The owners/hosts (Shawn and Steve) are VERY nice. Due to COVID-19 and the uncertainty surrounding travel, we booked the property late in the game. We prefer lakefront-but we were glad to find a place on relatively short notice that would accommodate our large family. Indeed, it's a spacious home, with plenty of room for a large group. Well stocked kitchen (enough plates, pots, pans, utensils, etc. for cooking for an army).
We noted a few disappointments, though, considering the nightly rate we paid:
The house has a musty / mildew smell throughout, and is therefore would be a concern for anyone with allergies. We were told "no pets allowed because people with allergies rent the home". Allergy sufferers will suffer.
We brought sheets and towels to avoid the additional fee for using those at the house. Because of the smell in the house, we were glad we did.
There wasn't a supply of toilet tissue for the week for a large group. We've rented many cottages over the years and TP stock is pretty standard.
The 'fridge was oddly stocked with someone else's condiments, food, etc. We didn't feel comfortable moving the stuff. We believe the 'fridge should have been empty and wiped clean – especially with COVID.
We were able to rent a pontoon boat for the week and the owners provided a mooring site at an off-site location. We had to awkwardly traipse through private property (other renters) every time we went out on/back from the boat. Fortunately, we weren’t charged for the mooring as we were told nd the other renters were pleasant.
Overall, our expectations were higher given the price of the cottage.
