About this property

Beachside house with pool in Galleon Beach in beautiful English Harbour

Byam house nestles in a beautiful hillside just above the white sands of Galleon Beach. There are four separate and very private bedrooms each with its own shower room. There are two double bedrooms featuring their own private balconies with stunning views across the bay towards the caribbean sea. All bedrooms have A/C, ceiling fans and mosquito nets over the beds. Tucked beneath the house there is a laundry room with a large capacity washing machine.
Whilst the house is comfortable and private it is not in the modern glass box idiom it is a traditional Caribbean house built to take advantage of the site. I tried to get every room facing the sea. . Near enough to hear the sea lapping on the beach but far enough away to be private . The kitchen opens onto the covered terrace where there is a large dining table and a sitting area .The kitchen also opens onto the garden at the rear so there is always a cool breeze blowing through the house. For those preferring to shelter from the sun indoors, there is a comfortable sitting room that has views over the bay.
The house has its own swimming pool surrounded by a large area of decking and sun beds. The two twin rooms have large french windows that open on to the decking beside the pool. The garden at the front of the house leads down to the unspoilt sand of Galleon beach-and the warm Caribbean Sea .We have a private sun shade rondavel on the beach There are beach chairs and there is a kayak which is kept at the house..

Just across the crystal clear blue waters of English harbour sits the historic Nelson's Dockyard which is as rich in naval history as it is in local culture, food and hospitality. You can discover the forts and cannons that once protected the harbour, and you can't fail to spot the odd anchor still resting in the very spot where it was once laid down by Nelson's fleet. The dockyard itself is a triumph of restoration, incorporating local shops, bars and restaurants, which blend beautifully into the Georgian elegance and grandeur of one of the most historically important and prestigious dockyards in the world.

The unbeatable location and surroundings of English Harbour mean that the elegance of Byam house, with it's stunning verandah, pool and balconies, is only the beginning....

Delayed charm

Perfect location! Literally steps from the ocean. The view is great and the porch and pool deck get the trade winds to cool you off. Wonderful! The down side is the Loose Cannon beach bar. Great food, but the Euro techno-pop music during the day could be annoying. We could not figure out why the bar has a live saxophone player to torture the beach; he plays lots of notes and a few are the right ones. But unique! The house was clean but the poor thing has seen some years and has not seen an update for a while and could use one. We quickly grew to love it tho for its Caribbean charm. The kitchen has great flow thru ventilation for both the breeze and the bullfinches who help out with breakfast prep. The pool is deep and the large porch is fantastic. The house is convenient to Nelson’s, hiking trails to Shirley Heights and the restaurants at the marina. Groceries at Covent. We always had turtles and spotted eagle rays to swim with and occasionally huge shoals of ? Goggle eyes? It is the location of this house that sells it. I cant think of a better location. Awesome. Nothing but good memories!

December Trip

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay which was for business and pleasure. The beach access was perfect and nice to have a lunch spot so close. The house was kept spotlessly clean by Roma ... such a lovely woman that I wish we could have brought home with us.

Fantastic Stay

Perfect accommodations for our family of six. Perfectly situated for additional family anchored off shore. Enjoyed several meals at adjacent Loose Cannon beach club and the boat taxi over to Nelson’s Dockyard. Helpful to have an auto to reach the many restaurants and pubs in the area. Our housekeeper Roma was quite accommodating and helpful. Hope to return soon!

Perfect house across from the beach

The house was perfect for the 3 small families that occupied it for the week. There is plenty of room for everyone to either gather together or have their own private space. The pool overlooking the bay is beautiful. Highly recommended for a gathering of family or friends.

Stay for the location whilst on your Antigua vacation!!!!!

This house is a 1 minute stroll downhill to Galleon Beach. My family and I snorkeled, swam, and kayaked here. Everyday we saw sting Ray's, sea turtles, and various other colorful fish. There is also a private beach hut with chairs and a palapa for guests of Byam house which was a plus. At night the beach was perfect to walk down and star gaze. It's also a close 8 10 minute drive into Nelson's dockyard. The overall layout of the house was amazing with great views of english harbour and perfectly private, clean, and spacious rooms. The house keeper Miriam absolutely made our stay so much more enjoyable. She recommended things to do and any other island info we needed. Our family of 7 really enjoyed our conversations with her daily. pigeon beach is an amazing 10 minute drive away with really calm waters perfect for floating, families, and picnics with palapas. Also Jim was quickly responsive to any questions I had and I had alot. Our wifi went out twice and it was fixed within the hour. When your here you want wont wifi very much anyways. The views at anytime time of day will make you feel completely removed from your life back at home. This was a delightful vacation and we could not have asked for a better location.

Great cottage style beach house!

We recently returned from our stay at Byam House. There were 8 of us & we had a wonderful time! We loved the location, only a 2 minute walk to the beach. The view from the pool & upper deck was breathtaking! We loved watching the sailboats, catamarans & yachts anchored at Galleon Beach or coming & going from Nelson Dockyard. All the bedrooms had a beautiful view of the beach. The kitchen was well equipped. The housekeeper, Miriam was a real gem. Just a lovely lady. She offered advice when asked about restaurants, where to get groceries & general knowledge about the island. We used the free water taxi frequently to go to Nelson Dockyard. What a great service! Be sure to visit Shirley Heights. We hiked up there in the day time to check out the view. Don't forget your camera. The view from up there is amazing! Also the barbeque & entertainment on Sunday nights there is a lot of fun. The sunset should not be missed. Our favourite beach bar, The Cheeky Marlin has great strawberry daiquiris. Jim Prentice was wonderful to deal with. He promptly answered all of my questions. I would highly recommend this house.

Great location for a get together in the sun

Arriving at Byam House after a long journey was an absolute joy. We have stayed here before two years previously and had looked forward to returning since booking our flights six months ago. There have been several improvements since our last visit, most notably a new kitchen. This room leads directly onto the large verandah where we took our meals and is one of the best features of the house with it's stunning views. Catering for eight people was made easy by the layout and we ate most of our meals at the house despite the number of good restaurants nearby. The bedrooms were spotlessy clean and allowed all staying privacy and comfort as the outlook from them was facing the sea. I must mention Miriam our maid who came daily and from whom nothing was too much trouble, she is delightful. This was a wonderful holiday much enjoyed by all our party, and we would not hesitate to return. As a bonus, very few mosquitos!

A little bit of paradise

If you want an away from it all holiday with easy access to all that is happening in English Harbour this really is the place to be! We were a little worried that going out of season, we wouldn't have had things to do. We shouldn't have worried as not only was there still plenty to do, there were no crowds to spoil it all. The house is literally a hop, skip and jump to the most beautiful quiet beach. We loved Miriam the Housekeeper, and she pointed us to some great places to eat. The kitchen was a little tired, but I understand that it was to be replaced immediately after our visit. The whole Island is easily accessible from this base, and I would definitely return to Byam House if back in Antigua

Beautiful beach-front holiday

I'd wondered about this house for years then saw it on VRBO. It's a cracking traditional Caribbean style house just steps from the beach with it's own Tiki umbrella & a super pool. Location is fabulous for Galleon Bay with it's great beach bar and resident turtles in the water. The ferry-taxi goes to Nelson's Dockyard several times an hour from the pontoon outside where you can walk to everything you need. We were a group of adults who came to enjoy the house, beach, dockyard, harbour and daily hikes up to Shirley Heights. Roma the lovely housekeeper always looked after us with a big smile every day, doing the chores that we don't want to do on holiday. Beds are super comfy and you can never tire of the view from the veranda. Very special place and would definitely love to come back.

Lovely location

Our second time to Antigua and wanted to stay near English Harbour. Location was great. Property was clean and owner/housekeeper Roma were both very helpful. Felt, however, that the description of property needs updating... the 4 bedrooms at villa are all separate (ie outside) to the small lounge/kitchen so while property would be great for 4 separate couples it may not suit a family with children. Another example is that the beach-hut shown isnt for the villa (in fact its the security hut for nearby Galleon Beach club resort). Had some trouble finding villa from description of location too. Owner was however really responsive for every question and we had lovely time in Antigua.

Lovely villa , tranquil oasis surrounded by wonderful scenery

Lovely villa, right next to the beach. Such a warm welcome from Miriam the housekeeper who we all took to our hearts. The rooms were great and the air conditioning very welcome - would recommend taking mosquito repellent as they were in numbers whilst we were there in August. Loved Trappas and Sweet T’s and Covent Garden supermarket was a short drive away with everything we needed. Snorkelling is good from the beach and all the locals were very friendly.

We couldn't be more pleased with our stay at bayam house. Communication was superb, the house was well designed giving all couples their own space with a nice shared space. Kitchen is well stocked and BBQ worked perfectly. Beach is a few steps away and is lovely. Turtles, barracuda, and other fish spotted. Water taxi comes on the hour. Antiguans are so friendly and helpful. A great week spent there. And Miriam the house keeper is a delight.

Superb property. Spacious with excellent views over the bay

Our stay at Byam House has been everything we wanted from a Caribbean get away. The layout of the house is great for people holidaying as a group. Everything you need is here and Miriam is an absolute treasure providing advice on everything local. The English Harbour area is great and we particularly liked Nelson's Dockyard.

A true "home away"!

This was, by far, the best tropical vacation getaway. The Byam House is absolutely gorgeous, with just the right amount of elegance and still maintaining a lot of charm and Caribbean feel. Now that we are back home, I can't get that incredible place with it's perfect location out of my head. We felt very at home and enjoyed the presence of Miriam, the housekeeper, who felt like family. The island itself has endless exploring opportunities and the islanders are warm and friendly, unlike some other islands. I wish I had part ownership of the home, I want to keep returning to it.

Dream accomodation and location

Have just returned from a wonderful weeks family holiday to Antigua. 6 of us stayed in Byam house and we never felt on top of one another. The house is something I couldn't even dream up from my desk back in the UK, fully equipped and super clean (I would know I've work in 7 star service). The property immediately felt like home and with in hours the stress I carried from the UK seeped away as I swam in the warm water from the beach at the bottom of the driveway. Loved the island of Antigua and the tourist guides left around the house helped us plan which beach to drink our rum on the next day :) Can not wait to go back to the island and there will be only one place I will stay!

Superb Location, Very well maintained.

I visited Byam House During Antigua Sailing week and was so impressed I vowed to take my family there in the UK winter. We were not disappointed. we had a wonderful time. The House was well furnished and equipped -very comfortable-in very good condition. and we were looked after so well by Miriam the house keeper. The 4 Bedrooms were air conditioned-had mossy nets all round the beds- and ceiling fans . The veranda with its views was the center of activity. Getting about was easy by water taxi in daylight and road taxi by night, easily arranged by the reception at the Beach Club Resort. We walked the Shirley hts Trails, visited Jolly Hbr- Pigeon Beach- Willoughby bay and dinned in several good local restaurants. Thanks very much- A great Success Byam house is in the best Spot on the Island. Our intention is to return

Fun in the Sun

The idyllic location brought us back to Byam House for the 3rd time in February. We were delighted to find so many improvements to the house. The new nets over the beds are not only practical but make the newly refurbished bedrooms look stunning. It is just a 30 metre stagger to the beach where swimming and turtle spotting provided our entertainment.

Best location in paradise

Arrived hot and tired from the airport but spirits soared on seeing the pool and all the rooms opening up to breezy sea views. Air conditioning units worked well and surprisingly quietly but the french windows gave plenty of natural air to the bedrooms. Mozzi nets around the beds meant that doors could be left open at night. We found no mozzies (couldnt understand where they'd gone), just a bit of ankle attack in the evenings from noseeums. Highlight of the house for us was the veranda with it's big dining table and separate comfortable seating area - perfect for long evenings of carousing, and the views - this really is the best location in paradise. We walked early mornings around the clifftops and up to Shirley Heights and found some stunning trails, cooling off swimming from the private beach. Loads of restaurants available nearby ranging from economy to grand either a short taxi ride or take the water taxi across to English Harbour. We'll be going back as soon as we can.

Our wedding venue

We are planning our next trip to Antigua and were surprised by the adverse comments of another resident. January 2015 we stayed at Byam House and were married at the local Church and held a small reception at the House and later on the private beach. It was a dream! We love the house and it's amazing location. The house is a spotless home, comfortable and full of character and charm, the views to die for. Our room comfortable, with plenty of towels, All our extra needs were looked after by Miriam, a wonderful local lady , to whom nothing was too much trouble

Wonderful house in a stunning location

We have just returned from lovely Byam House In English Harbour. Any concerns we had from reading one previous poor review, proved to be completely unfounded. The house was beautifully and comfortably furnished. There were new curtains in the bedrooms, the beds were comfortable and the bed linen was pristine white cotton. The sitting room was delightful, but any time at the house, we spent on the veranda (the chairs too were new) where we ate and admired the stunning views of the beach and bay. The kitchen was well equipped and the two new large fridges/freezers were more than ample for our needs. There was also a brand new BBQ and Wi-Fi router. The house was kept scrupulously clean by lovely Miriam's daily visits. The swimming pool was ideal for a cooling dip after walking around the headland or up to Shirley Heights, and the poolside shower handy for rinsing after daily sea swims. The free water taxi (seasonal) was a welcome surprise which gave easy access to Nelson's Dockyard and many bars and restaurants. The owners couldn't have been more helpful and patient in answering all our queries and offered lots of tips for maximising the enjoyment of our holiday. We very much hope to return to Byam House in the near future.

A beautiful house in a stunning location

Byam House is surrounded by lush tropical plants which affords it great privacy whilst at the same time being literally a stones throw from the most idyllic beach. The verandah that leads from the kitchen and sitting room overlooks the swimming pool, the bay and up to one side Shirley Heights. Breakfasts on the verandah are bliss. We enjoyed it so much that we tended to eat in most of the time! The pool is perfect for cooling off & is surrounded by a beautiful decked area. The bedrooms all look out towards the bay, the two on the upper level having their own balconies and superior views, the master bedroom in particular is spacious and comfortable. Miriam the housekeep is an absolute gem as well as a fountain of knowledge about local people and produce. We are greatly looking forward to returning one day, to enjoy the early morning walks up to Shirley Heights, to pick our own pawpaw and tamarinds and to swim in the safest of bays.
