This cottage is a perfect getaway! Plan your summer vacation in Traverse City on beautiful South Lake Leelanau or contact us for extended stay opportunities in the off-season. You will love this updated cottage, just 8 miles from downtown Traverse City, a short drive to either Suttons Bay or Leland, and less than 30 minutes to Sleeping Bear Dunes. The kitchen was completely renovated in 2020 with new flooring, appliances, cabinets, Corian counters, and stainless sink. This cottage accommodates 6 guests, with 3 bedrooms (1 king and 2 queen beds) and 1 large bathroom. GUESTS MUST SUPPLY THEIR OWN SHEETS, TOWELS AND PAPER PRODUCTS.) Lake Leelanau has 23 miles of crystal clear water to explore and enjoy! It is ideal for swimming, boating, water sports and fishing. The cottage also offers air conditioning, gas fireplace, gas grill, picnic table, patio table and chairs, great room, dining room with seating for 6, snack bar for 2, gas range, dishwasher, microwave, full size refrigerator/freezer, large TV with Roku player, and wifi. All of this is located at West Wind Resort with 400 feet of lake frontage. The spacious resort property offers a playground for children, a basketball court, volleyball and plenty of space for other activities. There are 3 shared fire pits located on the water's edge, as well as a gazebo. The cottage is located 200' off of the water, you must cross the private resort driveway to access the water.

Wedding

We were very pleased with the cottage location to Traverse City, other relatives, and the wedding venue. Easy to find. It was exceptionally clean, very open floor plan, tons of space, lots of windows, bright. Boys played Xbox and watched football. It worked out perfect for the 5 of us each having our own place to sleep. Neighborhood was very quiet for a holiday weekend. Would definitely recommend.

Great location, just a bit dirty

Cottage could be great with a little bit of cleaning, TLC, and washing of comforters between guest. Putting sheets on the king bed and we noticed boogers on the comforter.. which is disgusting and let us know that they do not wash their comforters in between guest. Second bedrooms mattress topper was so bumpy. Horribly dirty underneath beds, like it has never been cleaned. Dead flys on walls, under tables, chairs. Lots of ants and cobwebs that have been in places for awhile. Not sure they clean in between guests as there was dirty dishes in the dishwasher, crumbs on floor, trash in bathroom trash can. With a little effort cleaning between guests, washing comforters, getting rid of bugs and tlc it could be great as the location is great.

Couples Get-a-way

Had a great week exploring the Leelanau Peninsula. Wineries, music, Fish Town. But came back to this cozy cottage every night for dinner, sunsets, and campfire. Northern lights were a great bonus!! It was the perfect home base.

Lots of space, great location

We love staying at West Winds. This year we upgraded from the small cottages to cottage #9 and were so grateful for the extra space. The house was clean and modern, beds were super comfortable, kitchen well-stocked. We loved the open floor plan and the big dining room table. Used the fireplace on one chilly evening as well. We had one small issue with the toilet, but Joe was able to come take care of it right away. Of course, the location is wonderful! Kids enjoyed the beach and the outdoor space. This has been our preferred vacation spot for several years, and we will definitely rent Joe & Mary’s place again!

Weekend Getaway

Overall nice place and location, we rented a house few houses down from this location few years ago and really liked area, being on the water and so close to Traverse City, also the winery’s. House was nice size and clean. The only thing I wish was the house was on the water, according to Description it was. Also the house didn’t have A/C, it was slightly humid that weekend so that would have been nice. Will definitely be back to area would definitely consider coming back to this resort .

Great Girl's Getaway

Great time

We loved our time here - of note, it is a little offset from the water, and you have to walk between other cabins to get to the beach. Also, the interior was well-kept and clean, but the outdoor seating was full of spiders/spider webs that we needed to clean off. Otherwise, this location and reservation was everything we wanted/needed!

Fantastic time, great location, active family.

5 adults and one grandchild. The house is not directly on lake yet you could see. We enjoyed the privacy. I am mentioning this because we had a 4 year old. The description does mention road yet it is the driveway for the cottages. So speed is not an issue and not concerned once. Very quiet. My son had a class each morning on wi- fi, he’s a teacher. So-wi- fi was great. Kitchen had everything you needed. The space was awesome. Plenty of space in living room when we were chillin later in day. We rented a pontoon boat for several days which was fun. Take the channel to Leeland, park your boat and enjoy town. We brought kayaks so we could enjoy those anytime. The bike trail is nearby so we rode several times. Paved trail. Go to Sutton’s Bay or down to Traverse City which we did both. Great for running as well. The sandy beach was perfect for our 4 year old grandson. He’d play there for hours. We enjoyed the fire pit as well. No worries if you need to do laundry, Sutton’s Bay is close. Put your laundry in, take a bike ride, walk or run in the trail or go to the nature preserve. Trail less than a block from laundry mat.

Great place, great location. Owners were available for any questions. Only draw back is the cabin is across the property from the waterfront so you need to cut between other cabins to access the water. The playground in the resort needs a serious update. Wood is splitting and rotten, my husband pulled 3 rusty nails out to avoid kids getting scrapped by them when climbing and the sandbox under the slide had a broken glass beer bottle in it... dangerous !! It is just in need of some routine maintenance. But aside from the west winds property, cabin #9 was great !!

Girl's Weekend!

We all very much enjoyed our stay here at West Winds Resort. I was slightly worried about the fact that we were across the street rather than directly on the water but it was a one-minute walk to get to the lovely gazebo that was right on the bay to watch the ducks splashing around in the morning. The three bedrooms were perfect for us six girls. The location is just magnificent if you're wanting to spend time at some vineyards or in downtown TC. We would definitely consider coming back here!

Clean, Comfortable, Convenient

My friends and I had a great stay at Mary's cabin. The place was recently renovated and is well furnished for groups of 6-8. Everything was clean when we arrived and the beds were very comfortable. We also enjoyed it's proximity to downtown Traverse City while still feeling like we were out in nature. Would definitely stay again!

Very nice place!

We enjoyed are stay very nice house. We only had one issue and it was the water smelled like rotten eggs. We spoke to someone outside and they said it was because the well needed salt added and they were glad we said something. But other than that the place was awesome and we would stay again.

We are both natives of Northern Michigan -- Joe growing up in Leelanau County and Mary in Traverse City. We moved away from the area for about 20 years after high school, but moved back "home" in 2000 to raise our two children, Emma and Mitch. (There's nowhere better to raise a family!)

While the area has changed and grown in the past several decades, we love that it still retains what makes Northern Michigan so special -- pristine beaches, endless hiking and biking trails, and views that continue to take our breath away on a daily basis. We wouldn't live anywhere else!

Why they chose this property

We were immediately impressed by West Winds Resort! First of all, it is situated on our favorite part of Lake Leelanau (the sunset side!). Secondly, the string of 11 cottages are so sweet! Each has shutters unique to their cottage and all are meticulously maintained, as is the entire property. We were struck by how quiet and private the resort felt -- the perfect spot to get away from it all!

What makes this property unique

The cottages sit well off the road with a large grassy area complete with a great play structure and basketball hoop. There is also room to part boat trailers. The beach is great and adjoins a mini-marina (each cottage is allotted one slip). A gazebo and two fire pits add to the charm, as does a small fish-cleaning station.
