About this property

Breathtaking cliff top farmhouse with deserted beach

An unashamedly romantic secluded period farmhouse, “Park” has sea views from every room (from every bed if you want to be exact) and is set in a magical unspoiled coastal vista with an unrepeatable “get away from it all” atmosphere.”
A private holiday home and bolt-hole for the same family for more than fifty years, there is a calmness and a healing property that makes it perfect for honeymooners (not necessarily their first) and also idyllic for young children who might find they can explore the abundant natural beauty of the farmland and coastline with a nowadays unusual freedom.
The informal seaside style gardens feature ancient stone walls and extensive grassed areas and suggest the urgent need for a little more relaxation before indulging in anything as vigorous as a walk on the beach let alone a swim. There is a sheltered cove on the property and also rock pools and an amazing rock archway and seating with sea views.

A hidden gem so good I hate to share it.

We stayed at this property in July for a week. Probably one of the best weeks I’ve ever had in Ireland although the weather helped greatly. The location is great. Only an hour or so from Dublin but it feels like you are far away. The house and gardens are as described. The gardens are really beautiful and very well manicured. The farmhouse is everything you would expect from a 17th century building. The decor is very much in keeping with the style. That said it makes it all the better. Don’t be worried however there are all mod cons available. My two girls 7 & 10 were very comfortable, able to watch TV when tired from the sun/ beaches or garden playing on the swings. Saving the best for last is the views. Phenomenal. The house and gardens are situated on a hill/cliff surrounded by farmland and over looking the sea and a beautiful large private beach/cove. We sat out every evening looking out at the sea. No tv needed! My kids had a ball. The private beach with the walkway down was great and there is also a fantastic beach 2 mins away ( Clogga beach). The kids loved it. For dinner or shopping there are loads of option in Arklow and Gorey which is just down the road. Finally the hosts were excellent. Friendly, fast and clear communication and were able to help us with anything we needed.

Beautiful cottage perfect location

This is a stunning old cottage with beautiful gardens. The location is remote but close to arklow and the busy town of Gorey We spent three weeks here and all the grand children loved it with private access to a stunning beach and we rarely saw anyone else on it and we spotted the sea lion most days The house is very well equipped with everything you would need without having to leave for anything except provisions It is spacious and comfortable in fact the pictures don’t do it justice. The owners were prompt and helpful in responding to our queries We all loved it and hope to return in the future Happy memories!!

A lovely home in a lovely place

We spent a really lovely week at the beginning of July in this lovely home. We had lovely weather and the many different areas of the garden allowed teenagers, parents and youngsters to enjoy themselves together or apart. The house is comfortable and the proximity -by a winding grassy path - to a stony beach is magic. Morning swims and evening dips..... We saw one family and two foxes on the beach in the space of a week. And then star gazing and picnics.. all without leaving the house.

Totally unique

This place is awesomely beautiful. It's like being in an Enid Blyton novel, you feel like you should be eating bread and jam sandwiches before heading off to the beach for an adventure. The house is like a museum property with twisty creaking stairs and very old wooden doors everywhere. Everything you need for a comfortable holiday is there - good quality kitchen paraphernalia, extra rugs, beach towels, plenty of books etc. We had beautiful weather so mostly ate outside listening to the birdsong and being surprised by a fox one morning who nonchalantly padded past. There is a long drive down into the property winding through farmland, past a copse and then down a flower-filled lane which we walked up every morning. The view over the beach is stunning. It is accessed via steps cut out of the hill and we had it to ourselves the whole week. If you want to get away from it all but still be within driving distance of all Wicklow has to offer then this is the place for you.

Beautiful cottage in stunning location with direct access to secluded beach.

We had a most enjoyable week in this beautiful cottage. Everything was lovely and clean and the cottage is very well equipped. It has lovely gardens with stunning views out to sea. We spotted the seal one morning and often saw hares running along the beach or even visiting in the garden. The children had a great time playing on the deserted beach, in the sea, on the bodyboards and fishing. We absolutely loved the quiet, private and peaceful location and would love to visit again one day. Highly recommended!

Wonderful

What a lovely stay we had at Park. The beautiful scenery and warm and welcoming old house helped us to settle down and feel at home at once. We did a walk on the private beach every morning tot enjoy the sunrise! Despite its age, the house is equipped with modern comfort (warm shower, well functioning heating, all thinkable appliances in the kitchen). The place is remote, but many touristic spots can be reached within a one hour drive. A few weeks before arrival, the owner sent us a sightseeing list which was very helpful, we used it every day!

Recovery from Townlife

We want to recreate from work and therefore we found: - much space around and inside the house; both well kept - the rooms are tastefully old furnished and breath past times - the kitchen has all features we need today - the environment is absolutely noiseless - no traffic - no one around us - we have seen the deepest black nights ever - the owner takes care of us What we missed: - deck chairs - outdoor lighting on the ground (for the mood) In our opinion is this a good place to slow down in an amazing nature.

A lovely homely cottage, where you can truly switch off from everything.

We had a fabulous week here. The gardens were fantastic and our 2 young children loved playing and exploring in them. It is then a short stroll to a lovely beach which we were the only inhabitants of for the whole week. The cottage is cosy with nice old furniture and features which we really loved. On chilly nights we were able to light the fire. Colin the owner has been very helpful with comprehensive information provided before and excellent communication with us throughout the whole experience. We would definitely recommend it as a great family holiday.

Wonderful place

This will be a rave review but I want to begin with a qualifier; the house is very well equipped but it is also rustic. Upstairs walls are wood boards that let light through. Floor boards have gaps looking to rooms below. It is an old house and feels comfortably country old. If this is your cup of tea (as it is ours) you will love your stay here. The location is to die for, with a cliff and a beach basically just for you. It is also smack in the middle of some of Irelands nicest country. Some places, many of which you wont find in guidebooks but are delightful, are; Gorey and Wexford on the coast and the little towns Clonegal and Tinahely inland. Colin was perfect with just the right amount of involvment and concern.

Rustic cliff top house – great choice for our fami

The owners’ overview of Park is accurate so in my review, I’ll try to capture other details I think may be of interest to the prospective visitor based on our experience. Colin was extremely helpful and quick to respond to any questions we had prior and during our trip. The details he provided were needed and very much appreciated on our end. The privacy and seclusion from the world this property (beach included) offers are priceless. I believe hares are the only permanent residents on the property. The house may be old but it is very well maintained (so are its surrounding grounds) and has all the needed modern amenities. The kitchen is very well equipped and organized – we found everything we needed in the expected places. If you forgot your binoculars, which may come in handy for seal watching, don’t worry, Colin has a couple of them available for you to use. Colin also thought about the avid reader or the visitor who (alas!) forgot his/her Ireland guidebook. His bookcase shelves are well stocked with the writings of a variety of authors such as James Joyce, Milan Kundera to name a couple. We spent a wonderful, mostly sunny, early fall, one-week vacation at Park and we would recommend this location to those who are in search of peace and quiet surrounded by natural beauty.

Compelled to Return!

We visited Park 3 years ago and could not stop thinking about it. It is a soul-restoring getaway that beckons one to return. We found that Colin’s excellent directions through the countryside were not even needed on our subsequent visit this summer. We just “knew” the way to the cottage! Colin and Fleur are so gracious, informative and friendly. They make booking and settling in to the cottage so easy! The cottage is full of history and life. During your stay you feel a part of this and a sense of renewed spirit and energy increases with each day of this wonderful holiday. A well-stocked library is available in the family room with everything from local history to work from renowned Irish authors. The kitchen is beautifully equipped and cooking and sharing meals with family and friends is one of our favorite things to do! We even love washing our clothes and hanging them out on the line to dry in the fresh Irish air! Knitting, reading and talking in front of the evening peat fires make life-long memories. Walks on the beach with a cup of coffee or tea is absolutely the most perfect way to start the morning! It is difficult to pull ourselves away to enjoy side trips, but there are interesting and plentiful opportunities. This trip we visited Glendalough, Avoca Weavers, Waterford and even made it as far as Blarney. We have already started talking about our next visit!

Perfect Honeymoon Getaway!

My husband and I stayed at Park for the first part of our honeymoon in Ireland. First, I would like to say that the pictures of this property don't do it justice. The farm surrounding park is absolutely gorgeous and my husband and I had the best time taking walks on the beach as well as the farm. The house is very clean, comfortable, and charming. We loved being able to have a full kitchen equipped with everything we needed to cook! Working with Colin was wonderful! He went out of his way to provide suggestions for things to do in the area and was very flexible when we got a flat tire on our way to check in. The nearby town of Arklow is about 12 minutes away and has restaurants, shops, and a modern shopping center that seemed to also include a movie theater. While it was great to have so many conveniences nearby, my husband and I spent a lot of our time enjoying the peace and quiet that Park has to offer. When we did venture out, we enjoyed exploring Arklow as well as the nearby town of Ferns. Ferns isn't too far away and has a beautiful castle you can tour for free! Most of the castle was in ruins, but you could go inside to see a circular chapel and an incredible rooftop view. It's definitely worth a trip to see! We also grabbed a pint at a nearby restaurant, we can't seem to remember the name but it served an excellent Guinness. We also took a trip to Glendalough, where we hiked up into the Wicklow Mountains National Park. We took the Spinc trail, which was roughly a 2 hour hike up past the Poulanass Waterfall to the boardwalk on top of the cliffs. If you like to hike I would highly recommend taking a trip to Glendalough! There are also easier walks including one that takes you to an old miner's village. Overall, staying at Park was our favorite part of the honeymoon. My husband and I are already hoping to make a return trip in the future. If you are looking for a place to getaway, you won't find a better spot than Park.

A Dream Come True

The minute we saw the picture of Park on VRBO we knew we had to stay there. It did not disappoint. Park was more than we could possibly imagine. We kept pinching ourselves to believe we were really in such an amazing place. We had a beautiful beach all to ourselves (except for Siobhan the seal and Liam the fox). The gardens of Park are lovely and much more beautiful than the pictures on the site. The house itself was like living in times long past with the exception of the convenience of lovely bathrooms and and kitchen. Truly wonderful. We spent most of our week enjoying Park...where else could we go that would be more spectacular than where we were living? However, when we needed food and libations we would venture into Gorey, a pretty village of wonderful shops to meet all of our needs, lovely cafes, a great delicatessen and even a French Boulangerie. Colin was a delight to work with and couldn't have been nicer. We have stayed in many amazing places all over Europe but Park is our all time favorite. We hope to return to Park some day soon.

A beautiful place to get away from it all

I made the reservation for my mother and I to have holiday, and we intended to do many more things during our first trip to Ireland, but other than the occasional trip to Tesco, we rarely left the premises. The Gardens are lovely and well tended, as is the path to and from the private beach. The rocks and cliffs on and around the beach are an experience all their own. The private driveway leading to the property is about a mile in length and made for many lovely afternoon excursion as my mother and I walked the length of it. My only regrets are not planning out holiday a little later in the year, as I imagine the best time to be there is when all of the blackberry brambles that surround the property bear fruit. I missed the coffee pot almost as soon as we left and I miss the serenity that surrounded this little haven. Colin and Fleur are wonderful to rent from and you won't find more responsive or caring landlords for your stay. I will be back as money permits, as I want to share this wonderful place with more of my family!

Spectacular week

The Park is a wonderful experience, this being our second visit. A lovely cottage with modern facilities, well equipped kitchen, comfortable bedrooms and living areas. The gardens are beautiful and the beach amazing. The owner was a pleasure to deal with. I highly recommend. We dined out only once at a restaurant in Arklow also call The Park, our reason for choosing, and again highly recommend. We had a week of amazing sun so even got to swim in the sea as well as sun bathe on our own beach. Even the variety of pebbles created an interest. Along with cows, birds and bumble bees; seals, hares and a hedgehog were seen.

History and your own beach

For starters, the gardens have grown so beautifully and significantly since the website pictures were taken that what appears as a wonderful home and location is - if possible - even better than described. The grounds are spectacular. Bear in mind...this is a beautiful home, but it's an old home! For those appreciating history, the beach, privacy...this is your place. The drive in is enchanting. The local cows add a wonderful touch, but it's when you settle in and ramble over to the head of the beach walk that you truly understand this property. To have this rambling, historical house, the grounds, the beach, etc., it's just incredible. We used Park as a home base for exploring, including Glendalough, Avoca and Bray/Greystone. The Wicklow Gap and other need-to-see places are easily accessible from the house. Then, of course, it was nice to just search for stones and shells.

A Uniquely Enjoyable Experience.

As civilization expands and becomes more hectic, fewer places offering total quiet and solitude are available for vacation experiences. Park is such a venue, given the incredible private beach (loved the cave) and separate courtyards surrounded by numerous varieties of plants/flowers. The house is cozy, not lavish, but offers all amenities needed for an enjoyable stay. Being antique lovers, we adored the period furniture and open (working) fireplaces in the living room and "old" kitchen. The owners were a pleasure to deal with and provided great directions to Park. It feels like such a remote location and that's why we rented it, but with Dublin an hour away, it makes a great spot to tour the eastern countryside from. We hope to be back to decompress again. Kudos to the owners for renting it...if I were them, I'd be there every day.

An Ideal Haven

We felt that the place was just waiting for us. It is a true gem. The farmhouse is stunning inside and out and the gardens laced the sea views so beautifully. The house was so stylish and familiar in that the resonance from the antique furniture made it feel timeless yet comfortable. The kitchen was really well equipped and the cottage was clean and warm and the bedding was of a very good quality. Having a private beach was just amazing. It was a truly perfect haven. Thank you to Colin for his attention to detail and for checking that all was well by phone when we arrived.

Unvergessliche Ferien in Irland

Dear Colin, I have never written a review, so I’m just hoping it is what you expect and are interested in... To start with, the house was absolutely great: Everything was neat and in good condition. The beds were very comfortable and especially the living room with its fireplace very cosy! The kitchen was also nicely equipped – perhaps some sharp knives would be great. Furthermore it is very kind to prepare towels and blankets for the guests! Nonetheless we did not spend too much time inside (only in the evenings) since the garden and the beach are so lovely! Sitting at the outside table in the sun (as you said, we hit the weather jackpot!) surrounded by such a beautifully made garden was just grand. Having a beach just for ourselves was great, too! This green landscape around Park with no close neighbours – except cows and horses – has been absolutely the right place for all of us to calm down and simply relax. Last but not least, your tips concerning visiting Arklow were helpful and we really enjoyed the city! All the people we met were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, too. I must say, the description you gave on the Internet was not even a bit over exaggerated! The holiday was perfect in every way. Thank you so much for your preparation before our arrival as well as for the friendly call and your interest in our opinion afterwards. Best regards Anna, Ruth, Rebekka, Christian & Esther

OUTSTANDING

An absolutely fabulous location with awesome views of the Irish Sea. Set away from civilization, The Place is the place to go for a relaxing and quiet time. The beach was a great place to walk to look for seashells. For stargazers - we saw three planets and numerous constellations. Colin and Fleur, the owners, provided awesome directions from Dublin; what to do for wifi connections; and a menu of places to visit and restaurants to dine. It is refreshing to deal with people who still believe in customer/client service. They were top notch in very way, even calling to check up on us. The focal point of our stay with my two Irish cousins was the "old kitchen" with its huge fireplace and comfortable seating, and here is where we spent many a long night catching up on family. What a way to wind down. My cousins want to know when we're returning to Ireland,so that they can come back again to The Place with us. Kevin Forth Prescott, AZ

A relaxing getaway...

A week away was just as I hoped - a quiet, comfortable, quaint house tucked away for peace and quiet to catch up with old friends. The location was beautiful with a path down to the beach for walking and and enjoying the days - either rain or shine. The picnic location at the top of the bluff was great for sitting to watch and listen to the surf, which you could also hear with windows open at night. Information on the local area was readily available from the owner, and it was a great location to make easy day-trips to see the beautiful countryside and some other attractions. The owners were very personable in their correspondence, kept in contact to make sure all was well throughout my stay (without being intrusive), and made sure my stay lived up to my expectations. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here, and I highly recommend this for others looking to get away and enjoy a beautiful slice of the Irish countryside.

Unique Ocean Front Home

Park is an experience beyond a house- It provides a place to really get away- yet be close enough to markets to resupply with ease. We had four adults, two children and spent most of our time on the beach or exploring the grounds. The beach is accessed directly from the property via a gentle series of grass steps. Once on the beach you can walk all the way to the old Coast Guard base- We visited in April and it was sweater weather so we never got to swim- At night we had a fire going in the original kitchen fireplace and it really felt like a trip back in time. The house was historic but at the same time had all the bits you might need. At times I felt like I was living on a movie set- Timeless. The sound of the ocean waves at night-even with the windows closed was epic- We had full sun except for one day- and on that day when the rain came the view of the ocean/sky during the down pour was worth getting wet. Ok so what's bad? Only one thing- as an original home the door heights are for people of a shorter height- I can tell you the height of the doors because I'm 6'2" and kept forgetting to duck... Colin and his staff made everything turn key- If it was not a 6 hour flight I'd rent it a few times a year! We made memories and hope you do as well-

A wonderful cliff top hideaway

This house is a beautiful one. It is a lovely stone farmhouse set just meters from a dramatic cliff and steps leading to what seemed our own private beach. There is an extensive garden surrounded by lovely plants and old ruins. The house was really very well stocked. Unusual for most Irish rentals. Plenty of comfortable chairs and sofas scattered in different areas. All the furniture is aesthetically pleasing and antique. There are plenty of beds. The mattresses and divans are all properly sprung and very comfortable. The linens are all fine cotton and white. There are proper pillows. Meaning they are stuffed with feathers. We had super weather for most of the time but in the evenings the temperature dropped and so we lit the fire. The main living room is cosy and spacious. The kitchen was very well stocked. Plenty of knives and forks and plenty of delph. Everything worked properly. Apart from all that practical info, it really is a lovely place to go and do nothing. The gardens are charming and we swam several times a day on the beach. We also went to the next beach, Clogga Strand, and swam there. We will be back. Thank you to Fleur and Colin.
