This property is a typical Madeiran country house that has been completely and faithfully renovated. This picturesque house is very comfortable, spread over three levels, with 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, 1 spacious living/dining room and a small, restored wine cellar. We can boast a fully equipped rustic, yet very modern kitchen equipped with stove, oven, washing machine, kettle, toaster and fridge, plus a large kitchen table for everyday meals. You will enjoy a typical “Espetada” (even in rainy days) with the cosy indoor BBQ. On the lower ground floor there is also a garage for two cars.
You can also find a dining room with a unique handmade dining table and a cosy living room with satellite & cable TV channels and also a DVD player and a sound system ready for you to enjoy your favourite movies. Our Internet access service has a Wi-Fi/Wireless system that allows wireless access to the Internet anywhere in the house, in a simple and convenient way. On the first floor’s two guest bedrooms, fully equipped with sheets and blankets, and you can also ask for a baby cot (free of charge).


The main large lounge opens onto a sunny terrace, ideal to sit out with a coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening and simply enjoy the serenity of the place.
If you're travelling in the summer don't forget to try our tasty grapes, selected from the grape varieties planted in Madeira, and enjoy our unique and irresistible passion fruit.

Home From Home

Perfect for just the two of us. Tastefully decorated and very roomy. Off the beaten tourist track which suited us down to the ground. Another couple staying with us, though, would've presented bathroom difficulties. Steep flight of stairs to bedrooms could be tricky for anyone with mobility problems. We'd definitely consider going back!

Lovely traditional madeiran house

Our stay in Madeira was perfect as we were lucky enough to stay in this beautiful house. It is very clean ,spacious,light and quiet. You will need a car to get about but very easy to navigate your way around the island from this location .Has a double garage to keep the car safely away at night even though every area we went seemed safe and the people lovely .The owners were very helpful on ideas of places to go and when we had a problem with a exterior door not shutting they got to the cottage quickly to sort it out for us . We would highly recommended this property

Very nice house, accurate description, fully equipped, clean, large terrace, garage, friendly and informative hosts, welcome pack, in-house BBQ, cosy dining room and table. Attention point: chimney needs cleaning, ash particles drop down on stove.

Good house but not geared up for poor weather.

Good spacious house but as open plan the wind whistled down the chimney in the kitchen and blew through the whole house. Rain also leaked through the kitchen roof. Very little in the way of heating. Had to wear a fleece for fist two days. Much better in improved weather.

Sehr sympathische Vermieter, sehr schönes Haus

Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Für zwei Personen ist das Haus großzügig bemessen. Gemütlich und mit Geschmack eingerichtet. Sehr guter Startpunkt für unsere Exkursionen vom Bergwandern bis zum Whale Watching. Alles prima!! Wir kommen gerne wieder.

Wonderful holiday location

We had a fantastic time staying at this house - it had everything we needed for our stay. Plenty of room, inside & out and the garage was useful to keep the car cool out of the sun! Ana was very helpful, right from reserving the house to collecting the keys at the end of our stay. Madeira is full of lovely places to visit and this is a great base to do it from.

Great place to stay and relax

This was an excellent property for us. It is nicely situated (back from the tourist coast but easily within reach) and very well appointed and maintained. And for those who haven't been to Madeira before (we hadn't) it is simply beautiful (and very friendly). The only slight downside for the property is the bedroom arrangement (the privacy thereof), which might be inconvenient for two couples.

The house was lovely and the views great. The house had everything we needed. The sun shone for us. We had an issue with a constantly barking dog next door, even through the night which seemed to be an issue throughout the Island. Overall good stay

Just Perfect!

What a wonderful place. Madeira is glorious, and this house was just perfect for our needs. A great location and easy to find following Ana's instructions. Ana and Rafael were waiting for us and showed us round the house which was very clean and comfortable. They also suggested various places to visit and advised us on local restaurants and shopping facilities. There were just the two of us, so we had plenty of space, and enjoyed the bottle of wine left for us.There is also a wine cellar which Ana and Rafael have kindly stocked with wine that you can purchase. The downstairs garage was a great bonus for the hire car - keeping it safe and cool, and to be honest that was the only entrance we used as the steps lead right up into the kitchen. The upstairs terrace was lovely to sit in the sunshine and have breakfast, lunch, dinner.....etc...!! The pictures give a very good description of the property, although it may be helpful to know that the second bedroom is reached via the first, the stairs are quite steep, and the bathroom is at the back of the kitchen. None of this caused us any problem, but it may be helpful to know. The location was generally quiet, other than music on the Saturday of our arrival, which did stop before midnight, and local dogs who enjoy barking to each other last thing at night, and first thing in the morning. A five minute drive gets you down to the seafront where there is a sandy beach, and several seafront restaurants. You can also get boats from here for fishing and whale/dolphin watching. It's easy to drive into Funchal - a multi story car park by the cable car station charges just over 5 Euros for the day. Do the round trip via two cable cars to the botanical gardens, but personally I'd give the Monte toboggans a miss as they only get you halfway back to your starting point, so you need a taxi to complete the journey. We'd certainly recommend this property, and Madeira as a whole, and hope to return in the future.

A wee slice of paradise

Ana and Rafael met us at the airport which was especially helpful of them.the easy drive to Calheta was magical with amazing views the whole way.the house is wonderful with lots of room and bright open areas. It was lovely to have the balcony are right outside the bedroom and the big patio out of the kitchen and sitting room doors. The local market and the big supermarket are very close with a few nice wee bars a close walk to the house. We were greeted in the house with a bottle of madeira wine (our first try) which was a lovely touch and couldn't have asked for a more perfect place to stay on our first of I'm sure many trips to madeira.

A great holiday home base

The Casa dos Serroes is a lovely holiday home to have as a Madeiran touring base. It's near the south west coast and benefits from the best of variable Madeiran weather on the day and, like any other place, is central to most parts of the island. There is a local shop and bar around the corner which has almost everything you will need. We loved the basement garage and the patio and got used to the downstairs bathroom. Recommended!

Lots of room; lots of character

Wonderful house with big kitchen, large dining area, living room, and bonus wine tasting room. All of this is very tastefully done and spotless clean! For the kids there is a large enclosed patio area and toys for them to ride on! Other useful features include wifi, large attached garage, and washing machine. We found this to be a great location for exploring the island. We would definitely stay here again if we make it back to Madeira. Ana and Rafael were also great--even meeting us at the airport car rental to lead us to the house!

Lovely House

The house was great, with everything we needed. Ana, the host, was lovely and accommodated us very last minute. Great house, well equipped and well situated

The Casa was extremely comfortable and had everything we needed. We loved the lovely sunny terraces, the view of the sea from the bedroom terrace and the proximity to both a well stocked, very friendly supermarket and a welcoming bar at the top of the hill.

Great home, beautiful island!

We had a very good time at this home near Calheta. It is very cosy and the terrass was perfect. We had a baby with us and that was no problem at all. He had a great time with the quad and motorcycle on the terrass and the babybed and chair were perfect too. The location of the house is very good, because it is the more Sunny side of the island. Thanks for the bottle of Madeira! We had a great time on this beautiful Island, even in Februar!

Great home, beautiful island!

We had a great time at this great home! It looks very cosy and we had everything we needed. We had a baby with us and he had a good bed and chair, and there were even a quad and a motorcycle for on the terrass. The Island itself is beautiful. And the location is perfect, because it is the most Sunny part of the Island. Even Sunny in Februar. Thanks for the bottle of Madeira.

Home from home.

We were welcomed by the owners on arrival and given a through tour of the house plus useful information about the local area and Madeira itself. This place feels like home from home. With 2 young children there was plenty of room inside and outside for them to play and just a short walk away there was a playground which they both enjoyed. The beach down in Calheta is only a short drive away - approx 5-10mins and although we were there during school holidays the beach was never packed. We also had a go on the floating water park which was great fun. There was a festival on in the village whilst we were there which was great fun. Delicious BBQ food, local Poncha and entertainment. This was our first visit to Madeira and we loved every minute. We hired a car and travelled around the island. Another hit with us and the kids were the sea pools which are great value and allow you to enjoy the sea in safety whilst appreciating the beautiful scenery. This is probably one of the best holidays we've had in a long time. Thank you so much Ana Nunes and Rafael Nunes for providing us with a beautiful place from which to enjoy this magnificent island.

Charming and excellent Madeiran House

We enjoyed a lovely holiday in Madeira and this was made all the more better by staying at Ana's lovely house. The house was ideal, with plenty of room, well maintained and very clean. It had everything we needed including the internet access for the kids and a small shop/café just down the road. After a long day travelling around the island it was very nice to come home to a comfortable and relaxing home.

Delightful, well maintained and equipped property,

We had a truly wonderful stay at this house. It provided all the amenities that we needed. The kitchen was spacious and had an indoor BBQ. It was lovely to have a large terrace where we could relax and enjoy a view of the sea. It was great to have TV and Internet provided. The house had a lot of character and was located well. We enjoyed early morning walks around the local area. The beach and a supermarket were a 5 minute drive away. Ana was very welcoming and the process of booking this accommodation was very smooth. When we arrived Ana and Rafael were waiting for us, they had provided a large bowl of fruit and a bottle of Madeira wine. This was a really nice touch. If there was to be a negative, the stairs to the bedrooms were quite steep, this may be difficult for older people or those with mobility problems and you have to walk through one bedroom to get to the other. However, it really was a dream stay in Casa Calheta. We would recommend it to anyone and hope to go back one day.

Contemporary yet traditional house

My wife and I stayed in this beautiful house for 1 week in January. It really was a home from home, with everything needed for the most comfortable stay. The rustic original features, exposed wooden beams and stonework complimented the flat screen tv, wireless internet and cable TV perfectly! The views from the large terrace were amazing and the herb garden well stocked. We had a great time at this house, Ana and her family met us on arrival and made us feel very welcome. Ana's husband even changed our flat tire whist we were being given a tour of the house. The local bar Michael's (5mins walk) is great for drinks and there are numerous restaurants in 5 mins drive. We would not hesitate to return to this lovely abode!

Perfect place for a perfect holiday !!!

Great house, got everything you need for a perfect holiday. The desciption of the house was absolutely accurate. Completely renovated and very clean. Big kitchen - very well equipped, tasteful furniture, big in-house garage, great terrace, etc. Quiet but central location- less than 10 mins drive to the only sandy beach of Madeira. Most places of Madeira can be reached within one hour drive. Very friendly and helpful landlord who even responds to special needs (we got all the infant equipment we needed). We can fully recommend this place for a stay on Madeira. Thank you very much for providing a perfect place for a perfect holiday!

fantastica e acolhedora

Gostei muito de ca estar.E uma residencia muito acolhedora ,confortavel e com muito caracter. Muito limpa e os simpaticos proprietarios ate nos deixaram um cesto de frutas fresquinhas ,o que nos deu muita boa impressao do lugar.E um sitio muito calmo e tem as facilidades a porta....um mini mercado a dois minutos com tudo o que se pode precisar e a cinco minutos de carro fica uma linda praia de areia onde as nossas crianças brincaram seguras e nos descontraimos. Gostamos imenso e esperamos ca voltar para o proximo ano,e vamos recomendar aos nossos amigos. O nosso muito obrigado por serem fieis a descriçao que fizeram para o site e superaram as nossas espectativas.
