The towns of Pine and Strawberry are a little over a half hour away with many fun and interesting attractions. Here is some additional information about other local outdoor activities:
Tonto Natural Bridge is an impressive stone formation located just north of Payson. The entrance to the park is about 10 miles north of Payson along highway 897. There are two paths down. The bridge itself is an amazing site with a stream passing underneath and waterfalls pouring from above. The park also features other hiking trails, picnic areas and a gift shop.
Fossil Springs and fossil Creek area little know wonders of the rim country of central Arizona. As this scenic canyon approaches the base of the Mogollon Rim, it suddenly transforms from a rather typical high desert canyon to an amazing water wonderland. Railroad Tunnel Trail TR390. Go north trough Whispering pines past the first fork in the road (keep going straight) until you come to the next road that turns right on FR32 (see sign to Washington Park). Drive about 5 miles on gravel road to Washington Park trailhead parking lot. Once on the trail, watch for small sign on the trail that goes to the right up a steeper climb to the railroad tunnel. After resting at the tunnel, you can conyinue your hike to the top of the rim. There you will will a historical marker that describes the battle of Big Dry Wash where 16 to 27 warriors were killed. If you follow the road 1 mile further north you come to General Springs Cabin which was built in 1918 and used for man years ass a fire guard station. Total hike from the parking lot is about 3 hours. Take water to drink and wear good shoes.

Great Cabin for big families

We had a great time in this spacious cabin, we saw elk around the property, hiked nearby trails along the river, grilled, played games and really enjoyed staying at this cabin, will definitely plan another trip here during the summer.

Fantastic Snowy Getaway

Wanted a quick, weekend getaway to enjoy the newly fallen snow and this beautiful property didn't disappoint. So much to do from exploring the property, swing from the tree, adventure over to the tree house or just relax indoors and enjoy the beautiful mountain view. Short, beautiful drive from Payson if you need to pop into town for anything. The perfect weekend getaway.

A Perfect Get-Away

The cabin was clean and had almost everything we needed - I would only recommend bringing chip-clips (if you are a chip eating family). The kids loved the property! And I loved being able to watch them play in the snow while staying warm inside. While we didn't see any wildlife on the property we did see elk and cattle while driving around. We also caught crawfish at Tonto Natural Bridge (we put them back after a few pictures). I loved the turkeys that were next door, if they heard the kids playing they would "gobble" at them. Very clean and spacious. The pellet stove was easy to use and warmed the place up particularly if you put the ceiling fans on low. Would stay here again.

Great place for a family getaway

This place is great for adults and kids/teenagers. The upstairs has two sets of bunkbeds and a full bathroom, plus a table where everyone can set down their belongings. The downstairs has two nice size bedrooms and a fully equipped kitchen. The entire property is spacious, interesting and fun to explore. We stayed toasty with the pellet burning stove and heating system in the living room. Had a great time and we’ll definitely be back. Thank you!

My family and I brought in 2025 in the cabin there were 9 of us plenty of room for everyone. It was pretty cold because if we turned on the heater at the top all the heat would go up to the kids and sweat them out the space heaters work best close to you during this time of year on the bottom floor. Overall it was nice the kids enjoyed themselves they got to see the local wildlife.

Perfect family vacation

My family had such a good time at this cabin. They had everything you need it for a fun family getaway, including wood for a fire and Marshmello holders to make s’mores. They also had a list of places to go hiking, and we found a fun little hike and swimming area, the children really enjoyed the treehouse and lookout area

Beautiful Log Cabin

We had a wonderful stay at this cabin. We loved the trampoline, tree swing, hammock, and tree house in the yard to make this a unique experience. The cabin is nice and spacious. Check-in/out were very smooth and easy. It was a nice escape from the Phx heat for a few days. I would definitely stay here again.

Great trip!

We stayed at this cabin over 4th of July week. It was perfect for us and another family to share. The kids loved the sleeping loft and all the activities- darts and ping pong, splashing in the water feature, the treehouse, etc. It was pretty warm that week but the portable ac units for each room made everything comfortable.
