What a beautiful property! I was a little unsure because of some of the reviews but they were so few and far apart I figured maybe some people can’t be pleased and I was right! It’s a beautiful log cabin encapsulated by lush woods and a surprisingly rushing creek which we loved. The cabin is clean, spacious and functional. The first cabin I’ve wanted to return to again and again so we’ll be back!
Very disappointed with communication and cleanliness
We were very disappointed with our stay for several reasons. First, the cleanliness of the home was far below what we expected—there were areas that seemed like they hadn’t been cleaned at all. Additionally, the mattresses were extremely uncomfortable, including the pull-out bed, making it difficult to get a good night's sleep. To make matters worse, the host was extremely rude in their text messages, accusing us of bringing two dogs when we only had one, so this accusation was not only incorrect but also added unnecessary stress to our stay. The combination of uncleanliness, uncomfortable beds, and poor communication from the host made our experience far from enjoyable.
Liked the location and the Cabin, for the most part. Only minus was there was an odd smell downstairs near the bathroom and the cabin is a bit out dated. We also had a very hard time sleeping the bed, I am guessing is pretty old and was very loud whenever my husband or I tried to roll over, it would wake us up.
We stayed a few nights and did some hiking around the area. The cabin is clean and surrounded by the sounds of birds and a babbling brook. The tvs only play dvds, no cable or streaming, next time i would bring my roku, but that was okay, we kept busy. It was lovely and I'd stay again.
Bear Den is a real log cabin with modern amenities, right next to a creek, close to the Salmon River, and a short drive to spectacular hiking. It is exactly what I wanted and more for a forest getaway. I’ll be staying here again and again.

Not a dream cabin
The neighborhood was surprising, discarded furniture rotting on the property next to us. Garbage piled.Feels like entering a hoarding zone. Not the best first impression and the beauty of the nature doesn't make up for everything. The house was not clean, clearly only what is visible upon entering was taken care of: general surfaces and vacuuming... maybe. I have picture of a lazy susan that would make you vomit, the stove had burnt encrusted food. One burner didn't work, my husband had to fix it. There is rust all around the refrigerator, the dishwasher was full of clean dishes we had to put away upon arrival. The stove is older than my daughters who are in their thirties, the fridge likely as well. The fireplace is not working very well, the games are all mixed up, for example the Scrabble had pieces from 3 different games all mixed up. The sheets smelled questionable. There are so many rules to follow you feel as if you are in boot camp for the military. The list of garbage not allowed in the garbage disposal should show what is allowed, not what is not, it would be much shorter. If garbage disposal is not a good option for the environment, just remove it. We found out, after reading endless rules posted all around the house that if we arrive on a Wednesday evening we are to hall the recycling left during the previous week to the top of the driveway. We didn't, we saw the rule the next day. The sofa are completely dead, you cannot get up from them. Never again.
Enjoyed our stay while we came up to have fun on the mountain. The house is tucked away with a serene view of the creek and feels in the forest, event though you are minutes from town in a neighborhood.

Nice but...
It would have been great except for the dead animal smell in the downstairs bathroom. It reeked, and obviously this was known before the time we arrived. (Since it had been recently cleaned.)
Since the smell was worse when the fan was on, I suggest that the owner/manager check out the vent: Wish they had elected to do that before we arrived.)
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would stay again. However, with attention to a few details(replace worn-out coffeemaker, thorough dusting of logs, disposal of previous guests’ cigarette butts, replace rusted kitchen sink and broken kitchen light fixtures, replace electrical outlets that no longer hold cords, clean up mouse poop in cabinets and closets) this could really be a first class property.
It seems like an older property, the kitchen appliances are old, not all dimmer switches seemed to dim and were just on/off switches. Dust in between the logs, not sure what you could've done about that, but I do have dust allergies.

Reviewer Comments:
nice home, spacious, private setting but still near shopping, activities. Loved the high end gas grill. Great porch, only a few mosquitos about. Mattresses were only ok, sofa bed really not recommended for any adults. Otherwise quite nice and would def stay again. Starter basket in kitchen very helpful.

Reviewer Comments:
Overall is was good--However I'd not feel right if I didn't point out a few negative items.Kitchen and kitchen appliances & hardware are old and outdated. Some don't work well. No cover over kitchen light made for harsh lighting. Stove area was not very well cleaned and having mouse droppings on the counter and under the sink points to an issue. For the $$ this place should be updated and a rodent plan enacted.Bed and comforters need to be replaced. Dated and kind of gross. While understanding it's a log cabin the rodent intrusion is signifagent. Visible mice (moving around like pets) and droppings make for an unpleasant experience.Furniture is old and dated. TV's are small for this day and age and for the $$ they should be bigger, etc to compete against other properties in the same price point.I did appreciate the location and privacy however cell phone coverage is dismal and should be clearly addressed in the cabin description.I hope you don't take this review negatively but as constructive feedback for the owner. I will recommend to other ski team family's looking for an alternative to Government Camp.

Reviewer Comments:
rented the cabin for Mother's Day weekend. this was the first time my mother had been able to stay over night somewhere for 21 years. Her husband recently passed away after a long health battle. My sister and I planned all the meals to cook so that we could stay in the cabin and play games and scrapbook. However, friday night as we began to cook dinner it became very clear that the stovetop did not work very well. We were only able to get one burner to work. Even though the burner was on it didnt stay heated. We made due using the oven and microwave for as much as we could. Of course that didnt work for cooking eggs. We would love to make this a yearly trip. But only if the stove gets fixed.

Reviewer Comments:
This place was really perfect! 5/5It was exactly what we were looking for - the log cabin experience. The team at MHVR was very communicative and helpful. Everything was ready for us, and the place was immaculately clean! Not a speck of dust anywhere. I was expecting some remnants from past guests or their dogs, but there was none! We were also pleasantly surprised by the babbling creek that runs directly behind the cabin off the back deck. It would have been so peaceful if the weather allowed.A couple things to note, that did not take much away from the experience. We arrived at night, and this place is DARK. The house was lit up just fine (all the lights were on) but the yard and driveway were almost pitch black. It was somewhat tricky to see the driveway, and unloading the car was a challenge. Just something to be aware of - bring a flashlight. Also, directly in front of the front steps is a big puddle of mud, be careful.

It's a very nice place. The bear and flag aren't so overwhelming as in the picture. Could use some gravel near front entrance porch - getting muddy. Everything went smooth.
