Behrends Family Homestead has a rich history that can trace its roots all the way back to the great wave of German immigration. In 1853, Christian H. Behrends was one of many who boarded a ship in Bremen, Germany, heading for the “promised land” right here in Texas. Each adult paid $120 for passage to Texas and a promise of 40 acres of farmland in return. This influx of settlers later became known as the great wave of German immigration, and its legacy is reflected today in Fredericksburg’s German heritage, customs, cuisine and culture.
Each guesthouse on Behrends Family Homestead is named after a family member who spent time cultivating the land and shaping it into what it is today. The Judy is named after the owner’s mother who picked the fruits and vegetables that the family grew. Their organic produce was sold out of their roadside stand on Highway 290 and, in the 1980s, they famously sold their products to the first-ever Whole Foods store (located in Austin).

To ensure a peaceful stay for all guests, we kindly ask that you respect noise levels. A noise monitor is installed to help maintain a quiet environment, and excessive noise may trigger a notification to our customer service team.

*Wood for firepit, champagne, and rose petals are not provided.

Beautiful property, GREAT Location

The Judy was a perfect spot for me and my 2 best friends to stay for our little getaway weekend trip. Located right off the road that leads directly into the main street of Fredericksburg, and is nestled in between 2 wineries that are easy to walk to. Close enough for convenience and easy navigation in a town I am not familiar with, but enough space for the privacy and quiet calm. The check in process was very easy and the hosts were extremely attentive to my questions prior to check in. A+ communication, and nothing beats being able to watch tv in a hot tub after a long day of wining and dining.
