About this property

The Nest at Birch Quarry

After renting places at the Jersey Shore and OBX, where the kitchen, and, the contents of the kitchen, seemed like a complete after thought, we decided to set up our kitchen properly. We like to cook and entertain, and the kitchen reflects our lifestyle. New white dishes & serving platters. New utensils, cutlery, pots & pans, coffee maker, French press, toaster over, blender, tea kettle, storage containers and kitchen tools. We stocked the cabinets with proper wineglasses, martini glasses, champagne flutes and craft beer glassware.

Our kitchen will be stocked with coffee, coffee filters, tea, olive oil, vinegar(s), spices. Foil, plastic wrap, baggies, trash bags are all provided.

Paper towels, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, dishwasher detergent, laundry detergent, mop, dustpan, broom, vacuum and a dust-buster are provided.

Our comfortable family room has the only TV on property. It is a 55 inch 'smart TV'.

COVID19 SANITATION: I have invested in a sanitation system, which is used by my cleaning crew, between every checkout and arrival. I saw it being used by my dentist in his office, after each patient, and I made the investment.
How does it work? Simple tap water, Kosher salt and vinegar are placed into the "water electrolizier" vessel. It has two electrodes. In 10 minutes, the electrodes turn these household items into hypochlorous acid. (HOCI) The hypochlorous acid is poured into an industrial fogging machine. When plugged in, the fogger produces a spray, containing millions of micro droplets. We spray each room and all surfaces. When the droplets settle and begin to evaporate, they destroy the cell walls of bacteria, germs and viruses. This is 10 x more powerful than using bleach as a disinfectant, yet, it does not damage our household furnishings. It is even safe enough to be sprayed onto fruits and vegetables!! .

MUSIC: We also have a BLUE TOOTH "Marshall Amp" Stereo system. Play wireless music, from your cell phone, or attach the cord to your iPod.

Guest Access

You will be able to enjoy the entire home, and the surrounding grounds.

Interaction with Guests

I am available, by cell phone. I also have a friend who lives a few minutes away, in Dorset. He is acting as my 'caretaker', and, upon renting, you will be given his contact information.

The Neighborhood

Dorset is one of the most beautiful and quaint towns in all of Vermont. There is the Dorset Playhouse for theater. Excellent dining options are right in town,...The Barrows House, the Dorset Inn and Inn at West View Farm.

The Dorset Union Store (in town), H.N. Williams Store (along Rt 30 -north) offer plenty of choices for sandwiches, soups, homemade baked goods, take away meals. Beer and wine purchases, too. H.N. Williams is also a mini-department store. Stop in for an amazing experience and a trip back in time.

Right down the hill from our house, in walking distance, is a little farm stand, offering, during summer and fall, garden fresh produce, eggs and syrups. Our neighbors, just directly below our house, make their own delicious maple syrup, and it is for sale.

The Dorset Farmers Market operates on Sundays from 10am to 2pm. Fresh vegetables, cheeses, syrups, honey, baked goods, dairy products, eggs, assorted crafts and live music. Located on Route 30, next to H.N. Williams. In winter, the farmers market moves inside the J.K. Adams Kitchen Store.

We are only 1 mile from the Dorset quarry, which is one of the states most famous swimming holes!

We are located close to Manchester ( 5 minute ride). Manchester offers a wide variety of dining options, galleries and plenty of outlet shops, and it is the home of Orvis!

Emerald Lake State Park is close by, for fishing and swimming. Non-motorized water craft can be rented, at the park. The world famous Battenkill River and Mettowee River are minutes away, offering some of the best trout fishing in Southern VT.

We are very close to Bromley, Magic and Stratton mountain for winter skiing, and summer fun. The Long Trail and Appalachian Trail cross along Route 30, near Peru / Bromley area, for easy access to a day hike! Within a 1 hour ride, you can ski at Okemo, Mt. Snow, Pico and Killington.

Getting Around

You will need your own transportation.

Other Things to Note

PELLET STOVE: The pellet stove is a very efficient source of heat during the winter. Use it as your main source of heat, with electric base board heat as back-up. It is easy to start, and directions are provided. The fireplace area has a nook, and it will be filled with six bags of pellets. Additional bags are stored in the outside shed.

PLOWING: The driveway and parking area will be plowed, during and after snow storms. You may be asked to move cars, to maximize the area to be plowed.

SKI RACK: Skis must be kept outside, on the ski rack.

CELL PHONE / WIFI: Verizon has a tower in East Dorset, and reception is spotty. However, I have added a Verizon 'mini' tower, in the family room, to boost the signal, and it works great in the house and on the deck area. You must dial #48 to connect to the mini tower. AT&T has a tower close by, and reception is good. WIFI is available, and the code is in the house manual, provided. It works throughout the house.

CHECK IN / CHECK OUT: "Self-Check In" anywhere between 12:00 noon and 9:00pm. Check out by 11:00am.

Idyllic getaway

The Nest at Birch Quarry was a perfect getaway. We were three couples in the area to attend a wedding. We were so pleased with the property. It is beautifully decorated with lots of extras to make you feel at home: games, throw blankets, reading material, a well stocked pantry, great seating. Choose. the Nest when you are in the Manchester/Dorset area. You won't be disappointed.

Lovely home in Dorset

We just spent a wonderful 5 days in Phil and Gwynn’s lovely home in Dorset. The house is Cody with understated chic decor and every room is comfortable and inviting. The kitchen is well stocked and spotless and the pellet stove keeps the house nice and warm on cold days. The house is tucked away and peaceful. Phil provided a lot of local information making our visit easy and restful. We are looking forward to our next visit.

The Best!

This was our second time staying at Phil and Gwynn’s and it was just as lovely as the first. We love to cook and entertain and everything you could possibly need is there. The addition of a/c in the bedrooms was fantastic on the muggy nights but when it isn’t too hot the house has a lovely cross breeze. Phil was available when we had a question and checked in with us upon arrival. We will definitely return!

Wedding weekend

Had a great weekend in Vermont. Was traveling with a larger group to attend a wedding, and the Nest was a perfect way to keep us all together. Had a nice fire at the fire pit, and memorable swim at the old marble quarry park around the corner. Excellent spot.

Cozy Christmas Stay

This is the most well-appointed rental we have ever stayed at. Everything you could possibly need (or forgot to pack) in the kitchen, bathrooms, laundry, etc. Also very updated/modern in Dorset, where many rentals are dated. Very cozy. The pellet stove keeps the living area warm 24/7. We didn't use the outdoor areas, but the fire pit and pond areas must be great in the warmer weather. Phil was very welcoming and communicative during our stay.

A beautiful stay in Dorset

We had a wonderful time in Gwynn and Phil’s lovely property in Dorset. The home was very comfortable and beautiful. Phil was the most helpful host we have ever had. It’s the kind of place you’d want to settle in for the season and never leave. The kitchen was very well stocked, the fireplace and the fire-pit were great! The grounds were very private. We felt relaxed from the minute we walked in. Thanks, Gwynn and Phil!

Comfortable, Serene and Majestic

This home was very comfortable and serene. Plenty of room, very spacious and open. The home is surrounded by beautiful trees and the property has a pond, creek, marble boulders, marble deck with fire pit, and plenty of outdoor seating and playing, right on site. We highly recommend this home and the property next door sells fresh produce and eggs, right from their property!

Perfection!

My family spent almost 3 weeks at this beautiful home in Dorset. The location is absolutely beautiful. The beds are incredibly comfortable and the indoor/ outdoor space is fantastic. What really blew us away was now well the house was stocked with paper products, kitchen wares and matching wine glasses. Anytime we had a question Phil responded promptly and often added local suggestions to make our trip even better. You will not be disappointed! Thank you Phil and Gwynn! We can't wait for our next visit!

Mother’s Day family getaway

This was the perfect long weekend for our little family! Phil and Gwynn are incredible hosts, anticipating our every need and making themselves available to answer any questions before and during our stay. With a 3-year old and a 7-month old, we know we have to haul a lot of stuff. It was so nice not to have to pack sheets, towels, kitchen and bathroom items, etc., knowing Phil and Gwynn provide pretty much everything you’ll need!! The property is absolutely gorgeous - private and spacious. My older son loved sleeping in the “cow bed”, and couldn’t wait to run around the yard, or to visit the playground just a few minutes down the road. My husband and I enjoyed cooking in the beautiful gourmet kitchen, and drinking wine by the fire. We can’t wait to go back!

spring getaway for Vermonters

My family and I had a great short stay at this property. Phil was very helpful with suggested places to hike and bike and his place had plenty of outdoor space to spread out and enjoy the nice weather. The kitchen was well stocked and when the weather suddenly turned cooler we stayed nice and cozy with the pellet stove.

Great experience

- Lately, I always comment on VRBO photos of the property. In this case the house is better than the photos - which is exactly how we like it! - Great house and surrounding property. The design of the house is interesting. Great outdoor spaces to use primarily not during winter [we were skiing all day anyway] - fire pit, pond, patio. It was difficult for us to spend the time outdoors as it was too cold. But, it is obvious that one can have some good times outdoors. - The house. Inside it works/comes together very well. Great kitchen. Impressive dining room area with that wall of windows. Pellet stove worked very interestingly [we've never seen pellet stove before]. All beds were comfortable - mattresses, linens, pillows of high quality. - The communication with owner (Phil) was great. - This is not a shell of a property where owners do not live or bought it just for rental purposes. This is a well designed property where you know the owners not only spend a lot of time taking care of it but also invested some serious money. - Love the wine glasses. (Was afraid to use red wine glasses. I usually break one or two - not this time). Very often owners hide good wine glasses or do just do not have them and the renters end up having to use one or two plastic + one or two IKEA wine glasses. Not the case here!

Best VRBO home we have ever rented!!

This home is just incredible, property is well kept and the host is so welcoming. Phil and Gwynn's home has everything to make your get away perfect. The bedrooms have very comfortable mattresses , beautiful comforters to keep you warm if needed and you even have 2 different pillows to pick from . We each had 2 sets of plush towels to use for showering during our stay. Definitely 5 star. Kitchen has everything you possibly could need and then some. We have rented many houses thru VRBO and this house is the best by far. Everything in this kitchen is well kept and like new. Condiments, spices and even paper towels, napkins and coffee are provided. You can tell the owners really care about their guests. The location of this house is great, short driving distance to everything. Phil suggested things for us to see and do and also some great restaurants. His description of the restaurants , prices and food were a great help to us. Food was incredible. Dorset is a well kept secret and we can't wait to go visit again. Thanks Phil and Gwynn.

Perfect week in VT!

My husband and I have absolutely loved our time in VT and our stay at Phil's house in Dorset. The house was exactly as advertised, if not better. The property is beautiful, lots of space and areas outside to relax and enjoy (hammock, deck, fire pit, etc.) -- all of which are inviting and well-kept. The house itself was perfect - feels fresh, very clean, updated, warm and cozy decor...and is COMPLETELY equipped with everything you could want during your stay. We cooked most nights, made lots of use of the kitchen and grill, and having stayed at lots of other rentals were very impressed how well stocked the entire house was and how everything was in clean and perfect -- if not new -- condition. Phil was an AWESOME host as well -- gives you a comprehensive guide to the house and area for your arrival, and is super-responsive and helpful while you're here, was just a pleasure to work with. And in terms of the area, you are centrally located between Manchester and Dorset with tons of local restaurants, shops, amenities (grocery stores, pharmacies, etc.) within a ~5-10 minute drive. Also loved the farm stand right on our street; great, fresh and local produce right outside your door. Can't wait to return, we loved it here!

Feels like a home and not a rental property... absolutely loved it!

This is a cute single family home tucked away behind a wooded area giving it a lot of privacy. The outside is spacious with several sitting areas including a fire pit. It is beautifully decorated inside with nice kitchen appliances and dinnerwares. This is very important to me because I love to cook! The house is close by to many farmer's markets and shops. Extremely convenient. The owner has many recommendations as far as things to do and where to dine. We had a fantastic time staying here and looking forward to coming back again next year.
