About this property

Charming Artistic Casita in rolling Texas Hill Country

Entering the garden gate, you'll walk under an arbor and pass the chicken coop, the organic garden and enter your own private retreat. We have made every effort to make this retreat as green as possible. Just inside the gate you have a lovely patio shaded by native Live Oaks, another garden area planted with Texas Natives, and a large covered porch with an outdoor dining spot, and a wide bench with cushions. Inside the Casita, which is small and efficient, you have a queen sized bed, a love seat, a kitchen with granite counter tops and equipped with all the basics, an expandable dining table, a closet and a bath with walk in shower. There are handmade tiles installed in the kitchen and the bath. The dinnerware colorful Fiesta ware. We harvest rainwater and use it on the vegetable gardens, and use some for the landscaping. When available, we can supply you with some fresh eggs from the chickens ! We also stock the fridge with organic free trade Coffee and Half & Half to get you started on your day. The hot water heater is tankless on demand, the AC/heater is an energy efficient 18 Seer Mini-Split, and there is a ceiling fan to reduce the need for AC. The floors are hardwood and tile with an area rug in the living area. We use sustainable paper products, bath products and soaps. The furniture and cabinetry was locally sourced and/or reclaimed.
We have 2 fish ponds with Koi and goldfish for you to enjoy.
There is a lap pool on the property, just behind the main house filled with rainwater. You are welcome to use the pool while enjoying the cool water, the flowers and watching the wind generators spin. This is a very relaxing place.

Relaxing little getaway
We had a lovely time at this cute little cottage. The patio was our favorite place to relax and it was perfect for our dog since it was fenced in. We only left once to eat at a super good restaurant recommended by our hostess who came to meet us with her adorable pup. This is a great place to get away from the city and chill!

We had a wonderful stay and would recommend it to anyone. Very relaxing, abundant fresh air and sunshine, yet accessible to all of Austin and the hill country. Lovely host.

We’ll Be Back!
Such a charming cozy casita to tuck into at night and to linger in over coffee in the morning! We attended young grandchildren’s activities and other busy family gatherings in Austin (away from the casita) during the days of our 4-night stay at the casita and looked forward each evening to returning to the quiet that awaited us there! Highly recommend!

Small and Cozy
We enjoyed staying at this property. Claudia is very talented, her pottery was showcased in the cabinets, and on the wall. Unfortunately she was working on a big order and we didn’t get to tour her studio. The place is cute and eclectic. The chickens were friendly and greeted you. Claudia provided farm fresh eggs the first day. Everything was nice except for the towels, smelled a bit like mildew. Other than that, nice stay.

I'm a studio artist and have made my living making pottery, tiles and sculpture since 1981. I taught in universities for a number of years but found that I loved running my own studio. It gives me the freedom to work on my property and add tiles, sculpture, architectural elements, gardens and out buildings.

Why they chose this property

I bought this property because I love Austin and especially this area. When I found it, the cooling breezes seemed to always be blowing. First I built the studio, then my house and pool, and to capture those breezes, I put in a couple of wind turbines. Just recently we finished the Casita which I'm calling CasitAlegre.

What makes this property unique

This 'compound' developed organically. We'd add one building and another just seemed to want to be built. We've been conscious of making it as environmentally green and sustainable as possible. The main house is built with compressed earth blocks, there are many solar panels, and two wind turbines which we've dubbed 'Thing 1 and Thing 2', a vast water collection system, and of course the gardens. So we've been at it for a while, and I still have new ideas of things to build and improve.
When you visit you'll find a wonderful pool for relaxing or swimming, and just outside the gates, good walking routes and great bike routes.
