About this property

Enjoy the rugged natural beauty of the Haliburton Highlands, in comfort.

• Charming, comfortable 3 bedroom home
• Situated on a beautiful, clean, quiet, canoe lake
• Private dock
• Private, partially treed and partially sunny lakefront property
• Free WiFi, unlimited usage , suitable for remote work / working from home

This year-round home sits on the north shore of Deer Lake and enjoys 90 metres / 296 feet of private, south facing pristine waterfront.

Deer Lake is located in the ruggedly beautiful Haliburton Highlands, minutes from Algonquin Park. There is no marina on this lake.

Approximately one half (46%) of the land abutting Deer Lake is unceded, crown land. It is a clean, quiet canoe lake.

Star gaze at a spectacular night sky that is free of light pollution year round. Fall asleep listening to the call of loons on the lake in the summer.

This all-season home is clean, well-maintained and newly re-decorated with new furniture, freshly painted walls, new floors and new window coverings. The dishes, cutlery, pots and pans in the kitchen are new as well.

The eat-in kitchen is bright and sunny. The living room windows are nearly floor to ceiling and face east and south over the lake. Virtually all one can see is a beautiful view of the lake and the unoccupied land on the opposite shore.

The house is solidly built with a field stone foundation and stone porch overlooking the lake. A furnace provides adjustable heat for warm and comfortable winter visits.

The half-acre grounds are treed except for a generous sunny grassed area around the house. There are no other visible cottages or neighbours, although adjacent, year-round neighbours are close by.

The dock ends with a conversational sitting area in the sun.

Many people choose this location expressly for the privacy and quiet afforded. We ask that guests please be respectful and do not make excessive noise.

Just what an ex-pat needs

Cottage country, in the fall. Perfect. This was a perfect property for myself and a friend to reconnect, cook food, go for walks, and a paddle in the beautiful quiet lake. I admit to packing more cold weather clothes than we actually needed, that's how fair the weather ended up. The cottage was well equiped for our days and nights together and I wish we had even more time - it was quiet, clean, had many more thoughtful amenities than any other I've experienced. We'll be back!

great place to get away from it all

We really liked the location of the property - it's private and peaceful as described in the listing. Roz is super helpful and provides A LOT of detailed information! The place itself is simply furnished, but it's got everything you need for a get-away (we particularly liked the supplies in the pantry behind the kitchen). All in all, a great place to escape from it all!

Deer lake is great!

Nice cottage with great view of Deer Lake. Very comfortable, private, clean place without being to fancy. Very quiet lake with lovely water and south view. Could have a better area for hanging out if you had more that a few people but came with all you need for a good stay.

Beaufiful Locatioin

Great location on a quiet lake with loons. Enjoyed the use of the canoe and kayak. Also enjoyed diving off the raft. Good hiking in the area. Some of our party did the trail rides at South Algonquin. While it rained quite q bit our wee there, we still had three nights where the stars were out in abundance. Also at least two hummingbirds were using the feeder. Very confortable cottage. Would go back again.

Very peaceful and relaxing place

This was our second time staying at the cottage, and just like last year, we absolutely loved it. A year ago, we fell in love with the lake and the location of the place. It's super quiet, out of the way, almost no motorboats, and we would hardly see anyone for days! This is a perfect spot if you look for solitude, peace, and quiet. The cottage is super comfortable and very well equipped, so you can find everything you need. And Roz is absolutely amazing, and a wonderful host. We highly recommend it, and we hope to return!

Deer Lake is a very dear lake

If you're looking for a quiet retreat on a lovely property overlooking a peaceful lake, this is it! The cottage is immaculate, nicely redecorated and has beautiful views of Deer Lake. The kitchen is well-stocked, the beds are very comfortable, and the owner, Roz, is meticulous in her preparation for your arrival. She scores a 10 out of 10 in terms of attention to detail, integrity, and sincerity in offering her guests the relaxing break they're looking for. The hiking in the area is superb, especially High Falls in Algonquin (the area had received a lot of rainfall prior to our arrival and the waterfall was dramatic to say the least). We also really appreciated hopping into the canoe available on site to explore Deer Lake and its islands. The western and southern shores are mainly Crown land--it's like going on a canoe trip without the hassle of portaging or searching for a campsite at the end of the day. We're already looking forward to our return!

Very peaceful and relaxing place

We truly enjoyed spending a week at this cottage. The place is clean, spacious, and offers everything you need to have a great time. The kitchen is fully equipped, with a big table, and big windows allowing for wonderful views of the lake. Bedrooms offer comfortable beds and plenty of storage. The living room is spacious, with a great view of the lake. The outside is very private, and we hardly saw or heard our neighbors. At times we felt like the lake was only to ourselves, especially during weekdays. It does get a bit busier with motorboats and other cottagers over weekends, but I still think that the amount of commotion is very little compared to what one can experience on the other lakes. A big part of the lake is crown land, with little to no cottages. Therefore it does truly get quiet...especially weekdays, evenings, and nighttime. With so little noise, fresh air, and no schedule, we all slept like babies. And the dive raft...what a nice place to enjoy the lake, and its very clean and refreshing waters. Overall, highly recommended!

Beautiful and peaceful

Cottage is perfectly located next to a swimmable lake. Lake is calm and quiet, very few motorboats, and can be explored using the property's canoe and kayak. Swimming dock located a short swim from the shore. Everything is provided, life vests, emergency kits, etc. Owner is very helpful and communicates quickly and efficiently. Cottage is clean and has pretty much everything you'd need for your stay. We loved our stay, everyone had a wonderful time and got some much needed R&R.

Highlands East Cottage

Quaint, well appointed, comfortable, newly updated cottage located on located on a peaceful lake. Lovely private views of lake, beautiful starry skies and moon shimmering over the lake creating stupendous reflections of trees in the water. Excellent swimming for adults- enjoyed the super diving raft, a little more difficult for small dogs due to limited size of sandy beach. Owner supplies all of the basics- linens, pillows, initial supply of paper products , some kitchen supplies, emergency drinking water in case of power failure, first aid kit and emergency lighting. Owner provides excellent information package well in advance and responds to questions/ concerns very quickly. The one downside to the location- the lack of a nearby convenience store. We would highly recommend this cottage for a quiet, restful vacation/get away.

Great stay at a great cottage

We had a great stay at the cottage. Everything you could possibly need it available. From the kitchen to the canoe outdoors, everythin is in order. There were water toys for the kids, nice deck chairs for us and Deer Lake is a great place to swim, fish or paddle. But the thing that sets the cottage apart is the hospitallity of Roz, the owner. We received a lot of tips about things we could do, and she responded fast to every question we had.

Exactly what we wanted!

We were looking for a private, quiet place with access to a lake. It was exactly what we got. The property and home were more than we expected. Beautiful views from every room. Very clean. Dog friendly access to the lake. It was everything we wanted and more. Very relaxing and we didn't want to leave! Roz answered every question we had prior to going. Would definitely go back. Loved it!
