I rented the home for a "girls weekend" with my daughters before they returned to school. We were delightfully surprised by every aspect of the house! The location is perfect if you want seclusion with the perfect combination of woods/waterfront surrounding you.
As soon as we arrived, we dropped our luggage, threw on our swimsuits and ran to the shore. The water was not ideal for swimming (we should've brought water shoes to better navigate the rocky bottom) but was great fun to explore. There are chairs, a picnic table and a fire pit near the shore that we made use of in the evening while roasting marshmallows.
Most of our time inside the house was spent in the beautiful sun porch. We ate breakfast either outside by the shore or in the sun porch. We played card games there, read, and one of my daughters chose to sleep there! Although there was plenty of room in the house (with two bedrooms and a futon in the living room) the sunroom was the place to catch the best views, relax and listen to the waves roll in.
We used the kitchen mainly for breakfast and found it to be clean and supplied with everything we needed. There was a sponge provided for dishes but I brought my own dishwashing/drying supplies.
While on Washington Island, we had a wonderful time at Schoolhouse Beach (should've brought those water shoes!), the Stavkirke and Mountain Park Lookout Tower. We grabbed ice cream at Albatross, sandwiches at The Danish Mill and delicious pizza at Island Cafe and Bread Co. We took the ferry over to Rock Island and spent a couple of hours hiking around and marveling at Thordarson's Boathouse. As much fun as we had traveling around, it was always great getting back to the house at the end of the day. Our time there was precious, serene, beautiful island time.
