About this property
enjoy island living on a sandy Puget Sound beach with a view of Mt. Rainier
Waterfront Beach House (850 square feet with a full kitchen and a huge deck) with magnificent views of Mt. Rainier to the South and the Olympic Mountains to the North. Have a fire on the beach (158 feet of low bank waterfront) and play in the sandy beach coves. Bring your boat, the crabbing is great! Launch it from the private, concrete boat ramp and tie it up to the buoy. Bring your tennis shoes (we supply racquets and balls) and play tennis on the all-weather court. A croquet set is available to enjoy on the lawn by the beach.
Fox Island Details: Fox Island is accessible by bridge (NOT ferry) from Gig Harbor and Tacoma, WA. Zog's is a new bar and short order restaurant on the island with Convenience store attached.
Gig Harbor Details: Gig Harbor, 'the Maritime City,' is still a commercial fishing village. It has restaurants, shops, galleries, and recreation just 10 miles from the Beach House.
Boating Details: There is a boat ramp on the property where you can launch your private boat and tie it up to the buoy out front. You can rent boats in Gig Harbor and Tacoma.
Hiking/Walking Details: you can walk the beach a mile in each direction when the tide is out. There are many in-land walking trails nearby.

Everything was perfect! The views were spectacular, the beach house was clean, comfortable and cozy. The host was very communicative, welcoming and attentive to details. I highly recommend!
What a lovely cabin - close in to Tacoma, yet completely "away"! Floor to ceiling windows with full view of Wollochet Bay, right on the beach. Huge outdoor deck off the living room and a 2nd area below with fire pit. If you love nature & comfort, this is the place to stay.
We stayed a week and everything was great. Checkin and checkout was a breeze, the owners were great and the place amazing. Will stay there again the next time we visit Gig Habor and Fox Island!
The view is so gorgeous. I could just sit and relax by the water all day.
The deck is HUGE and awesome with easy access to the beach down several steps.
The guest house is adorable and cozy!
The hosts were eager to please and make sure I had everything I needed. Bill is incredibly kind and helpful.
I loved my time there.
The guest house is adorable and cozy
We were looking for a charming place with a water view and we found it here. The view of Mount Rainier from the deck was gorgeous especially when the sun was setting. The house was very clean and comfortable and William was easy to work with. We definitely would stay here again!
From porpoises, momma and baby seal frolicking in the waters morning and afternoon (easily seen from the large deck), to birds galore. The bald eagle calling and swooping from a clump of trees next to the cabin and deer wandering the island make it quite clear this is a special retreat. Beachcombing is a thrill, (bring an old pair of shoes) and wading into the water while the tide ebbs and flows allows crystal clear views of crab, starfish and marine life, while cranes walk ahead of you on your exploration. The cabin is fully stocked with thoughtful touches. Including a vast collection in each room of the books you always wanted to buy at B&N. Including all genres, some beachy themes and lengths easily read in a short stay. No kindle needed here! Waking up with the sun in the super comfy and supportive king bed starts the day with great expectations.
We spent our mornings at some local attractions. Point Defiance Park and zoo is in full bloom just a 45 minute distance from the island. (free parking!) Point Ruston is a must see. Beautiful Olympic mountain views, beach lined boardwalk with readily available rental bikes of all sorts-electric and not, to cruise further down the boardwalk and trails. The Wild Fin Restaurant provides a deck view with a flavorful lunch and attentive staff. Shops, outdoor market... DO check out the FI Pier which is a short trip from the cabin. Stunning views of the Sound and Narrows Bridge, photo ops from every angle.
This cabin gets a gold medal!
We really had a wonderful time and the setting is awesome. The beach cabin is very charming. Our hosts were hospitable. The only caution we would offer has to do with older adults, such as ourselves. The stairs are difficult for people who have any sort of issue with mobility. Tthat said a delightful week
Bill and Sue Spencer have created lovely, simple but homey Beach House, with a Spacious and relaxing deck right on the Puget Sound. The home contains a complete and efficient kitchen, a soft and comfortable King size bed, and even a recliner nestled among shelves filled with books. Their beach house is a perfect getaway on days both sunny and otherwise. Bill and Sue are wonderful hosts, very kind and attentive to their guests’ needs. We appreciated our time in their beautiful haven And hope to return!
This property was the perfect place to unwind after visiting the University of Puget Sound's family weekend activities! The deck was unbeatable--we enjoyed coffee in the mist, cocktails at sunset...delightful. The hosts were super friendly and helpful. We would come again anytime!
Great cabin on the sound. We wanted something away from the city and on the water. This is it. Great deck overlooking the sound. Very comfortable accommodations and everything is as advertised. Wonderful hosts.
We came to enjoy the wildlife and nature and this paradise fulfills that. We got to see porpoise, eagles, heron, and explore at low tide. The picture window and deck are truly remarkable to enjoy the surroundings!
They made an effort to communicate about local attractions and they had almost everything we needed for cooking, cleaning up, bedding and towels. We did not need to contact the owners about any problems.
The view is absolutely wonderful. The cottage is right ON the water so you can see the dolphins, cranes, a bald eagle right outside the door, the deer that wander through the property, the occasional seal, the migrating geese, the boats on the bay, the planes going into Seatac airport at night, and the activity on the other side of the narrow bay. What more can one ask for? Except beautiful weather, which we got for our 3 days there.
It's perfect if you love the Pacific NW and the waterways. We plan to go back.
We were on Fox Island for a wedding and stayed here. It was absolutely perfect for us! Cute beach house right on the water with a huge patio. Everything we needed was there with a market just a short distance away!
Bill and Sue have a little waterfront cottage on their property -- that's what this is -- and they make you feel totally welcome. The cottage is cozy and relaxing. The king-sized bed in the upstairs loft bedroom is very comfortable. The expansive waterfront deck is a gem -- chaise lounges, comfy cushioned chairs, an outdoor dining table with chairs and an umbrella, and a large propane grill that enabled us to cook yummy chicken, steaks, and shrimp that we brought with us. There's a fire pit on the seawall below the deck and the hosts provided a lot of firewood for us. Bill and Sue have owned the main house for almost 50 years and they are clearly well-known on Fox Island. They are happy to share the history of their renovations -- there are even a couple of magazines in the cottage with cover stories on the main house. Sue has spent a lot of time cultivating beautiful gardens around her house -- when we complimented her on it, she gave us a tour. Fox Island is a very close-knit community and we met a bunch of Bill and Sue's friends and neighbors. We were made to feel like family, what more can you want? Now, here are a few things to note (I don't know if I'd call them "cons" but it's better to be prepared) when you're considering this lovely cottage: the kitchen is somewhat dated -- there is no dishwasher and no dispose-all so you'll be washing up your dishes, cleaning out the drain trap, and composting your table scraps. The shower is only slightly larger than a phone booth, but the water pressure is excellent. There's only one bathroom, so this is definitely a two-person place. All things considered, we just loved it and look forward to coming back next summer!

Serene!
Very much enjoyed our stay despite some unlucky soggy weather. Great deck, views and strolling beach. House, beds, furniture very comfortable (maybe starting to show a little of its 80s or 90s vintage - stove top balky- but only minor). We would definitely return & recommend.

About the host
Hosted by Sue and Bill Spencer
The picture is of Sue and Bill in their Kitchen at Christmas time.
Sue is a retired Tennis Pro who now enjoys gardening and sharing her beautiful flower gardens with others. Her gardens were on the Gig Harbor Garden Tour in 2004.
When they lived in Connecticut, Sue ran a successful B&B for many years.
Bill owns a small business and enjoys landscaping the 13 acres behind their house. When he is not doing those activities, he can be found crabbing in front of their house. He loves sharing with guests the many nearby destinations where they can experience the incredible beauty of the Pacific NW.
Why they chose this property
We own the Beach House next door to the house we live in, because we wanted to protect our view of Mt. Rainier and because we enjoy sharing the view and the beach with others ... particularly new visitors to the Pacific NW. They cannot believe what a beautiful place we live and the abundance of wildlife that surrounds us.
