This wonderful example of a detached, single-storey, converted barn, adjacent to the owner’s home, dates back to circa 1810, and sits within the Hafod Forestry Commission Estate, which is a picturesque landscape occupying about 500 acres of the Ystwyth Valley and surrounding hills, some 15 miles inland from the Ceredigion coastline. Lovingly converted by the craftsman owner, Pendre Isa is an extremely spacious and beautifully furnished property for two people, boasting its own private decked terrace from where you can relax and enjoy the views and watch the red kites and buzzards circling overhead. From the doorstep of the barn, the estate can be explored on foot (maps are available for the five way-marked walks of varying length and difficulty) where there are streams, waterfalls and rustic bridges to discover. It provides an excellent base for exploring and taking part in activities such as canoeing, mountain biking, horse riding and walking, or just relaxing in a ‘get away from it all’ location. Nearby attractions include Devils Bridge, first built by monks in the 11th century and from where you can take the Vale of Rheidol steam train that meanders through the valley to the seaside town of Aberystwyth, the Silver Mountain Experience, an 18th-century silver-rich lead mine, and the Magic of Life Butterfly House. A 30-minute drive will bring you to the attractive coastline and all that it has to offer. An ideal holiday base. Beach 15 miles. Pub/restaurant is 4 miles away. Supermarkets are in Aberystwyth 12 miles away. Some guests like to pre order groceries to be delivered.

Wonderful cottage, this was our second visit. probably shouldn't praise it too highly or we may not be able to book it again. So quiet here, hardly saw anyone which is exactly we wanted. Cottage has everything we needed and was warm and cosy. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo

This was our third time at Pendre Isaf and it won't be our last.

This was our third time at Pendre Isaf and it won't be our last. If you're looking for night-life, restaurants or even a pub on the doorstep, you will be disappointed. But, if like us, you're looking for a comfortable and cosy 'home' in a peaceful and stunningly beautiful setting, you'll certainly find it at Pendre Isaf. I just wish I didn't have to tell you about it!

Best place we've stayed in so far.

Best place we've stayed in so far. Just loved it & didn't want to leave. Quality accommodation. Everything you need for a holiday with catering for yourself. Excellent base for exploring the awesomely beautiful area. Great walks on the estate too. Plenty of things to see and do nearby too. A real home from home. Loved the silence and darkness. The welcome pack of Welsh cakes and wine was lovely too. Would definitely love to come back and stay again. Loved seeing all the red kites, they made my day, daily.

Away from it all location, stunning scenery and great walking.

Away from it all location, stunning scenery and great walking. The garden is secure( maybe not if smaller than a jack Russell) with plenty of seating. The Barn is well equipped. We found the bed rather hard, but that is a personal thing. Aberystwyth is the nearest town with a decent selection of shops.

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at Pendre Isaf on the Hafod Estate.

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at Pendre Isaf on the Hafod Estate. The location was just what we needed (a complete break for the week). There was NO mobile phone reception, but there was a payphone in the house though and internet connection (be aware that wi-fi call did not work for us - vodafone but may of others) albeit only about 6mb. Enough of the technology. The property was well equiped and although it was looking a little tired (the property next door that sleeps six looked like it had been renovated recently), it was a lovely hideaway for two and we would go back again in a shot. This is a holiday property for those interested in getting out and exploring the the walks and trails in the area. There are many well maintained tracks and paths on the estate. If you are looking for eating places, then the hotel at Devil's Bridge is certainly a place to head to. We had our dog with us and he loved the walks, water and chilling on the the terrace outside. One suggestion for the owners/website information is to supply a GPS location to the house as it is alittle confusing following the signs. Also, be aware that you access the cottage via a forest track and it is not suitable for "low slung" vehicles. Ordinary vehicles can negotiate the tracks but with care.

We used the cottage as a base to attend our daughter's graduation from Aberystwyth university.

We used the cottage as a base to attend our daughter's graduation from Aberystwyth university. The Hafod estate is stunning and walker's dream. The estate is about 30mins from Aberystwyth and pretty remote which we wanted. The Elan Valley is also easy to get to over the mountain road and great for walking and mountain biking. The barn was very comfortable and owner very friendly. It's well equipped and is spacious for two people. The owner allows dogs in the property and as none dog owners we could tell without being told. To be fair to the owner it clearly states dogs are allowed and its ideal for dog walking. Even with the telltale signs dogs had been in the property, it didn't spoil our stay. If you like remote, stunning scenery and walks, peace and quiet and a well equipped holiday let. This is a great property.

If you dont mind the isolation and the fact that there is no supermarket next door, then this is the place to stay. All the comforts you need after a day of walking. (A dish washer would be nice though, I always seem too end up at the sink.) Another wonderful week in Hafod. Back again in November.
