June at Alto Cielo

We have just had a wonderful 2 week holiday at Villa Alto Cielo. First off the information provided before our arrival was excellent - local knowledge in Le Marche is essential as this is not a tourist mecca which is part of its charm. The villa’s location overseeing a patchwork of fields with the backdrop of the Sibilini mountains is the highlight. Last 2 weeks in June felt like we were in a heatwave so the best time to sit and gaze at the view was first thing in the morning after a swim. Whenever we stay at villas we try and imagine the decisions made in its development. The house itself is perfect for families looking for peace, quiet away from neighbours. The decor reflects that this is Will & Bettina’s home as does the extensive library available to peruse. For those who cannot live without social media - the broadband works perfectly well in the library. There were lots of towels available and the electric fans made the hot nights a little more comfortable. Take advantage of opening the screened windows as mosquitos don’t miss an opportunity to do their mischief. Outside the covered veranda is perfectly designed for some welcome shade in the day and sitting outside to dine, read and chill in the evening. The kitchen is a lovely size for cooking and when it gets too dark playing cards in the evening. The new BBQ is a welcome addition (and is positioned perfectly for alfresco dining) and the sausages, steaks and chicken purchased from Oasi in Tolentino were delicious. The pizza oven was used once and we managed some creditable pizzas - as indicated the oven is large and does take a while to heat up. The filter coffee machine was put to good use - but we could not find filters in any of the shops (either find some at home or improvise with kitchen towel). The wildlife is interesting: of note were the Swifts who would swoop in and take a drink whilst you swim, the fireflies (first time I have seen them) and a hare came visiting. Sunflowers are out and there has been lots of agricultural activity - mostly cutting and harvesting but nothing intrusive. Do not be alarmed by the occasional hornet who comes exploring but is completely docile (nothing like the wasps in the UK) and the little scorpions who are quite happy to avoid you. Sarnano is definitely worth visit and we managed a 5 course agriturismo experience. Don’t expect anyone to speak English but you an get along with little Italian.

Beautiful rural property Very well equipped with a fantastic pool and gorgeous views.

We had a fantastic week at this very well appointed villa. 3 good bedrooms with beautiful kitchen diner, and spacious lounge. The swimming pool is fantastic and the views are outstanding. The villa is about 10 mins drive to nearest restaurant We used the BBQ on several occasions cooking the excellent pork & beef from the local butchers washed down with a glass or two of wine from Le Marche. The only slight downside which nobody can do anything about are the tiger mosquitos affecting Italy and the Med, Bring some repellent and cover up when possible. We highly recommend this villa for a comfortable relaxing holiday in Le Marche.

Lovely Villa, great location

When it comes to value for money you won't get better than Villa Alto Cielo. The house is a credit to Bettina and Will. Very comfortable, Spotless, modern with all you need for the perfect vacation. The pool area is excellent with plenty of loungers and a lovely little shaded pergola for when the sun gets too hot. The outside area is perfect for meals, barbecues and a late evening glass of wine with the fireflies. The scenery is stunning, the pictures don't come close to the real thing. The closest restaurant is in Camporontondo, Stefano is a lovely host with good english, great food. There are several foodie restaurants in the house book supplied, visit as many as you can, none will disappoint. We will return again, a thoroughly enjoyable holiday.

A beautiful villa with views to match

Having just returned from a most enjoyable stay at the villa we were all really impressed with the property, it's grounds and of course the views. The downstairs and upstairs are all excellent size rooms and the kitchen is very well equipped which really helps when in the main self catering. The pool was most welcome on hot days and has plenty of room around it for relaxing without getting splashed ! The grounds were most impressive and it was lovely to sit on the terrace with a glass of wine and admire the view (just remember the mosquito spray). On the whole a fantastic place for appreciating nature and the peace and quiet even with two teenage boys in tow ! A car is a must of course and there are nice places to visit whether you want a hill top village, a lake to swim in or a beach. Although it was at times quite difficult to make the effort to leave the villa !! All information from the owners was accurate and helpful, it would be nice maybe to have a visitors book at the villa and also a good map of the area. Would recommend to family and friends without a doubt.

/Steen Christensen - ophold i uge 29 - 2016

" Bellissimo "

The last review says it all......Stunning Property which is really home from home! Great sized house for larger groups, especially the kichen/dining area. Beautifully laid out and furnished to a very high standard. The view as soon as you step out from the kitchen was stunning - the pool area was magnificent too. The grapes from the tree were the best we've ever tasted - especially paired with the local cheeses. The owners were very helpful and informative from the beginning and the driving instructions were spot on and easy to follow. Thanks again for letting us stay in your beautiful home and we will definately return with friends in the future to show it off! J & N England.

Fantastic, beautiful property with stunning views

What a perfect property. The villa is amazing and because is owned, all the rooms are really individual with their own touches and comforts. The kitchen is really well thought through and there is everything you'd need to self cater. The views are absolutely amazing too, who needs a telly when you can watch the mountains change minute by minute. The owners Will and Bettina could not have been more helpful. There is a great welcome pack which tells you everything you need to know, directions there, eating out recommendations, even how to but wine from the local farmer! There is a pizza oven there too, which we tried and I think succeeded at, well worth a go for the authentic experience. The whole place is so quiet, it really is somewhere you can go to relax without a care in the world. I'd definitely go back and I'm just sad I don't own it myself!

Just Perfect, Simply, Just Perfect

Can we just say, thank you for enabling us to have a fantastic holiday. Your Villa is lovely, brilliant attention to detail, simplistic yet sophisticated. We just loved the whole aspect of the property, garden, pool and view and so much so sort of want to say, “if you ever want to sell then can we have first refusal”, if that makes sense. Your guide was excellent and very useful, we managed 9 out of the top 10 things to do, each giving us remaining memories. The layout, décor, facilities and feel were all perfect and simple things like the recipe books (some of which we actually have here in Hampshire) which enabled us to actually cook Italian food in Italy just put a certain “tocco finale” on the experience. Roberto is lovely, as is his son and the wine sets the tone for where you are. Whilst it might not win “awards” just to be able to have the ability to go and buy from him, sit on your veranda when the sun has set, accompanies by the chorus of crickets gave us yet more “momenti magici” Simply – Thank You Love, Adam, Katrine, Emily, Isobel, Edward & Rosemary (Katrine’s Mum)

Perfect hillside retreat

What a fantastic place. The villa is even bigger than it looks from the photos and everything inside, the garden outside and the pool are in tip top condition, and the kitchen is incredibly well equipped. The views across the hills , especially from the main bedroom and the pool are really spectacular. If you can bear to leave, the surrounding area has so many pretty perfectly restored mediaeval villages, the Sibillini national park, great restaurants and wine cellars (book a tour at Fattoria Forano). Will and Bettina were great in providing lots of helpful information and replied to any queries really quickly. All in all a perfect break.

We were robbed in broad daylight—a nightmare

We absolutely do not recommend this rental. Our stay was a complete disaster. First of all, we were victims of a burglary in broad daylight while our child was sleeping in their room. The fence is not secured, anyone can enter. It was a terrifying experience that completely ruined our vacation. As if that wasn’t enough, the pool pump was broken, making it impossible to swim in the sweltering 40°C heat. Worse the maintenance company said it is safe to go, but measuring the PH and Cl, values were not even in the range on the measuring tool !! With no air conditioning in the house, the atmosphere became unbearable. In summary, this stay was an absolute nightmare spending over 5.000 € for 3 days on horror and 4 days on the road. Avoid this place at all costs! It is not safe.

Consiglio vivamente.

About the host

Hosted by Bettina Jeppesen

Host profile image
We, Will & Bettina, are an English/Danish couple who met in Le Marche over twenty five years ago when working as campsite reps by the coast. We have put everything we love about Italy and Le Marche into a smart, very liveable holiday home that is perfect for entertaining and relaxing. We visit the house several times a year but have it carefully managed during rental periods. You will see our love of film, music and fashion displayed on the villa's walls.

Why they chose this property

For us it was all about "Location, location, location" and Alto Cielo was the most beautiful spot we had seen in over three years of house hunting in Le Marche and Puglia. There was even a handy gap in the trees at the bottom of the land where we could build a pool with a rather splendid view!

The villa offers a high degree of privacy yet is surrounded by the daily life of rural Italy.

When we get to the villa we love to sit in the garden with a glass of Verdicchio and take in the views and the tranquility. Every time we say "We never want to leave"!

What makes this property unique

We love to come to the property either on our own or with friends and family and just do our own thing. The stresses of city life immediately melt away.

We love the fact that we have the villa and pool all to ourselves and can do whatever we want, when we want! The house has generous spaces and is very "liveable"!

The kitchen and shaded terrace are built with hospitality in mind but excellent restaurants are just a short drive away.
