About this property

On Golden Sands - Macleay Island

Water views and great location on the island. The house is positioned towards the end of a quiet boulevard on the north eastern end of the island (about 4kms from where the ferry terminal is located at the southern end of the island). The northern end of the island is where the main bays and beaches are. The water views from the house look towards North Stradbroke Island. There are no houses between you and the water and you can access Moreton Bay out the front of the property. A perfect place for entertaining, relaxing, fishing, swimming, boating and kayaking. There are a number of places on the island where you can eat out, with the closest to the house being the Bowls Club, which has a courtesy bus service. The island has playgrounds and parks (including a new skate park), a 9 hole golf course, a bike track, heritage walking trail, taxi and small local bus service, cafes, two supermarkets, fuel and a host of other services.

Large two storey home, dog friendly. All we ask is that pets are kept off the furniture and we prefer they sleep in the laundry.

The house is perfect for 3 couples or 2 small families. There is an upstairs and downstairs living area, with easy access shower and toilet on both levels. Upstairs has a massive deck off the living area, with open kitchen, dining and lounge (with TV and DVD player). There are two large bedrooms upstairs, one with a queen bed and the other with a queen and single bed. All the rooms have built-in-wardrobes. Downstairs there is a bedroom with a queen bed, and the rumpus room/bar area with flat screen TV and DVD player. There are also board games and a collection of DVDs at the house. There is wi-fi available at the property and mobile phone reception. The downstairs area flows out to a lower deck and sitting area. The small back yard is fenced and the house is fully screened. The house is designed for anyone looking to have a peaceful and relaxing short break or longer holiday with plenty of space for everyone.

Please note: The house is no longer accessible from the rear of the property as it is fenced off and as such the property is not suitable for anyone with a mobility impairment as there are multiple stairs from the front of the property to the 2nd floor of the house, with no hand rail on the external stairs to the first level. Also note that there are no parties allowed or gatherings, no excessive noise allowed and maximum of 6 people and no smoking on the premises. Breaking of any house rules results in immediate eviction, police action and all monies forfeited, including security deposit.

Boating, swimming and fishing out the front of the property

To the left of the house is an open beach area where you can swim and launch a tinnie or a kayak around the high tide. There is also an all tide ramp at the southern end of the island and a half-tide concrete boat ramp on the western side of the island at Dalpura Bay, which is a short two minute drive (or 15 minute walk) from the house. Dalpura Bay is also a good spot for a swim and a fish when the tide is in and a great place to sit and watch the spectacular sunsets. As well as being able to take a passenger ferry (which now accept GoCards) or a vehicle ferry to the island to access the property, you can pilot your own boat (or even a seaworthy kayak) to the house. You can anchor in the shallow bay out the front of the house for the week or the weekend. The local bay is protected from the North Easterly and the Westerly winds, which makes it ideal for kayaking in most conditions. There is a narrow slipper kayak at the property for the use of guests. There is open parking at the front of the property. Plenty of room for the boat and car.

Our Home in Paradise

Fabulous place in paradise.Has everything needed for a great holiday. The house is very roomy and all meals and drinks were had on the large verandah looking over the bay to Stradbroke. The Kookaburra family visited us every time to share nibbles. We had many a walk along the waterfront met lots of friendly locals. Did not want to leave the place, but will be back.

A relaxing getaway

A really nice place to stay with the family. Plenty of room for everyone with main living area upstairs and extra living/bedroom downstairs and decks on both levels. Plenty of comfortable seating for a large family inside. Upper deck with BBQ, outdoor dining and lounge was where we spent most of our time. Great communication from the owner. Yard is fully contained which was great for our 2 dogs.

Perfect location and amenities for our use.

We are building a house on Macleay and our builders have been staying at On Golden Sands and they love the location and are enjoying the house. Greg the manager has been great to communicate with and our booking has been confirmed very quickly each time. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a stay here.

Beautiful Beach House

Beautiful house and great deck to have morning coffee and breakfast with sunrise over the bay and Straddie and birdwatching. Thanks for the bikes - we had an afternoon bike ride over to Lamb Island. House was private and a relaxing atmosphere. I cant wait to return with my canoe for a morning paddle as close to the water.

Relaxing getaway

We had such a relaxing weekend, we didn't want to leave. The property is clean and comfortable with a big, sunny balcony looking out to Straddie. There was only three of us but would be perfect for families. Our dog loved it too. Thanks very much!

Lovely Views, But...

This house is in a very beautiful spot, semi private and oh so close to the water. Everything you need is there, except the dryer...it doesn't work. There are a tremendous amount of large dogs in the immediate vicinity, so close your ears to barking :) I must say that it is NOT appropriate for senior dogs whatsoever. My beautiful boy had a fall on the steps the first day we arrived. Back access is fine but the front is mountain goat territory. As I said, the views are to die for, and everything you need is but a hop step and jump away. But... The house is extremely inappropriate for senior dogs...and I'm very sorry to say...the house is very very grubby inside.

Great value for money

A great house for large groups - plenty of space and well equipped. Our only quibble was quite a lot of the lights weren't working, and only a couple of the bikes provided were functional. But fantastic value of money, and the island is lovely. The local supermarket was surprisingly competitive - same prices as our local woollies on the mainland. Bring mossie repellent!!! There are several options for securing dogs, including on the verandah, or just the front or back yard, which is great.

Great House

We had a great stay at On Golden Sands for Christmas. The house is large and was perfect for our family, young ones downstairs, oldies up top. One person uses a walker, being able to access the property from the back made life easy It was clean and tidy and well equipped The deck is wonderful with a large outdoor setting plus a little table for the children The BBQ was handy as an additional oven for Christmas lunch We made use of the bikes for a ride to the beach Will miss the afternoons on the deck feeding the kookaburras and enjoying the breeze and view Communication with the owner was easy

Ideal family holiday house

This property is a home away from home. Large and spacious 2 storey, 4 bedrooms with large lounge and rumpus area providing plenty of room for everyone to spread out. Huge deck, with big 8 seater table, kids picnic table and a comfy day bed to enjoy the pretty water views. The house is packed with many extras - catering to all family needs for a perfect holiday; 2 big TV's, awesome Stereo, adult & kids DVDs, puzzles, books, kayak, push bikes, boggie boards, crab pots and outdoor candles. Kitchen is spacious and well equipped with a big 2 door fridge, lots of cupboards and bench space, full range of cooking utensils and equipment (no electric beater however) and a great bbq with hood. Lovely views to the water from the kitchen/dining area which was a nice bonus. This house is positioned in a quiet spot at the northern end of the island, the deck faces to the east and has wonderful sunrise views over the bay. Short walk to Dapura Beach and Bowls Club for sandy beach, beautiful sunsets and bistro meals. You can swim and kayak at the beach in front of the house and there are many interesting places for short walks. It was one of our most relaxing holidays ever - so comfortable and quiet without lots of tourists, just friendly locals and lots of birds. There are friendly kookaburras that visit the house each morning expecting to be hand fed leftover meats - they are so tame they let you pat them. This holiday home was perfect for our restful week away, it's not 5 star but it feels like home, every comfort you need is provided. Highly recommend this place, especially for large families or couples wanting to be comfortable sharing the same house.

Stunning home

This property is absolutely stunning. The owners have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable . Take time out to admire all their personal decor they have placed around their home. It will amaze you what they have thought of. Try and wake up early to see the sun rise, it will be hard as its so peaceful you will sleep in, so set your alarm clock. Then follow up the sunrise with a sun set at the bowls club. It is a view you don't want to miss. Use the bikes to go to the coffee shop for breakfast , about a 1.5km ride, you won't be disappointed . If you have young teenagers they won't get a chance to be bored, they will be to busy feeding the kookaburras that visit you on the deck, fishing, bike riding, swimming. We caught a crab the first day, just out the back of the property. This was the best family holiday we have ever had. If u need any advice don't hesitate contacting the owner, he has the best information to make your stay even better. Thank you Greg, we are counting down the days till our next holiday in your beautiful home.
