We are a fairly active couple who have just returned from an excellent 2-week holiday staying in Casita Liebre, one of the 3 properties of Cortija Las Rosas.
We spent our time cycling, walking, touring, lying by the pool, drinking the very good, local (2 euro) wine and eating –self catering in our villa and dining out at local restaurants.
Throughout our stay we were made to feel very welcome by the owners, Gillian, Mary Lynne and Steve, who stay in the adjoining farmhouse and were on hand to provide help and advice whenever this was needed. Our impression from the moment we arrived until we left was that they really cared that we had a good holiday and enjoyed our stay there.
Casita Liebre itself had been recently sensitively restored and had 2 large bedrooms, each with adjoining bathrooms. The garden area surrounding the 3 casitas was carefully tended and maintained. The clear work and effort involved in this had paid off, as the gardens were lovely with flowers in bloom and fruit such as figs and pomegranates starting to ripen.
The pool was shared with the other 2 casitas, although for much of the time we had the area to ourselves. The villa was in a very quiet location with no roads or settlements nearby to disturb the peace.
Being situated in the hills, the local climate was slightly cooler than the surrounding lower lying region, however it was still comfortably warm at 25 – 30°C most days (early September). This made it a more suitable climate for cycling, although the roads around the villa have some x-rated hills, not least the one coming up from Iznajar, which hit 18% in some sections. In fact there is very little ‘flat’ cycling around, so fairly good fitness is required if you intend to hit the roads on one of Steve’s bikes. Steve is a cyclist himself and kindly took us out on a couple of local routes to show us what the area had to offer.
The nearest local village was only approx. 20 minutes’ walk from the villa, but in reality a car was essential for getting around. The villa was sited about 500 metres down an unmade track, quite steep in parts and good ground clearance on the car was useful.
The WiFi reception was a bit patchy, not problem for us or anyone else who may want a break from the interweb, but could be for those with teenage offspring.
In summary we really enjoyed our break at Cortija las Rosas and would be happy to recommend a stay to friends and relatives.
