Our stay

Location was good. Close to beach. We enjoyed our stay on Oahu. However, the bedrooms did not have smoke detectors. The gas stove elements did not burn properly. Propane could be smelled in the cupboard beside the stove as well as in the master bedroom. One morning while cooking breakfast a huge fireball shot out of the oven. We were not using the oven. this was a concern as one of us was standing right in front of the stove when this happened. Communication during this time was good even though the owner was on vacation. he arranged for us to have a hotplate and loaned us his bar-b-que. however he did not have any contact with us when he returned from vacation before we left. I would suggest a fire extinguisher would be a good addition to have in the kitchen.

What a gem!

I had a bit lowered expectations going in but I absolutely love this place. Its a cute little place that comfortably housed 3 adults and a toddler. Kitchen space was ample and good bedroom space. The private walkway to the beach was really nice and the beach itself is fantastic for a swim and to spend the day. Kailua is such a beautiful area and Herman's place is in a great neighbourhood. Close to groceries, restaurants and everything else you need. If I were to recommend something...maybe a small loveseat in the living room? But honestly, I didnt mind pulling up a chair that was literally 2 steps away to join my group in hanging out in the living room. I strongly recommend this place As a side note(I dont think the Host knows), I originally booked this place back in February but had to cancel due to Omicron craziness. When we decided to rebook the trip for May, this place was our first priority, so much so that we decided to spend the first two nights in Waikiki in order to stay at his place as it was booked the first two nights we arrived. But I'm really glad we did and would love to be back.. Mahalo Herman

Perfect Location

In the heart of Kailua a lovely comfortable cottage conveniently located steps from the beach. We’ve stayed twice and love it. Herman is an outstanding host.

Wonderful Home

What a great find. Stayed 8 nights. So convenient to everything. Our host was really a great guy. Great communication. The place was perfect for our group of two couples. Would definitely recommend and we would stay here again if ever we return to Hawaii. Loved it!! Thank you Herman!

Nice location

Great location close to a local beach and a short drive to the main city beach. Herman is a great host. Our casita was spotlessly clean and nicely decorated. Only slight problem was the heat and humidity, which the lone air conditioner struggled with. As Californians we are not used to humidity!

Fabulous location, Gorgeous beach!!!

Great place to stay, close to beach. Nice outside area, Beautiful plants everywhere, loved hearing the birds. We definitely would stay again and recommend to others. Easy check in & out. Herman was very nice as well. No BBQ was a bit of a bummer.

Gorgeous gardens hide away

Herman made our stay perfect from the moment our reservation was accepted. Excellent to the point check in information sent ahead of arrival with contact information. Met us on arrival to the property and showed us the home and answered questions and showed us to the beach access. Home is on a VERY quiet street. The house was clean, tidy and had the amenities listed and needed. Comfortable beds and plenty of linens. Shared laundry was no problem. Literally 3 minute walk (walking slowly) to the beach on a private walkway. Lots of beach chairs and an umbrella were available to use. Yard at the house was well manicured with beautiful tropical landscaping and a privacy fence. This rental has a VERY coveted off street parking space for 1 car. Easy access to anywhere on the island. Plenty of food and shopping within a 5 minute drive. Hope to vacation here again.

Perfect spot

This was our 3rd trip to the island and we just wanted R&R since we had done all the tourist activities in the past. This was a perfect spot away from the business of Waikiki. 5 minute walk to the beach, but be careful of the man of war jellyfish that wash up on the sand. Lovely neighborhood with shops and hole in the wall places to eat. Having the convenience of a kitchen was a plus and we only ate out 4 times. Very easy check in and out and the small backyard was very serene to have coffee outside in the morning. Bring to go coffee cups if you want to take coffee on a morning walk along the beach as the kitchen did lack those. Would definitely stay again.

Hidden Kailua Gem

Private Beach Access

The owner was very accommodating when needing another chair and answered quickly when we had questions. The beach access was amazing and we were even able to play pickle ball not even 2 miles away. Very enjoyable vacation.

Location, location, location!

This property is just steps from one of the most beautiful swimming and walking beaches on Oahu. Private, quiet, but close to stores and shopping. I would not hesitate to stay here again. I started every morning with a swim and a beach walk, and I usually had the beach mostly to myself.

Perfect location

Very well maintained cottage with access to the beach by private walkway

This is the place if you want privacy in a clean very well maintained cottage just three minutes away from the beach via a locked walkway. The owner lives on the proprty is thoughtful and very responsive to text and phone calls.

Very nice

Very nice place. Quiet. Perfect size for my husband and I and my brother and sister in law. The cottage is on a dead end road so the place is very quiet. The walk to the beach is about 2 mins away. Beautiful beach. We walked the beach in the mornings and there were lots of man of war washed up so we didn’t swim there but it’s a very nice quiet private beach with very few people If we had more time it would have been a perfect place for a relaxing beach day. Herman was very responsive and accommodating. We enjoyed our stay.

Really nice property. Gated beach access roughly two minute walk. Host a pleasure to work with. Plenty of dining options in town. Drive to Pearl Harbor, Hono or airport around 20 minutes via H2 and never saw traffic backed up. Will definitely try booking this property again for my next visit.

A lucky find for sure!

I’m not sure how to review this place because I want it to stay a secret so we can stay here again but this place is an absolute gem! I say this because when searching for places to stay most everything is out in Waikiki and northshore area. Finding a place on the ocean side of Kalaheo Ave at the end of a quiet dead end street with semi private gated access to the beach is a rare find indeed. The apartment itself had everything we needed plus some nice extras. A/C and fans to keep temp cool, off street parking, beach equipment (chairs, umbrella, bodyboards, etc…), and a working kitchen. The owners were very accommodating with laundry access and a generous later checkout. I feel VERY fortunate to have found such a peaceful location on such a busy island in such a great town.

Hidden gem

We didn’t know Hawaii at all but wanted ti be off the beaten path a bit. It was not super touristy but all the amenities were 10 mins away. We took a chance on this area and it was perfect. Highly recommend. Host was great, very accommodating
