A perfect spot to stay for a relaxing break

We had a thoroughly enjoyable break in the lovely cottage in Ousby which is a beautiful, peaceful village. It is a good base to be for walking and visiting nearby Penrith and Keswick and Ullswater and Derwentwater. The cottage is well equipped and comfortable and it was great to have a private garden. We would like to return,

Smittergill is a very cosy, welcoming cottage.

Smittergill is a very cosy, welcoming cottage. It's perfect for a truly relaxing holiday, especially with a dog. I have marked it down slightly because the water pressure is very low in the shower and the wash basin tap is loose, but neither of these spoiled our holiday. Meryl is friendly, helpful and welcoming. She provides delicious scones and jam as part of her welcome to the cottage. The local pub/restaurants serve delicious food, too. A great little cottage tucked away in the countryside.

A great little cottage tucked away in the countryside. It’s dog friendly as we stayed with our pooch and had nearly everything you needed for a weeks stay. Lovely little touches were made also. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo

This is the nicest cottages we’ve stayed in since we started using cottages.

This is the nicest cottages we’ve stayed in since we started using cottages.com! It’s set in a beautiful quadrangle of an old coaching inn with a real late mediaeval well! Beautiful countryside and a garden that is visited by many bird types a red squirrels! Inside, the cottage is warm and comfortable, nicely furnished with plenty of room. Would I recommend this place? Your absolutely dead right I would!

Such a lovely place.

Such a lovely place. We booked last minute for a New Years getaway. We arrived and it looked beautiful with a little Christmas’s tree in the lounge all lit up. There was also homemade scones, chocolates and a bottle of fizz for us! Location good for access to the lakes. Really close to lacys caves and Long meg. Very peaceful that time of year.

A very comfortable small cottage A great centre for visiting the North Pennines, the North West Dales and the Lakes. Local walks are excellent on very quiet country roads or off road into the fells (footpaths are not as well marked as they should be

Smittergill is a neat little cottage with just the right size of garden attached.

Smittergill is a neat little cottage with just the right size of garden attached. There is accommodation opposite and we felt we had to keep the blinds down but there was no noise from the occupants. There is a shower cubicle which was fine but if you don't want to have a shower every time you want to wash your hair it was a little tricky - picture me leaning over the cubicle on my tiptoes with soap in my eyes trying to turn the shower head off. We enjoyed our time at the cottage and the fact that we could get Netflix on the tv added to our evening relaxation.

Both of us and our dog had a wonderful relaxing time.

Both of us and our dog had a wonderful relaxing time. Very much appreciated the fresh scones on arrival. It was lovely of the owners to come and say hello a couple of times and was reassuring to know that they were only around the corner if we needed any help. The cottage had everything we needed, spacious and comfortable.
