About this property

Secluded Cabin on 13 acres; Private 50 acre lake

Last Minute opening for Birkie 2025.

Our secluded cabin is nestled inside 13 wooded acres on Mirror Lake. You will enjoy your own private beach on a private lake and there is a 14 x 18 three-seasoned porch providing mosquito-free relaxation day or night. There are a total of nine homes around the lake but for the most part, you will have the lake to yourself. A paddle board, paddleboat, 3 adult and 2 kiddie kayaks, and a canoe are available for your use. Fishing for crappie, bass, and pike is exceptional. This is a good lake to teach your kids how to fish. The lake is small (50 acres) and is ideal for small boats. If you prefer bigger lakes the Round Lake boat launch is one mile down the road. Enjoy campfires on the beach in comfortable Adirondack chairs, explore the wooded property, and enjoy morning coffee and sunrises on the wrap-around deck.

The water is crystal clear but the bottom is a mix of both sand and mud.
There is a cleared swimming area of approximately 20 x 20 with a sandy bottom near the 'beach'. The lake is about 30 feet deep in the center. We have a 6 x18 water mat (lilypad) that can be pulled out where the water is deep. It's easy to climb on and off while in the water.

The majority of our summer guests are repeat and book privately. From time to time schedules change and dates open up. To get on the notification list simply inquire here on VRBO.

Great stay

Like others before us, we had a great stay at this secluded home near Hayward, WI. It was too cold to enjoy much of the outdoors, but the home was warm, cozy, well appointed and comfortable. Would definitely stay again.

Great week in the North Woods

This property is wonderful. We loved taking our dog on walks along the path and down by the lake. The weather was a little cold and rainy a couple of days, but the cozy cabin was perfect to cuddle up with a book. It's also just an hour and a half drive to Duluth, which made for a really fun day trip.

Peace and Quiet

The home was perfect for us. We enjoyed 5 peaceful days with our two dogs. Esther was a pleasure to work with and the property has everything you need. Bonus is the location, and we were fortunate to experience the beautiful fall colors during our time. If you are looking for a relaxing place to escape your busy lives, this is it.

Awesome cabin with great location

My son and I came Hayward to xc ski on the Birkie trail/Birkie tour. The cabin is extremely well finished with all of the basic necessities provided for. The site is very large and private however very close the Birkie trail and a handful of area restaurants.

Welcome to Peace & Quiet!

We had a wonderfully relaxing stay in the secluded cabin! Everything we needed was at hand, and the cabin itself is charming, clean, and comfortable. It was so quiet by the lake, and we left feeling replenished. Thank you!

Cozy cabin in the woods

Great place to get away from it all! Loved this secluded cabin. Very clean and kitchen had a lot of essential items. Close enough to Hayward for a quick drive if you forget anything you need. A lot of yard for our dog to run and play and a nice area down by the water. Definitely looking forward to another stay in the future!

Peaceful beauty

Loved this cabin! Beautifully decorated, clean, well furnished, and such a great location! The little lake was fabulous! Caught fish, sunbathed, paddle boarded, played games, had campfire, and my dogs loved the place, too! Never turned on the TV once, but looks like you could. Would definitely return!

The house was adorable and super cozy. It has a great view of the lake from the living room!

We had a great time at this cabin! We came to Hayward for a wedding but ended up cutting our time at the wedding short because we were enjoying our time at the cabin so much. The wrap around deck was nice and the view of the lake. They had a bob fire pit with seating and endless amount of cut up wood for you. I would recommend this place to all my friends and family if your looking to get away from it all for awhile and just relax.

Third Time a Charm

This is our 3rd trip to the Northwoods of Wisconsin. And as my husband would say “ best Wisconsin vaca ever!” The Maina’s cabin was everything we could have wanted for our fall vacation trip. Loved everything about it! Our dogs loved it too! Great fishing and town was close for any essentials we did need. Enjoyed the privacy, the campfires and the 3 seasons room! We had our dinners out there every night! The cabin had all the supplies and amenities for a comfortable stay! Would highly recommend!

Cozy cabin in the woods

Very neat and super clean, from the towels to the sheets and even the floors, spotless. We enjoyed our 3 days here and would consider coming back again if ever in the area. The weather was a little on the cooler side (and rainy) so we didn't take advantage of the lake and all the offerings to enjoy that. The kitchen was well stocked with all necessary amenities. The only thing any of us thought could be improved was the temperature of the water in the shower, it was tepid at best.

Deer camp 2018

This cabin is so warm and cozy, that it is truly home. There were deer around all the time, a bobcat came through the yard, and got to watch ice fishing and skating. All the other reviews that you read, it's gospel!!! Thanks for everything Esther. You're the best!

Fab Location & Perfect Getaway

Property is simply stunning! Located just 15 mins from downtown Hayward and just a few minutes from Round Lake, it's the perfect location! Lots of great outdoor spots on the property. We especially enjoyed the screen in area that kept those pesky mosquitos away!! Kayaking and paddle boarding on Mirror Lake was simply stunning. And wait to you hear the loons at night! Kitchen area was huge and had every available tool / gadget you could think of! Two bathrooms were plenty big and beds super comfortable. Owner was super communicative and accommodating. Would absolutely choose to stay here again! Internet was a bit slower, but gets the job done as it's the only thing available in the area.

Quiet, secluded, comfortable getaway

I was looking for a quiet and relaxing getaway before starting a new job, but we didn't want to drive more than 3 hours from Minneapolis. This cozy place fit the bill to a tee. From the comfortable couches and beds and fully equipped kitchen to the perfect setting, it was just what I needed. It was so quiet, I swear we could hear the snowflakes land. And of course, I had to find a place that would allow us to bring our dog along. I think he enjoyed running around the property in the snow as much as we enjoyed the walks on the quiet road and the trails in the woods.

Thank you!

Our vacation plans got changed with our two friends due to COVID. We were supposed to be going to Nashville but instead decided to stay locally and it was the best change! You do not ever have to leave this cabin! We really enjoyed the kayaks and paddle boat, yard games, and screens in porch. We have stayed in many VRBO and this is probably the best stocked placed we have stayed in thus far. We are already talking about booking again! Thank you for opening your beautiful cabin and for the much needed, relaxing get a way!

Wonderful week away

What can we say that the other glowing reviews have not covered already? Everything was as described, and the owners were extremely responsive. Beautiful, quiet location, perfect for relaxing. We all enjoyed every aspect of the property - starting from the lake - fishing, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding. Our dog loved swimming in the lake and chasing the ball as we walked around the property. Our five year old enjoyed catching and releasing frogs along the lake shore. The fire pit up by the cabin was perfect for making s'mores and stargazing while listening to the loons. The cabin was well stocked with a perfect kitchen for cooking and grilling. We look forward to returning!

Unacceptable behavior of the owner-changing my rental dates-huge problems-work

I would not stay here again due to the unacceptable behavior of the owner-of whom changed my rental dates without conversing with me. This, in turn caused huge problems with a work meeting which had to be rearranged in a different part of state, which in turn forced me to leave 8 days earlier than my reservation. Also, very inadequate snow plowing in the winter months, a very steep, tough driveway which should be detailed in the property write up. Basically treated like a criminal, of which I am not. Will not book this property again, nor would I recommend it to others based on the owner's behavior.

Long Weekend Getaway

This place was great! The setting was even nicer than the pictures could ever portray! It was so private, clean and cozy. We felt right at home. The canoes and kayaks were used each day, and our dog LOVED running back and forth down by the water. The screen room is a nice area to keep the bugs out, but we were pleasantly surprised that even while down by the lake, there were hardly any mosquitoes. We didn’t use the fire pits because it rained at night for 2 of the 3 nights, but they have two fire pits to choose from, one by the house and one by the water. Fishing was way better than we expected too. My youngest caught perch, bluegills, crappies and bass, and my husband and I found the crappies. You can watch dozens of small bluegills right near and under the dock too. Little kids would love this. We made most of our meals during our stay, and they had everything we needed. When we bbq’d steaks, my husband said he wished he had a meat thermometer. Sure enough, they had a meat thermometer! My two teenaged boys put together both puzzles, we found the cribbage board and made good use of that, and…the canoe was even used to retrieve a neighbor’s boat after he capsized! Great memories were made. I would definitely stay here again and would encourage others to do the same. Thank you for sharing your cabin!

Perfection on Mirror Lake

From the minute we booked this home to the final sad minute we had to leave, everything about this experience was excellent. Since June, we have rented 9 different homes in 8 states and this was our hands down favorite by far! We travel with our dogs, one of which is quite large, and we always double check with owners and provide specific information about our boys before final bookings. The home owner was wonderful during this part. She assured us our giant beast and his tiny sidekick were perfectly acceptable and she offered us specific information about trails (we were there to snowshoe and hike with our boys) that she uses with her dogs, including maps of the trails. And after finding out we would be traveling for roughly 20hrs straight through with our boys to get to the home, she made sure it was ready first thing in the morning so we could check in as soon as we got to town. She also cleared several “potty trails” for our tiny boy so he wouldn’t have to traverse the deep snow which was incredibly thoughtful! Walking into the house we were immediately at home. The design choices and finishes are beautiful and so well done. And it was immaculate! Every single aspect from the bedding to the towels to the floors to every crack and corner were spotless. The kitchen and bathrooms were stocked appropriately and we fully utilized the kitchen for baking and cooking many meals throughout our stay. The bed in the master was comfortable and again, spotless. All of the bedding smelled wonderful! Smart TVs with Netflix and plenty of cable channels were perfect at the end of the day when we cozied down with our boys and getting to wake up and see the winter wonderland out of our doors and windows every morning while drinking our coffee was absolute perfection. If you’re looking for a local bar check out Twin Lakes Tap which is about 6 minutes from the house. Sawmill, Rusty Hook, Norske Nook, and Blackiron are all great places to eat and fairly close (max 20min for a few). If you’re looking to ice fish, give Tom Leahy a call. New Moon Ski and Bike will set you up for biking or skiing or snowshoeing. We had an absolutely wonderful winter vacation and could not be more excited to book again. The home is completely perfect, the owners are amazing, and the town is super fun with something to offer for anyone.

You decide

I'm very torn with this review. My husband and I have been renting vacation homes for 20 years and have never had a problem. This property is wonderful. The lake is crystal clear. It is supplied with kayaks, a canoe and a floating mat. The cabin is very nice and well supplied, including comfortable beds. The problem arose after we left. I booked this cabin a year in advance and usually book a Saturday to Saturday time frame. Well I goofed up and only booked 6 nights. Our hostess contacted us and told us that she had us leaving that morning and that the cleaning lady was waiting to get in. I immediately realized my mistake, told her we'd pack up and get out of there as soon as possible and apologized. We went from pj's to leaving in an hour. I had already hand washed the dishes, that morning, so rather than waste more time I left them air drying in the sink. I was trying to be expedient rather than taking up more time putting the dishes back into the cupboard. I was later accused of leaving dirty dishes in the sink. The only other instructions were to leave the towels in the shower, which we did. The cleaning supplies are all locked up in a closet and the cleaning lady arrived before we left. I apologized to her also, again for the delay. Upon our arrival home, I received an email with images stating that we brought a dog, a bed post was broken, the oven had excessive drips and spills, etc...Say what? We don't have a dog. There were hairs found on the rug, I'm assuming were already there or brought in from outside. The broken bed post ended up being a piece that falls off frequently. The only time we used the oven was to keep something warm on a cookie sheet... I can only assume that the cleaning lady was pissed off with our tardiness and decided to milk the situation to make up her time. We absolutely did not leave an excessive mess even though we scurried to leave. I had no problem paying for the extra cleaning hour since she had to wait, but was highly offended by these accusations. Like I said, even if you wanted to simply sweep, all the cleaning supplies are locked up in a closet. So I suggest if you rent this home, which as I said is very nice, bring some of your own cleaning supplies and check it out with a fine tooth comb or a magnifying glass when you arrive so you are not met with surprise accusations later.
