Magical!

My husband and I came back to the Hudson Valley for an early Christmas celebration with our sons and their wives. Was simply magical w on- suites in every room and a nice kitchen to share snd serve. Beautiful views and fantastic communication w Andrea. We are ready for .. same time next year!! Only downside was piano was badly out of tune, and as we are a professional music family - was a bit disappointing. Everything else made up for it! Simply fabulous

Thanksgiving on the Hudson

My wife, 2 adult children, and I stayed during 2017 Thanksgiving weekend. Great house - 3 large bedrooms and great kitchen with everything you need. Cool artwork and nice remodel of old historic school house. Nice wide view of the Hudson River. Enjoyed exploring Bear Mountain State Park and some of the cool towns located on the Hudson. Easy weekend drive into NYC and Brooklyn. My son / girlfriend took the train and ferry from Brooklyn - no issues - ferry drops off within .25 mile. We walked around the immediate neighborhood, which is working class. There is nice riverfront park across the street and marina nearby. Need to have a car (plenty of parking) to explore properly. Owners were very friendly and helpful. Great times!

Great place to celebrate with friends!

My freshman roommates from college and I enjoyed this wonderful house to celebrate 44 years of friendship. It provided a relaxed and well-appointed setting to gather and catch up with each other. The views of the Hudson are beautiful and the location made it easy to explore the Hudson Valley from Tarrytown to Beacon. Favorite place to sit was on the front porch after dinner.

Casa Hudson's fantastic views, great location and absolute beautIful; home away from home.

Nelson & Andrea are wonderful hosts from the start and all the way through; always available whenever needed. This historic and newly renovated villa is gorgeous; very hard to describe, you have to experience it. I can't believe it used to be a school house. The inside is simple decor with so much elegance. Nelson's art canveses hanging on every wall are breath taken. Imagine for a moment, you're sitting in a very comfortable leather seat in the living room in Casa Hudson in the early morning hour. To your left is the view of the sun rising over the Hudson and to your right is the view of a small mountain covered with snow. Yes this is exactly what I was experiencing on the last day of our four night stay at Casa Hudson. The family and I can't wait until we come back again.

Five for Five

One star for Casa Hudson for the location, on the banks of the Hudson, with a great view, within easy walking distance of everything Haverstraw has to offer. A second star for the Casa itself--large, comfortable rooms, lovingly and tastefully restored by the owners Andrea and Nelson. Star three for the furnishings. Rentals usually are dismally furnished, with bulletproof-ness supplanting all other considerations. Not here. Too many touches of elegance to mention. Star four for the artwork, mostly attributable to Nelson. It's a pleasure to inhabit a space that features bold and beautiful art. Star five goes to Haverstraw, an interesting Latino town that's a mixture of Bogata, Mexico City, and Oaxaca, a delightful surprise just an hour removed from Manhattan. Waitaminute ... I've used up all five stars and haven't had the chance to mention Andrea and Nelson, who are perfect hosts, available, but not intrusive, completely generous with their advice and suggestions. We were three adult couples here for a birthday weekend, and Casa Hudson provided an ideal backdrop.

Awesome house, great view, lovely hosts!

I had a New Years Eve dinner party at Casa Hudson, and we were all thoroughly pleased with the home, our stay, and the hosts. The house is really beautiful, even moreso than the photos suggest. The view out the front of the home is also fantastic, you can see the river from the majority of the rooms, and the large windows let in lots of natural light. We also loved the artwork throughout the home - it really brought a cool art-gallery vibe with a personal touch (the art is Nelson's own). I brought lots of kitchen equipment from my own home to cook dinner, but really only ended up using my knives and baking dishes - the kitchen is well stocked and spacious. This was my first time renting a home on HomeAway where the hosts were present on the property throughout the stay, and I was a little nervous about it ahead of time. Andrea and Nelson, however, gave us complete privacy and stayed out of sight until they were needed. And, as it turns out, we ended up needing them more than once! We couldn't figure out the TV to watch the ball drop, and Andrea came up and spent the time to get it working for us. Then before we left, one of our gang couldn't get his car started, and Nelson provided jumper cables and gave a hand getting the car running again. They REALLY went above and beyond. I think the only drawback of this rental is the town - it is definitely more on the "up-and-coming" end of gentrification. However, we did not ever feel unsafe in the home or in the neighborhood. There was a private parking lot in the back yard for our cars, also.

Amazing Villa overlooking the Hudson

I was looking for a warm retreat for Thanksgiving with our West Point cadet and his friend to escape the rigors of West Point for a few days over the holiday. This property was the perfect distance from West Point and NYC. The owners, Andrea and Nelson, were awesome and very helpful with restaurant recommendations and even helped us plan our day in New York City. They were also more than accommodating when we didn't realize there was no TV (which Nelson said is actually a selling point and I understand that aspect) but on Thanksgiving weekend we were looking forward to just hanging out and watching football spending time with family. They produced a television on the spot for us! We actually ended up spending more time conversing on the porch overlooking the Hudson which was perfect. It is amazing what they have done with the property maintaining the natural wood and brick with incredible artwork and interesting furniture pieces. And the beds were so comfortable-we slept very well and found ourselves back home looking to add the same bedding to our home. All in all, a great experience and I would recommend this property.

House is nice, host is nice.

Andrea is very nice, and the house is very nice, just as described. The view is FANTASTIC. There is a park just in front of the house and nice to take a walk. Overall, we have had very good experience staying. The town and the community is not the type we are particularly expecting, as we were looking for something that are quiter and similar to our Connecticut town. Except for this, we would otherwise gave 5 star.

A lovely house!

We really enjoyed our stay here in this very classy and stylish house with a wonderful front porch that overlooks the Hudson river. This is a large, beautifully decorated house with 3 lovely bedrooms. It was hot during our visit but the house was lovely and cool. The wifi is good and coped with our teenage kids use without any problem. There is only a short walk to the local shops and restaurants and a short drive to supermarkets. This was an ideal location for commuting into New York City to see the sights (an hour to drive into Manhattan) and also having the opportunity to explore the Hudson valley too. Andrea was very welcoming and provided some really helpful advice about driving and parking in New York city, which was much easier than expected (we visited in July). A wonderful holiday!

Beautiful historic home with modern appeal

This home is beautiful. When we arrived we were stunned by its magnificence--didn't realize from the photos the beauty & grandeur of this house. We rented the entire home for our family of 5 for a West Poiny Class Reunion/DC family vacation. We were met by Nelson upon our arrival. He toured the house with us, describing its history, the beautifuu restored original architecture, some of the modern additions (such as gorgeous baths), &, of course, the thought-provoking, beautiful art pieces throughout. This home has been prepared with exquisite detail & a loving touch. Zero complaints! We loved our stay. The owners were professional yet very friendly. This home represents exactly what I love about vrbo.

Wonderful house in a great location.

I really enjoyed our stay. It is a beautiful, comfortable house in a perfect location for visiting New York City - clean and well maintained. I loved the renovations and the art. We walked down the street to the ferry and enjoyed our ride across the Hudson. We then took a train ride to Grand Central Station where we enjoyed the city. The peaceful, scenic ferry and train trip made getting there half the fun. My friends are returning in October. I wish I could join them.

WOW...The Villa....WOW the View...So Close to NY

We rented this Villa out from a Thursday night to Monday morning. We took the train from GCT to a ferry that dropped us off in Haverstraw. (The ferry runs during commuting hours) It was a 10 minute walk to the house. Needless to say, we were blown away by work that was done on the house. It was fascinating to hear about their renovation journey. Each room has beautiful art on the walls and is well designed. The attention to detail is impressive. Our favorite room was the porch. It was great to sit out there, and watch the sailboats and the sunrise over the river. Sunsets were also beautiful as the colors bounced off the water. We had all our meals out there. We rented a car from Enterprise. They were super nice as they picked us up and dropped us off. The house was close driving distance to Bear Mountain, Storm King, Dia Beacon and Westpoint. We took a advantage of the great hiking, kayaking, and biking in the area. There is a great bike trail that connects Haverstraw and Nyack by the river, only the locals really know about it. My husband and I are coming back in the Fall to see the leaves change as they also rent just rent rooms when the full house is not rented. This place is a gem!!!

I am a lover of travel, design, art, friends and, of course food. I relish new experiences, learning about different cultures and opinions. I am an experienced host that has been managing properties on homeaway since 2010.

Why they chose this property

Casa Hudson is located on the Hudson River and it is only 34 miles North of NYC. It is a perfect weekend getaway from the city, as there are plenty of places to hike, cycle, climb, canoe, and relax.

What makes this property unique

It is an easy drive from NYC, the village is walkable and there are great restaurants near by. There are great trails close by that are no more then a 5 minute drive.
The villa was hand painted by artist Nelson Diaz, he used pastels to get the high/lows of an Italian villa in Tuscany. All the art is original which creates a peaceful sanctuary from the fast pace life we all are accustomed to living.
