About this property
LONDON 40MINS: IMMACULATE COUNTRY HOUSE - REGENCY PERIOD - COBHAM, SURREY
The Grange is nestled in the stunning Surrey Hills, minutes from the bustling local villages of Cobham and Esher with good restaurants and pubs including The Ivy Brasserie and The Plough Inn, and with amenities such as the Everyman Cinema and Waitrose supermarkets. It is also just 40 minutes by train to central London.
The property is a substantial Regency-period (circa 1750) country residence wrapped in 16 acres of grassy fields with far-reaching and uninterrupted views across the Surrey greenscape . The house is a triple-storey, white-rendered, gothic-inspired, gabled period property newly renovated to exacting standards. It comprises: period hallway with elegant stairwell, original plaster-work ceiling and fireplace; double-height dining room with period plaster-work ceiling and fireplace; double-ended drawing room with two log fireplaces; new kitchen in modern style with AGA oven and flag-stone floors; study; and modern TV room with surround sound overlooking the gardens. The principle bedrooms are laid out on the first floor comprising: a large en suite bedroom with super-king bed; and two substantial children’s bedrooms newly decorated in contemporary style with king-size beds. On the top floor two additional rooms have four single beds available with a separate bathroom and extra kitchen.
The grounds are both modern and traditional. A significant re-structure in 2016 created a prairie style garden that is well-stocked and maintained with floral and grass interest from Spring to Autumn. This contemporary garden is juxtaposed with a more traditional semi-walled kitchen garden with: quality glasshouse; floral cutting gardens; oak raised beds; attractive garden sheds; petanque pitch; and open-air swimming pool. Dotted around are a number of exceptional mature tress including an enormous tulip tree, the largest in the UK (we are told), an ancient mulberry tree and a vast cedar tree. In the garden there is an old tennis court (now used for basketball) and a younger children’s treehouse and swing-set.
Country walks are direct from the house into Bookham Common, a large ancient woodland managed by the National Trust. Two excellent pubs are within walking distance from the house - 40 mins approximately depending how slow or fast the walkers are!
The location is equidistant between both the A3 (Cobham or Oxshott junctions) and the M25 (J9), roughly 10 minutes from either. Train service is 40 minutes to Waterloo station from Cobahm/Stoke D’Abernon station, which is approximately 4 minutes from The Grange. Please note that due to the proximity to the M25 there can be road noise outside the house during the wetter months of the year.
