About this property

Large Family Cottage With Hot Tub, Ideally Located For Activities. Pet Friendly.

The East Wing at Rufford Park Lodge is a large self-catering cottage that accommodates up to ten adults and an infant in peaceful and relaxing surroundings, with a secluded courtyard featuring a private hot tub.

You will find many activities, attractions, historic buildings, museums and country parks all within easy access, or you can relax, unwind and enjoy the benefits of a soak in the hot tub under the sun or stars while spending quality time with friends or family.

The stylish interior combines original features with modern comforts, enabling our guests to experience a part of the local history without compromising on facilities.

Our dining room, lounge and courtyard all have seating for ten separately.

We appeal to many different groups including families, groups of couples, reunions, walkers, ramblers, cyclists, thrill seekers and golfers, and have often had tennis, bowls and motor sports teams from abroad attending local tournaments. We also provide accommodation during the week for business people and professionals working in the area.

The accommodation comprises a double en-suite bedroom on the ground floor, and two double bedrooms, two twin bedrooms and two bathrooms on the first floor. One bathroom has a modern walk-in shower and the other has a double jacuzzi/whirlpool bath and a two-seater steam-shower enclosure.

The kitchen has a range cooker, microwave oven and dishwasher plus a utility area with a washing machine, tumble dryer and a tall American style fridge-freezer providing ample storage during your stay.

There are two reception rooms on the ground floor - a dining room with an extendable oak table that seats up to ten people; and a lounge with purpose made seven seater corner arrangement and separate three seater, a Sony 42" Flat Screen TV with surround sound, and Sky Q HD with catch-up and streaming services via the WiFi. Included in our package is Netflix, Prime, Paramount, Sky Sports and Sky Cinema. Our Sky Superfast Fibre Broadband provides WiFi throughout the property via a main router and two seamless extenders for your convenience.

The dining room has French doors that open out onto decking which provides a comfortable seating area in the enclosed but ample courtyard. There is a 5/6 seater premium hot tub in one corner which is continuously heated and exclusively for your use during your stay. It is serviced by a local professional company and refreshed between each booking ensuring it is in pristine condition on your arrival.

We recommend that you bring your own beach towels and/or bath robes for use with the hot tub as it is not practicable for us to provide these. Hand towels and bath sheets are of course provided for each guest.

Rufford Park Lodge is situated in what used to be the grounds of Rufford Abbey, which is a short drive or twenty minute walk away, accessible via the private road that runs past the cottage.

Rufford Golf and Country Club is accessible from the same road.

The nearest pub is Rose Cottage which is also walking distance and is on the Rufford Road junction with the A614, opposite the entrance to Rufford Abbey.

Old Ollerton is a short drive or cab ride away and has an old mill open to the public with one of the best tea rooms around, and is home to a number of village pubs. Try the White Hart for great value Samuel Smiths and village atmosphere, along with the Bella Vita Italian restaurant with its riverside garden bar.

New Ollerton is home to a number of takeaways and also supermarkets including Tesco which also has the cheapest petrol. You will also find everything else you need from chemists to cash points. Our nearest supermarket is now a Co-op in Bilsthorpe and under five minutes away by car, with ample parking and open until 10 pm every day.

Edwinstowe is well worth a night out as it has a number of pubs including Forest Lodge which serves excellent traditional food, and the recently renovated Royal Oak. For those special occasions try Launays but remember to book on a Friday and Saturday to avoid disappointment.

During the day you will also find Robin Hood's Major Oak tree which is a short walk from the Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre and nearby Art and Crafts Centre, which is another favourite of ours combining workshops, gift shops, galleries and another excellent tea room under a glass atrium.

For activities you are spoiled for choice. In addition to Rufford Abbey Country Park and Mill, we are also close to Sherwood Pines, Clumber Park and Thoresby Park and Hall. The Adrenalin Jungle is on our doorstep for everything from Archery to Zorbing, and Lockwell Hill for two and four wheel fans. Go-ape is also close by, as are Sherwood Forest Activity Centre, The Mill Adventure Base, White Post Farm and Robin Hoods Wheelgate Park which is a 30 acre all-weather family theme and water park.

There are many walking, cycling and MTB trails in the area including the Southwell Trail where you will also find the racecourse and many country pubs and inns such as the Saracens Head. For locomotive fans, The Final Whistle is a must visit!

Fantastic Reunion Getaway Spot

The East Wink near Rufford Park Lodge was fantastic. Very clean and comfortable place with everything we needed for a long weekend reunion. Indoor and outdoor spaces (including large hot tub) for socializing. Well supplied kitchen and a great table for dining. Spacious, versatile rooms are all very good accommodations. Everyone what quite happy. Derek was very accommodating and helpful letting us check in a bit early and making sure we had everything we needed. Would definitely stay here again!

A nice break for a few days.

We had a really nice little break as a family, but there were a few things that were a little disappointing given the fact the house appeared on paper to be high end. We arrived with excited kids to find the hot tub was not switched on, so this took 24 hours to heat. A real shame when you only have a short break. There were no complimentary logs for the log burner as promised, and only one bin liner for the bins. So first thing to do was a shop! There were caddies for tea, coffee, sugar, salt and pepper on display but all were empty. The rooms were adequate, but the double beds were not long enough for an adult man to sleep comfortably due to the footers on them and the mattresses weren’t overly comfortable. Overall, the place is nice but with some more thoughtful touches it could be lovely.

Lovely place, some updating required

This is a beautiful property with new windows to maintain warmth, set in beautiful countryside. The spacious property is well able to cope with the 10 people it caters for. Cosy and spacious with some attractive features. The dishwasher is not big enough, but washer and dryer are welcome additions. Plenty of cooking utensils, tableware, cutlery and glasses. Supplied towels were plentiful and plush. Bedding and mattresses need an upgrade. Unfortunately some damp in places. Nice hot tub.

Lovely location

Ticked all the boxes. The jacuzzi was lovely and clean seating 5 max. (the photos made it look bigger) The best bit was the location - walkable to Rufford Abbey Park and a gorgeous eating place - Rose Cottage... also driveable to other tourist attractions such as Sherwood Forest, Clumber Park and surrounding area.

About the host

We love exploring the countryside and discovering the places that often get overlooked. Over the twelve plus years we have been enjoying this area we have built up a lot of local knowledge, so whatever your reason for staying here you can be sure to make the most of your time with our guides to all the local attractions, parks, historic buildings and activities. If you are looking for something specific just let us know!

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with this property at first site. So much so that we brushed aside the amount of work that would be required to turn it into accommodation suitable for the demands of modern holidaymakers. It took the best part of two years to make the necessary alterations, and repairs and upgrades are a continual and ongoing process, with many more improvements planned for the future.

Recent improvements include new solid timber windows, bays and French doors with trickle vents to enhance ventilation, and a new American Fridge-Freezer. The broadband has been upgraded to Sky Superfast Fibre and WiFi is available throughout the property and courtyard via two seamless extenders.

What makes this property unique

Ideally located for so many different experiences, and we are discovering new ones ourselves every time we visit. The peaceful location makes it perfect as a retreat and to spend time with family and friends - chatting, dining and a good DVD or two.

Our dining room and living room both have seating for ten people and we also have outdoor furniture with seating for ten in our private courtyard which is illuminated at night by low voltage post lights leading to the hot tub where you can soak away the stresses and strains under the sun or stars.

If you do manage to summon up the energy for anything else then there are many places of natural beauty within easy reach, plenty of tea rooms, pubs and restaurants, and activities from A-Z provided by a choice of nearby activity centres, suitable for all age groups.

Newark, Nottingham and Mansfield are all around 20 minutes drive away and we have many attractions on our doorstep. We are in walking distance of Rufford Abbey Country Park and Rose Cottage bar and restaurant. Old Ollerton is 10 minutes drive and is a traditional village with riverside dining courtesy of Bella Vita Italian restaurant, the Hop Pole Inn, White Hart pub, and the oldest working water mill in Nottinghamshire which also doubles as a very fine tea room. New Ollerton has supermarkets, fabulous takeaways (including some of the best fish and chip bars we have tried anywhere), ATM's, pharmacies and more.

Edwinstowe is also around 10 minutes drive and home to the Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre and Art and Crafts Centre, along with many great restaurants, pubs, bistros and bars.

For parks you have a choice of Rufford Abbey Country Park, Thoresby Manor, Sherwood Pines and Clumber Park. Sherwood Pines has many trails for cycling, organised activities and Go-Ape.

You will also find fishing lakes, golf clubs, horse riding, pony trecking, clay pigeon shooting, a theme and water park and just about anything else you could want to make it your perfect stay.
