West End Cottage is a traditional flint fisherman’s cottage in Sheringham, having been built in the 1870s and extended in the 1960s, and is a short stroll from the town’s original fishing slopes. This end-terraced property was built originally for one of the oldest fishing families in the area. Constructed from the flint found in abundance on the shores, this must have been a substantial and comfortable home for the times, for what was an up and coming fish merchant and his extended family.
There are colourful rumours about how West End Cottage was linked to smuggling, but rest assured that all is now above board and sitting pretty, ready for a great holiday. You will find yourself so close to the sea that quite literally at the end of the street upon which West End Cottage is situated, there is the old lifeboat the Henry Ramey Upcher. In fact, you are just a few steps from both Sheringham’s glorious beach (a section of which is lifeguard supervised in high season) and its pretty town centre. There are so many things to see and do, and places to eat and drink that you may be tempted to park in one of the property’s two private, on-site parking spaces and stay put in Sheringham, where you can even take a steam train ride along the coast on the North Norfolk Railway.
Sheringham boasts a host of popular events throughout the year, as does its neighbour Cromer, where you will find a unique Edwardian promenade, pier, the Amazona Zoo and cinema. Close by also lies Sheringham Park with over 1,000 acres to explore, a must see for walkers and nature lovers alike. Venture a little further and find yourself in Norwich in under an hour and at the gateway to the Norfolk Broads in 45 minutes. The North Norfolk Coast is of course also a must for avid bird watchers, and sea angling is available nearby. Sheringham Golf Course is widely regarded as one of the most scenic courses in the country, so don’t forget your clubs. There really is so much to do that you will be so glad you chose West End Cottage to relax and unwind in after a busy day, maybe by the multi-fuel burner or in warmer seasons in the lovely enclosed, private garden where you can relax to the sound of the waves on the pebbles. Bliss! Beach 100 yards. Shop and pub 250 yards, restaurant 100 yards. Town electric car charging points 100 yards.

Fab cottage in a great location, had everything you needed, 2 parking spaces which was handy, never had to use the car as so near to it all, would certainly book this cottage again, the people that own it live the other side of Sheringham and said any problems to contact them but we had no problems what so ever, great cheeky week away!

Westend cottage.

Our stay at the cottage was a great experience. From the warm greeting from the owners. To the accommodation which was first class. It was situated close to the sea and all amenities. We will certainly be going back.

The location of this cottage was super.

The location of this cottage was super. It took a few minutes to get to the beach and the shops which was ideal for our family and the beach had pebbles and sand meaning we didn't need to go anywhere else. There is lots to do in the local area: parks, a zoo, seal watching etc, ideal in good weather or bad. The cottage had stairgates for which we were grateful as our 2 year old would have had problems with the steep stairs. The welcome pack was lovely and the cottage served us well enough. Parking was a bonus, the bike shed was good and the kitchen area was lovely. We had a great week.

This is a lovely cottage in a quiet location but within a few minutes walk to the sea front, shops and local places to eat. Everything had been provided to enhance our stay and the welcome pack was a nice bonus. We enjoyed sitting in the garden listening to and watching the local birdlife. Having off road parking made a big difference. We would recommend this cottage to anyone wanting to visit Sheringham and explore the area.

We were new to Sheringham and all the local attractions but we loved the location, West End Cottage

We were new to Sheringham and all the local attractions but we loved the location, West End Cottage could not be more central and yet still very private and quiet. The Cottage has lots of charm in the modern kitchen we had everything we needed and upstairs the most comfortable King size bed and two bathrooms. We had the most relaxing evenings in the lounge with the log burner keeping us very warm we loved the holiday, the cottage, and location all require further visits

Clean well equipped and perfectly located.

Clean well equipped and perfectly located. We were personally welcomed by our hosts who clearly take great pride in and care for West End Cottage. The cottage is in a quiet street very close to both beach and town. Parking for two cars is also a bonus. The welcome pack (scones, biscuit, jam, wine etc) was a lovely touch and much appreciated. An added bonus was that our holiday coincided with 1940's weekend - a great asset to the town and a great spectacle too. We'd certainly come here again.

We took a chance on a newly listed cottage that had no reviews, thinking that it looked very nice on

We took a chance on a newly listed cottage that had no reviews, thinking that it looked very nice on the pictures and it was in the area we wanted to be with a car parking space. We are so glad we took that chance, what a brilliant find, it was just what we wanted, we were two couples one of which prefer twin beds so the bedrooms were ideal. We met the owners when we arrived checking that everything was in order with the house, what lovely people, they showed us how to use the heating system and told us that they had laid the fire in the front room and all we needed to do was put a match to it if we wanted it lit, we asked them where the nearest pubs etc were and they gave us directions wished us a nice stay and told us that any problems to ring them on the mobile number they had left on a welcome card and they left us to it. There was everything you could want in this lovely old cottage, a lovely and very welcome touch was fresh milk left in the fridge and a lovely little basket of goodies including some little bottles of wine, scones and some absolutely delicious chocolate covered ginger biscuits there was also tea, coffee, herbal teas and sugar provided along with a lovely welcome card and some beautiful fresh flowers and a jug of daffodils we all thought this was a lovely touch. The bedroom with the double bed was a lovely spacious room and the bed was huge and very comfortable with lovely quality bedding, the twin room although not as spacious had a nice ensuite bathroom, there were lovely good quality fluffy white towels for each of us left neatly on the beds. In the main bathroom there was a shower over the bath and what a good idea to have a squeegee for cleaning excess water from the shower screens and tiles. The front room was comfortable and cosy and it was nice to have some books about local history etc on the coffee table and the bird book as there were lots of feathered visitors to the garden at the back of the house where there were bird tables and full feeders, it was lovely to see them whilst in the kitchen area. The big table in the kitchen diner area is a great size for game playing as well as eating, there are all the pots, pans and cutlery you could need, a dishwasher and if needed a washing machine. We couldn't think of anything else that you could possibly need as there were a good selection of games and DVDs for wet weather or evenings. There is car parking which is a big bonus, it say for two cars but I would say that depends on the size of the car, we were in a big car and really wouldn't have wanted to try and get another in at the side. The cottage is well placed for all the amenities you could want, it is literally 5 minutes walk if that to the sea and about 8-10 minutes to the shops, pubs and restaurants, the steam railway is 15-20 minutes walk so everything in easy reach. There is a lovely walk past the boat lake and past the golf course along the cliff to Weybourne and back that has lovely views and is well worth doing. There is not a bad thing to say about this lovely little cottage with an interesting history, it was a fabulous find that we all enjoyed and we will definitely be back.
