About this property

Beautiful cabin, two if you wish, on Pike Lake close to Grand Marais

Welcome to “The Cabins on Pike Lake" in Grand Marais. Voted the Best Midwestern Small Town by USA Today, and the Coolest Small Town by Budget Travel Magazine, Grand Marais has a lot to offer. We are delighted to host you in our two luxurious and comfortable cabins on beautiful Pike Lake. Thank you for considering us for your next vacation get-away.

The Cabins
When you stay with us, you have 2 options:
For groups of 4 or less, the Main Cabin is perfect. For more space and privacy, you can also rent guest cabin for an additional $125/night.
For groups of 5-7 you must rent both the main cabin AND the guest cabin. We cannot accommodate groups of more than 7.

Please note that the charge for the guest cabin will not automatically appear on the pricing. The owner will have to manually enter the charge after the guest requests the pricing.

These traditional cabins have been meticulously updated for modern living without compromising their North Shore Arrowhead heritage. They sit just across the yard from each other yet still have ample space between them to offer privacy. The Main Cabin has two bedrooms and the Guest Cabin is a studio. Each has a contemporary kitchen and bath, a gas fireplace, and a lake-facing deck. We offer a wonderful shared space for families and multi-family vacations. We do not rent the cabins separately, so when you rent with us, the property is exclusively yours.

A third building, a renovated boathouse, serves as a screened porch, and is located a few feet from the shoreline. It is a wonderful place for solitude and a nice place to play games on a rainy day. Want to sit out under the stars by a fire and make S’mores? We have a beautiful spot, a slate fire pit also just a few feet from the lake.

Create lasting memories. Bring your family and friends to “The Cabins” to enjoy Pike Lake’s beauty and serenity. Swim off the dock and wade on the pebble beach in the crystal-clear shallow water – perfect for kids (be sure to bring water shoes)! Take a canoe, we have three - two usual sized and a single-person fishing canoe -- or one of our two kayaks for a tour of the amazing and secluded Pike Lake. Don’t forget your fishing poles!

Please note that we do not allow pets.

During the summer months we prefer week-long stays and we welcome weekend and midweek bookings through the rest of the year.

The Surrounding Area
There are so many things to see and do, all year round, close by. Visit Grand Marais, the “Coolest Small Town in America” with it’s beautiful Lake Superior harbor, art galleries, and many restaurants – have breakfast at the Blue Water Café or pizza at Sven and Ole’s. Enjoy a meal at the Angry Trout, the Fisherman's Daughter, the Gunflint Tavern or any one of several great places to eat in the area.

This is what Travel and Leisure magazine says about Grand Marais: https://www.travelandleisure.com/guide-to-grand-marais-minnesota-7642197

Travel south 25 minutes to Lutsen Mountains, “mid-America’s largest ski resort,” for skiing, Gondola rides, Alpine slides (gondola and slides open in the summer), golf, and a number of restaurants and bars (check the local listings link for live bands that play throughout the year.) For that special occasion visit the romantic and historic Lutsen Resort Dining Room. The food and lake views are, like the lake, superior!

Like to hike or mountain bike? You’ve come to the right place! Lake Superior, picturesque waterfalls and parks, hiking trailheads, and back roads are just minutes away from “The Cabins.” The fall colors are spectacular on Pike Lake and throughout this area.

In the winter, along with great downhill skiing, our location gives you immediate access to miles of groomed cross-country ski trails including the Norpine Trail Association system. A parking lot/trailhead is 2.5 miles from “The Cabins.” 57km of cross country skiing, hiking, and mountain biking trails are just minutes away! The trails wind through mature maple forests, mixed evergreens, and North Country wildlife. A number of the trails have spectacular views of Lake Superior and connect up to the Cascade River State Park Trails. The trails are well marked and maps are available online.

Our Invitation to You
There is plenty to do and, if you like, there is nothing “to do” at “The Cabins.” You are most welcome and warmly invited to spend time throughout the year with us. Please know that while we love pets, we do not allow them at “The Cabins.”

Little Cabin in the Big Woods

This cabin was delightful - the lighting and decor so cosy and every little thing was thought of - from cosy wool throws, games, DVDs, a fully stocked kitchen with sharp knifes and good pots and pans....there were extra goodies on hand if food ran low - which it didn't but the snow and remote nature of the space felt better with a few essentials provided. At night we could hear the ice creaking and otherwise it was absolutely silent with brilliant stars. The bedding was soft, the towels were too...we slept like a dream. Thanks for sharing your space with us.

This was our sixth stay at the cabin.(We like it!) A bonus was the new induction range. For those who haven’t used induction this will be a good introduction to energy efficient cooking.

Family weekend

Cabin was clean, lake was awesome, comfortable accommodations, well stocked. Only downside was the open vaulted ceilings having a full house you could hear everything at night.

Stayed here with 3 grandkids and had a great time. 60 years ago we had a cabin on this lake, just a few properties away. Had a good time reminiscing with the grandkids and we will definitely do it again.

Amazing lake cabin!

This is the third time we've stayed at this cabin. We love the option of booking one or both of the cabins on the property. The decor is so beautiful, I especially love the local art. The hosts are so thoughtful in the gift basket they have for you, as well as having well stocked kitchen and bathrooms. We enjoyed taking the kayaks and canoes out on the lake. We hope to continue our annual summer stays at this cabin. Such a beautiful place!

Enjoyable stay at a far northern MN lake

We were two adult couples and one couple rented the extra cabin on the property. This worked out quite well for us. We took advantage of the nearby Grand Marais area and spent quite a bit of time in the lake, both swimming and using the provided kayaks and canoe. We were able to watch a loon family which was nesting nearby.

Good, but…

We arrived in the evening and were greeted by a trillion mosquitoes. This posed great challenge when trying to use the lockboxes to retrieve keys to both the houses, which were in themselves kind of stuck and had to use great force to open. Unknowingly, the main house door was already ajar, so said mosquitoes were setting up shop inside. As said in other reviews, which sadly I had not read, the walls of the bedrooms do not go to the ceiling, so everyone has to have quiet and lights out at the same time. The lake and provided boats are fantastic. No mosquitoes over the water 😊 The guest house sadly smelled like dead rodent (again, wish I had read reviews). My parents said the smell cleared out fairly well after opening the windows. About half the windows had torn screens tho, so they couldn’t be used due to the waiting mosquitoes. The bathroom door in there also should get shimmed for easier opening and closing; it has a sign to say “lift” but the problem can really be taken care of easily. Overall, I’d say the main house is quite nice, but the guest house needs the smell eliminates and some maintenance.

Second stay

Had an amazing time again. Fishing was great this year. 7 bass caught but honestly didn't spend much time fishing because the area has so much you'll want to see. Bernard was prompt on all questions and is awesome to work with. Can't wait to book again!

Lovely Property

The whole stay was amazing despite this season's abundance of mosquitoes. I would recommend spraying the cabin outdoors or having a mosquito machine. We wanted to sit outside but they were swarming the whole property. Do note if you are staying in the main cabin that the walls of the main bedroom do not go all the way up. Our kids could peak in from the top bunk of the other room and the loft. Needless to say, we spent the weekend not getting too cozy lol. But even with that said it is still an amazing stay and I would re-book in a heartbeat. We did not need to bring anything except food and drinks. We did get a small bottle of wine on arrival which was really yummy.

Why they chose this property

The Cabins at Pike Lake offer a unique setting with the main cabin and the guest cabin both being available to rent and they both have a waterfront setting. Whether you need one cabin or both to accommodate your family and friends you'll find them both to be amazingly comfortable and well-suited to discerning tastes. The clean waters of Pike Lake are just outside the door and the dock, canoe and row boat are all there for your use. A beautiful slate bonfire area sits lakeside, too. Listen to the crackle of the fire and the waves. Pike Lake is a good fishing lake, too, so don't forget your poles/tackle.

What makes this property unique

Two cabins on the shores of Pike Lake and just a few steps to the water's edge. Wildlife, call of the loons, , quiet & serene setting, proximity to downtown Grand Marais, quality of the lodging itself...what more does one need in a private get-away!
