The property was in a very quiet area with lots of wildlife around. The house was clean and well furnished. There was not a dishwasher that would have been nice but not necessary. The home appeared to be a prefab home but it was a nice place for a short visit with our son and grandsons.
We had an excellent stay here. The house is in a perfect location just outside of Custer. At dusk and dawn, there was abundant wildlife; everybody loved watching the deer. The house was very clean and very cozy, and communication with the owner was spot on. The neighbor was super friendly; my granddaughter immediately loved her. It's a great place close to all the attractions in the Black Hills.
We absolutely loved the views in the backyard and the deer that would come to visit through out our stay. Nice safe neighborhood and only a few miles from town so we couldn’t have asked for more!

Great location! Close to all the activities we wanted to do. Daun was a super nice host, great time 👍
The house was great for our family - 4 adults and 4 kids. Quiet location up in the hills, quick trip to town. The house had everything we needed and we loved being able to sit on the porch and watch the deer!
Nice relaxing area and outdoor space. Quiet! Great place to stay to go places around Custer State Park. Very good kitchen set up for those who like to cook.
We all had such a great experience with Duan's property. There was all amenities needed to enjoy the weeklong stay. Everything was neat and tidy.
Thank you Duan we would definitely come back again!

We had a wonderful stay. We accidentally chose to be in the black hills during the opening weekend of the Sturgis Rally. We were so glad to have a private, quiet place to return to each evening. Close to Custer for breakfast/dinner. Close to Custer State Park. A great place to use as a home base to enjoy all the hills have to offer. Well stocked kitchen and comfortable living spaces. We can't wait to come back.
We came into town to watch the roundup. With my mom and father in law. We enjoyed ourselves. Only suggestion is to kill the wasps. House smelled a little dated or unused. Towel rack kept falling off in one bathroom. It was nice and peaceful location and loved seeing all the deer every night

Worn out, smells bad, and in need of maintenance
I have never been compelled to submit a negative review before, but am doing for the benefit of other potential guests.
Unfortunately, this property was not as described, or as the pictures showed. It was very worn, and although not dirty - it was very much in need of attention in many areas. The home has a bad odor, that was explained to be because of well water. While that is common with well water, it was not the only or perhaps even, the primary bad odor in the home. The use of fragrance tools to overcome the odor also added to the offensive odor. Old and not clean pillows on the beds. Old bedding shoved in the closets to the point of not being able to hang clothes in the closet. Unsealed window airconditioner allowed a large amount of stink bugs inside. Large splinters on the rotten wood front porch. Holes in the walls ... I could go on and on. I invited 4 family members to join me for vacation and was incredibly embarassed by my choice of this property. I was prepared that it was remotely located, a mobile home that was previously a lived in home. However, the description and the photos shown - were not reflective of reality. When I contacted Daun, she was sorry that I wasn't happy - but offered no relief. She also forwarded a text message stream where someone referred to me as a pain in the ass. This property would be parallel to a stay at a roadside motel - Motel 6.
Nice location, centrally located for the sights. Grocery store and fuel only a short distance. Quiet neighborhood. Lots of wildlife. Great communication with the owner. House wasn't quite as secluded as I had assumed from the pictures, but it worked out fine. Our time was restful and renewing.
We were very happy with our stay in this cabin. It has some great amenities, such as the propane grill and an excellent fire pit. It was conveniently stocked with many useful items. The interior was rustic and tasteful. Overall, it was a comfortable stay. We would recommend this property to anyone looking to stay in Custer.
We enjoyed this property. Daun was very responsive and communicated well before and during our stay. The property had 3 bedrooms as listed which worked well for me and my family for the week. The kitchen was fully stocked. The place was about 7 minutes off the main road, but close to Custer and close to Custer State Park. It is an older home and it had a distinct smell when you walk in, but you got used to it and it wasn't overbearing. The place was cozy, and met our needs for the week!
We really enjoyed our stay at Walking in the woods. The house was very comfortable with plenty of room for our family. Most everything we needed to cook was available including the gas grill. We communicated several times with Daun before our arrival, and she was very helpful answering all of our questions. Our
favorite part was sitting on the back patio and watching the deer cross the beautiful property. Lots of privacy. We also enjoyed making s’mores in the fire pit. We will definitely stay here again when we come back to the Custer area.
We really enjoyed staying here. My boyfriend and I were excited to be able to find something last minute as the original place we had booked was canceled, the day before our vacation started, due to snow. Daun was great, answering my questions quickly and checking to make sure things were going well the first day. The house is nice and homey. The beds were okay to sleep on, a little uncomfortable and the bugs (expected in the mountains) were in odd places such as inside the dryer and bed but it is fall. The property is out on a dirt road that was easy to get to in our car. Houses are closer than we originally thought but the backyard is set farther back so you do have privacy and the deer came pretty closer to us and the house. The house is located perfectly, we went everywhere and enjoyed coming back to relax at the end of the day. We grilled most nights, the grill was pretty dirty and old but usable after a good cleaning. Had a great vacation and thoroughly enjoyed the house. Thanks Daun!
Came to Custer to go on the hot air balloon. This location was excellent, close enough to run into town if we needed something.. House was clean and has everything you will need. Host was quick to answer any questions.
This is a very nice property! It's clean, nicely decorated, comfortable with plenty of plush seating, and everything we needed to enjoy our trip right at our fingertips. Beds were great and all was in good working order. Daun was very responsive to our every request. She was a great hostess!
We ate and played games at the two tables outdoors next to the grill, one of which is under a covered patio. Deer visited twice daily! We enjoyed the meals and smores on the firepit two nights, with beautiful mountain rocks for seating.
The property is close to everything, but also tucked away in the countryside. We would definitely return and highly recommend this property in the Black Hills.
The home was perfect with plenty of room for our three teenage grandsons. One grilled burgers and corn on the cob with the provided gas grill. We all enjoyed the tame deer that visited and a hike on the hill behind the property. We did a lot of hiking and site seeing, so didn't spend much time at the house. It would be the perfect place to just relax. Beautiful night skies. Host was in contact to be sure we had what we needed. Great place and I highly recommend it.
The Custer area is beautiful. The property was easy to find, and under 10 minutes to get into town and into the park.
The host is great and responsive. The house is comfortable with space inside and out. The pictures are accurate of the home. One random thing, and I never asked, but bring your own water for drinking (strange taste).
Otherwise, nice place.
Our family, 2 adults, adult son and 12 year old daughter loved the peaceful, dirt road location in a subdivision with more deer than neighbors! This home is very well taken care of and had all the amenities we could need. Two bedrooms at one end for the kids and the master at the other end allowed enough privacy for everyone, and we had all the creature comforts with Satellite TV and WiFi. Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and Custer State Park with beautiful scenic and wildlife drives, as well as the Wind Cave are all close by. The town of Custer is also very close and had all the supplies, dining and shopping we needed. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The host is wonderful! Very quick to respond and goes above and beyond to accomodate! Thank you!!

My parents have owned this amazing getaway for more than 20 years. I recently purchased it from them to allow us to keep it in the family when it became too much for them to manage.
Why they chose this property
It's a beautiful property on 2 acres. The location is perfect to enjoy all that the Black Hills has to offer. It also holds 20+ years of memories for me, my family, and my friends. It's truly a special place and I can't wait to share it with you.
What makes this property unique
My property backs up to the Black Hills in a quiet neighborhood outside of Custer. The house has almost every amenity that you could desire. The deer come right up to the back door. The location is ideal for visiting Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park, The Mickelson Trail, Rapid City, Deadwood, Sturgis, etc, etc, etc.
