Good time had by all!

Our Family Vacation with 6 kids age 10 and under and 4 adults had a great time! Everyone was happy with their sleeping arrangements (with lots of beds to choose from). The river was a great draw..kids and adults all went down every day. The house was well supplied and all concerns were handled swiftly. The manager of the property was easy to get hold of and responded quickly.

Labor Day Weekend

This property is amazing. The house can easily handle a large group. There were 14 of us. One of the bedrooms is a bit small so the 2 teenagers chose to sleep on couches but since we were only there for 3 nights it didn't pose a big problem. The deck is huge and the gazebo is wonderful. It overlooks the river and is a great place to read or just enjoy the sound of the river. Several of our party enjoyed fishing. Having the river right there is a plus. Lana was easy to communicate with and met our son promptly to go over the house amenities and leave the keys. The fruit bowl, snack and some more basket were nice special touches. Everyone in our party was impressed with the property and would return for another vacatrion.

Beautiful lodge and view

Overall we enjoyed our stay. Lana was helpful and easy to get in touch with. The river view and property is beautiful and the deck is amazing, especially when you have a large family or group. The kitchen had more than enough supplies/cutlery/cooking essentials that we needed to cook big meals everyday.

Amazing and Beautiful

This was by far an amazing place for a large family get away during Thanksgiving. There was enough space for everyone to spread out and the table was large enough for everyone to gather together. Lana was a great host and was available to answer any questions. The grounds are secluded and just absoutely beautiful. Although it was a bit chilly we were still able to get out and take pictures by the river and enjoy a campfire. Thank you Lana and we hope to return!!

Excellent Emergency Replacement for the Beach

Unique house with a lot of character. Beautiful views of the creek/river from the huge wrap around deck. Great "beach" area by the river for picnics and relaxing. Tubing on the creek was a lot of fun. We would definitely recommend this spot.

It was the best place to hold my husband's surprise 30th birthday celebration! It held our whole group so comfortably! The only downside was there were no towels provided and we were not told there would be no towels.

Amazing weekend!

We rented this home for my husband's birthday with several friends and had the best time! Lana was so helpful from the start and they were there to greet us and show us around and answered all of our questions. They had fresh fruit and snacks in the kitchen and fresh flowers in every bathroom. The house and the lot were unbelievable and we could have spent so much longer there. We definitely want to rent again!

Christmas family time

We had five families staying on the property. Most all were elderly adults. We felt the game room was very cold and there was only 2 TVs on the property. All in all, it was a fun and we enjoyed our family time together.

Fantastic Cabin!

We spent New Year’s Eve at this beautiful cabin. It is spacious, well appointed, has beautiful views and the property manager Lana is simply wonderful. This is the perfect place to spend time with a large group of family and friends. We plan to book again to experience summer in this amazing setting. Everything- from the welcome bowl filled with fruit and snacks, Christmas decorations throughout, wood for the fire pit down by the river, rooms galore, phenomenal master suites, a big beautiful well utensiled kitchen, fun game room, comfortable beds, gorgeous property- it’s a great place! Enjoy!!!

Great for a large group!

My high school friends and I planned a reunion here with our families and had a fantastic time! This is truly a log cabin deep in the mountains. Be prepared that you are about 10-30 minutes from the action so renting a car is a must to get around. But it is very easy to get to Asheville and all the nearby hiking spots. The lodge is comfortable and spacious, and the deck is huge! We traveled with 12 children, all 6 and under and they had a ton of fun in the creek and making smores at the fire pit by the river. We never felt cramped for space, and really enjoyed our time!

Mountain getaway

This is a great family rental. Very spacious, very clean, and lots to do. My only two suggestions are to let people know before they come that there are no towels available, we had to purchase towels at the local Walmart. Also the new fire pit isn’t as user-friendly as the old fire pit. We prefer the more natural looking fire pit where you can sit around and enjoy the fire and makes S’mores, etc

Great deck and location on river

We were a group of five families and we are used to vacationing together. My communication with Lana was terrific, and she was flexible with our group’s arrival time. The house is beautiful and striking when you arrive. We had a glorious time on the deck enjoying it morning, noon, and night. We tubed the little river. We drove the short distance to Black Mountain for shopping and eating and visiting some breweries. We hiked and biked. We went to Asheville. We even figured out how to use the special AGA Stove (Swedish brand) which Lana will describe for you on checking in. All the members of our party had fun! A few additional notes: The house was overall very clean, though dust and cobwebs were visible in some places. We had a little trouble figuring out where we were all going to sleep and we had to get creative with some bathroom use as well- for example, 2 bathrooms are within the master suite, which seems odd. We did figure it out, and there were plenty of sheets and blankets for our needs. One other thing we noticed is that a lot of bedrooms don’t have closets, which wasn’t and issue for us as we were just there for three nights. And the final gravel road and driveway were challenging for some of our vehicles which bottomed out or spun out. Overall, I’d say that this is a fun, special house and the star of the house is the deck! We enjoyed our stay very much. All the members of our party, including teens, enjoyed themselves!

Perfect vacation for large family

Our 3 generation, 15 person family stayed at River Ridge Lodge during a very hot and humid early July week that included several torrential downpours. We had 5 families with 6 tweens/teens; 7 adults mostly in our 50s; and my parents in their 80s. We are grateful for Lana the property manager, who helped make my parent's dream vacation a reality. The large lodge is situated on an immense, extremely private, heavily wooded, and hilly piece of land that is surrounded by a creek/river by 3 sides, just like the description states. There is a huge flat area down the hill and ridge next to the water where you can have a fire or pass a ball or look for rocks or take a stroll to look for the waterfall across the water. Toward the lodge is a modern, clean outdoor bathhouse and a couple of nice cabins. Inside the lodge there is a large kitchen and table, a sitting area, and a huge, finished basement that everyone in our family enjoyed. The furnishings and beds were comfortable although some dining chairs sagged (we thought it was funny and part of the experience). All of the bathrooms, bed linens and the kitchen were very clean. We did not see any cobwebs mentioned in another review, and, despite its location literally in the woods (and humid), we didn't see bugs in the house. You need to bring your own towels, soaps etc. There are 2 clothes washers and dryers and excellent air conditioning for hot days. We were able to use the brand new gas grill outside (thanks Lana!) and their wood for the firepit. Talk about super luxurious "glamping"! Sitting on the porch, we could sit under the trees (and stars at night), hear the sound of the rushing water, watch butterflies, do yoga, read books or whatever, and still have wifi if we wanted (which the teens did)! There are many stores nearby to get starter (dry) firewood, food and repellent. Because of the heavy rainfall, the hilly driveway was bumpy in a couple places despite the new gravel Lana had just put down and graded. For being just a few minutes from a highway and 20 minutes from Asheville, and yet in a very private and serene location (no highway sounds), we highly recommend this lodge for a family vacation.

A Birthday Party to Remember!

My siblings and I, along with our families, visited Rivers Ridge Lodge in March of 2012 to celebrate our mother's 70th birthday. It had been several years since all of us had been together in the same place at the same time! So not only did we have the complete fun of planning a surprise 70th birthday party for our mother, but we also were able to enjoy a wonderful family reunion! Much to our delight, the property was gorgeous and extremely spacious. The home was immaculately kept on the inside, and the outside was neatly manicured. Everything in the home was picturesque, and the stove was certainly a piece of conversation for all of us. (Even for those of us who don't like to cook!) But, I think the most amazing part of Rivers Ridge Lodge was the wrap-around deck built for large receptions. It also had a nice jacuzzi and lovely gazebo built onto the deck. The views from the top of the deck, overlooking the river were indescribably peaceful and inviting. It was a common sight during that weekend for all of us to be outside enjoying it. We loved the space and comfort of the deck, while listening to the cascading sounds of the river and songs of the leaves as the gentle breezes enveloped us into a lull of complete bliss! Needless to say, the surprise birthday party and family reunion was a huge success! It was amazing for our whole family to be together at one time, because we have such a large family! And equally as surprising, was how much room this place had - with all of our family members staying there, everyone had plenty of space and nothing ever felt crowded! Rivers Ridge Lodge is definitely a place to stay if you are planning a large gathering; however, I would also love to go back with just my husband! Not only is it spacious, but it's secluded enough that it would make an excellent get-a-way for anyone who just wants to escape the hectic life of work and responsibilities! It offers so much in the way of relaxation, that it's easy to forget that you also have opportunities to hike, fish, bike, or just take an easy stroll through all of the natural surroundings! Additionally, the owners were extremely wonderful throughout the whole experience. Had it not been for them being so accommodating, this experience could have been very different. Rivers Ridge Lodge is an extraordinary place, and I will certainly hold the precious memories of my mother's face as she realized what we had done for her birthday in my heart and mind forever!

Worth every dollar!

We loved our stay here for our annual "I Love Mommy" Mother/Daughter retreat. The home is beautifully situated in Old Fort. The views - breathtaking! Upon arrival, we were greeted by Lana and Chuck, who gave us a tour of the home and instructions on the stove, internet and hot tub. Both were absolutely awesome. Lana is the perfect hostess. From the day we confirmed the reservation until the day we checked out, she was there to answer any questions we had. She even gave us the name of a massage therapist who would personally come to the lodge and give our moms a massage. How cool is THAT?!? Lana's warm personality and beautiful spirit matched the warmth and beautiful spirit that is in the house. We wanted for nothing; everything worked as designed. Lana put a lot of thought and love into the house design. We especially appreciated the accessible ramp and bedroom/bathroom, as we have three moms that have a hard time getting around. The beds are ultra-comfortable. The Aga stove - OMG! It was perfect for our group of 26. We LOVE to cook, so the stove definitely came in handy for us. We had 12 moms, so the gorgeous dining room table worked perfectly for us. Unfortunately, it rained during our stay; however, the home was so beautiful, we didn't even care! We just wanted to stay in the house and enjoy the peaceful spirit that resided there. We did get out one day to visit Asheville. I highly recommend "Fired Up! Creative Lounge". We had a ball designing our own pottery project. It was relaxing, and the moms had a lot of fun creating their masterpieces. I also recommend 12 Bones bar-b-que restaurant. OMG-now that's Carolina bar-b-que at its best. We prefer the Arden location. Ordered a meal for 26 (to go), and it was delicious! There is so much to do and see in Old Fort/Black Mountain/Asheville. You will absolutely love it there! And then, to be able to come back to Rivers Ridge is the perfect end to your day. This was definitely THE BEST retreat location to date. I can't say enough about this property OR the owner. If you want to stay in a home with beautiful owners, professional owners and courteous owners, then Rivers Ridge Lodge is for you! Lana, thank you for making our stay so wonderful! We daughters demand perfection for our moms, and you helped to make that happen for us this year! We'll definitely be back!

Spacious riverside lodge for family gatherings

We rented this property over Thanksgiving week for both the holiday and to celebrate my mother’s 90th birthday. The large deck, firepit and river access were wonderful for our group, which spanned four generations, as were the pool room and two family room areas with flat screen TVs. Future renters should know that while the listing mentions 6 bathrooms in the main lodge along with the outside washouse-they are not all functional and equally accessible. Both the outside wash house (frozen pipes) and one upstairs bathroom (leaking toilet)were unuseable during our entire 5 day visit, and the most accessible main lodge bathroom is also the entry to one of the suites-so be careful! It was also irritating to arrive to unmade beds after having carted our own towels across the country. In general, the linens, extra blankets, pillows need to be refreshed-as the wear and tear was evident.

PITMAN FAMILY GETAWAY

Paid too much $$$ for beds not to be made up. No heat in front bedroom. Wi-Fi did not work. Spindles around deck should be checked. Found many loose ones & several missing. Kitchen ware should be purged of too much unnecessary stuff and frying pans replaced!!! No big salad bowl. Welcome was very special. Lana's added touches were appreciated. Fire Pit needs long handle poker to keep fire going. Fire pit was center of attention. Fishing was fun & challenging. Location is very convenient for visiting attractions. Beautiful location!!

River Ridge Ideal For Our Daughter's Wedding

We searched long and hard to find just the right location for our daughter's wedding. We needed a house large enough for the bridal party plus locations for a reception, dinner, and outdoor wedding. We found all those and more at River Ridge. Hosts Lana and Chuck were there to greet us and answer our questions. The lodge itself is beautiful, finished in a classy rustic style, with large rooms downstairs. The Aspen Room is ideal for the bridal couple with two bathrooms and a beautiful soaking tub. The Scuppernong Room is great for the parents of the bride and the Cherokee Room is beautifully furnished and has a sitting room with a bear rug and a skylight. Upstairs has several rooms with bunks that are perfect for all your extra guests. The basement is all about entertainment and includes a pool table. The kitchen is well furnished and includes an icemaker and a unique Swedish AGA oven. This oven has a couple of warming sections where we could keep our catered meal trays warm. The feature that probably sold us is the expansive deck overlooking Crooked Creek. The deck has several tables with chairs, a hot tub, and a gazebo. We had a rental company put up a tent on one end and used that for our wedding dinner. The ceremony took place down by the river in a beautiful natural setting. We constructed an arch that was decorated with flowers. Perfect! (Especially since the rain held off until the day after the ceremony. The property also features two bunkhouses, small buildings with a couple of beds. However, these bunkhouses have electricity and air conditioning. The bath house has a toilet and shower. We found a great restaurant in nearby Marion. Also, the town of Old Fort is very close and has a number of restaurants, a grocery store, and two breweries. To sum it up, our experience at River Ridge was wonderful. You'll be impressed with the beautiful lodge and the grounds.
