We renovated the former Queen Elizabeth School into apartments-this is the former science classroom-approximately 1150 s.f. with ceilings over 12 ft high-lots of big windows that open.
The apartment allows complete self sufficiency-from forks to all furnishings-all appliances-bedding......51" curved Samsung TV-netflix-youtube-Prime-hey Google......
Laundry is coin-op but coins are provided so it's free.
Except for last minute bookings we provide fresh Finn pancake batter-strawberries-whipped cream- all pans and cooking instructions for guests to make their own Finn pancake breakfast. Mix and cooking instructions by a former cook at The Hoito- probably the most famous Finnish restaurant in Northern Ontario.

Once again an awesome stay

So grateful to Mike and Taina for providing our group with an amazing home away from home! Absolutely everything and more was provided. The suite is quiet and the area is perfect for us as our dog trial was 5 minutes away. We have stayed at Mike and Taina’s 4 times now and each time the accommodation could not be beat. So grateful that they were able to let us stay an extra night due to a snowstorm. We definitely will be back. Thanks so much!

Comfy and quiet… just as listed

Was a great place to stay for the weekend with two teens and a dog. Beds were super comfy, Finnish pancakes were delicious. Hosts were very quick to respond when I asked a question.

Excellent location and property

We booked this property because it was in a good location. We are former Thunder Bay residents returning for a visit. The property is centrally located in a good area. It is close to shopping, attractions and our old neighbourhood. We brought our dog with us. The property is very dog friendly, with paw drying towels and poop bags provided at the door. Also, a great dog park (if your dog is medium/large, and comfortable playing with lots of others) is located within a 10 minute walk. The property was clean and very well appointed. The premade Finn pancake mix, with strawberries and cream, was a welcome touch. Very delicious. The hosts were very responsive to our requests for information. They had a beeping smoke detector attended to within hours. The beds are comfortable, although we'll bring our own pillows next time (the supplied pillows were a bit thin for our liking). The property is located in an old school (I had shop classes there as a kid) and is very well restored. The high ceilings and old bits of the original building lend a nice touch. We will definitely use this place again! Thanks Taina and Mike.

Wonderful stay in Thunder Bay

We really enjoyed staying in the VRBO rental in Thunder Bay. The aoartment was well laid out and the furniture very comfortable. We really enjoyed theFinnish pancakes with berries and whio cream. Taina and Mike were great hosts. Thank you so much for the ease in accessing your site . The tv channels and the alexa pod were bonus features. When we are in Thunder Baynext time, we will check to see if we can rent your VRBO apartment again.

This was our third time staying at one of Mike and Tania’s property. Another wonderful stay! Beautiful suite. Green space available for our dogs and all the amenities we could ever want. Mike and Taina truly aim to please and they definitely do!!!

Comfortable Place to Connect

We came from a two day drive away and decided to stay here because it looked like a welcoming and comfortable to connect with our eldest before sending him off to Lakehead University for the first time. And it was! Our boys were so excited about the yummy chips Taina and Mike had left and we were delighted to have breakfast ready for us to make so we could spend time connecting over a nice leisurely brunch. It was a perfect location to grab last minute things for our eldest and it was quiet so we could sleep well before and after the big move! Thank you Taina and Mike! We will definitely be back when we are visiting 🙏❤️

Great place in TB!

We loved our stay at this property. It was clean, extremely well stocked, and a convenient location to get around town. We loved that it was on a renovated school with fun details like the old style floors in some spaces. Loved the Finnish pancakes, strawberries and cream that were left for us to enjoy our first morning. Definitely recommend this spot and these owners.

Home away from home

Stayed here with another family...3 adults and four kids with plenty of space! Thank you for an amazing stay! The apartment is absolutely beautiful, the pancakes were delicious, and they literally have thought of every little thing that we could’ve ever wanted or didn’t know we needed to have and had it there! I love how they kept the original flooring in the hallways and the bathroom. It was nice and quiet, and we ran into a couple of tenants during our stay, and they were very sweet. Will definitely book again!

Excellent experience

We were looking for a place to stay for a family wedding and this was perfect. Three bedrooms for five of us provided an escape from the busyness. What was amazing was the thoughtfulness of the hosts - pancake batter and all of the fixings, directions to laundry, helpful guide book (binder), and so many basics included: salad dressing and coffee filters and spices and ziploc bags. We used the playing cards provided but didn't have a chance to use any of the board games which were also available. Highly recommend!

We spent one night here while relocating our family and pet across Canada! The apartment was so cool looking; it was funny walking into a school after all these years! The high ceilings are amazing and the suite is spacious yet cozy. The hosts are so thoughtful! Everything was so clear and easy to understand, everything we could possible need was provided generously. It was a wonderful treat to start our morning making Finnish pancakes with the batter supplied as well as all of the delicious toppings! This was a great place to stay and I definitely recommend it!

Fabulous accommodations!

The apartment was lovely! It was clean, comfortable and homey. The Finnish pancake breakfast left for us was remarkable. I would definitely recommend this accommodation and will stay here again.

Both of us were born and lived our lives -to date-in/around Thunder Bay. Mike was a commercial realtor for 30 years and owned several small businesses.
Taina started out working in Finnish restaurants-became a licensed electrician and is now retired.
