We were very impressed with our accommodations, the location was perfect. There was road construction but that didn’t affect our experience. We both absolutely loved it there and we hope we are welcome back again!!
Thank you for everything, you made our holiday even more enjoyable!!
Property was equipped with all the amenities , Ronald was very informative and pleasant , could walk to restaurants and pubs and the view off the deck was great. We had a fun 10 days with many Day trips 👍
Really enjoyed our week stay in Pictou, thanks for sharing your lovely heritage home with us…. Perfect location for walking and restaurants and the view from the front porch! We would stay again if ever back!

Beautiful clean property right next to the water and walking distance to many restaurants and the Hector of course. Couldn't have asked for more the place was equipped and comfortable. Would love to return one day.
Beautifully restored residence, wonderful detail work and unique furnishings. Friendly helpful hosts ! This is a great place to uee as a bsse for exploring Pictou area and it's storied history. Awsome seafood of course!
Comfortable space in a great location. Beautiful views across the water from the lovely verandah. Can walk anywhere in town but lots of lovely places to drive close by. The Hector 250 celebrations were on and a great bonus. Glad the paper mill is closed!
Second time here and once again it was awesome to stay here. Walking distance to the shore and several restaurants. Grocery stores are a very short drive and you can get a freshly cooked lobster at their sobeys grocery store
Host was there at check in and gave us the run down which was helpful.
Recommend you stay here
The house rental had everything we needed for a 12 day stay, and the view from the front porch out onto the water was simply incredible. Air conditioning worked great as it was extremely hot outside during our entire stay, and Ron the host treated us extremely well and offered advice on local activities and things to do. Would definitely stay again if we were ever in the area!! Thanks Ron for a wonderful time and rental!!
We stayed in the Cunard House for two weeks in July and enjoyed every minute. You’re right on the waterfront here with restaurants, shopping, museums and walking trails all within walking distance of your front porch—where we enjoyed mornings sipping our coffee and watching the world go by. Ron and Ginny are great hosts and, after spending many years refurbishing—no shortage of electrical plugs here—the house is spacious, clean, comfortable and the wifi rocks! We’d definitely stay here again.
A character property. Historic to the neighbourhood. View was beautiful. Just what we needed to unwind. Clean & quiet. Property owner was very personable & helpful! I’d go back in an instant!
Everything was great from check in to check out! I loved sitting on the front steps with a coffee in the morning! Absolutely quieter area than you expect!
Loved this house and all that it offered. The hosts were super friendly and wonderful to talk with. The location was perfect for our travelling needs as we wondered around Nova Scotia. Would highly recommend to anyone and would love to go back.
Our 7 night stay here was perfect! The location was wonderful. It is right across the street from the water and is steps away from numerous shops and restaurants. Everything is within walking distance. And an added bonus, which we were not aware of, was Jitney Trail which is a wonderful walking trail just at the edge of town. During our time in Pictou saw many bald eagles as well as a few seals.
The apartment has everything you would need during your stay. It is spacious, clean and has many unique touches throughout. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom hosted the thickest and softest towels ever!
We ate at the Harbourhouse (right across the street), Marina's as well as Stone Soup Kitchen and enjoyed our meals at all three places. We got ice cream from The Cherry On Top and a few odds and ends at the General Store which is located in the old train station. (highly recommend their oatcakes and molasses cookies!)
We enjoyed a few day trips during our stay. We visited New Glasgow, Tatamagouche as well as enjoyed a couple of beaches in the area. Monroe's Island and Ruston Beach. We also took the ferry across to PEI as it is SO close (10 minute drive) and enjoyed a day there. We saw Prim Point lighthouse, Woods Island and the Woods Island lighthouses as well as went to Northampton Beach. Before boarding the ferry to head back to Pictou, we ate at Treena's on PEI. It was fabulous! Best fish and chips I have ever had and very reasonable prices.
Our trip to Pictou was a 10 out of 10 and I would HIGHLY recommend these accommodations to anyone and everyone who would like to visit Nova Scotia!
We rented this cottage because it was in the location we needed plus they allowed pets. It is a lovely location on the water. It was very nice to walk along the waterfront and into town. The cottage was very clean and the beds were comfortable. It was very nice to have a bathtub and a shower.
Sit on the porch and out out at the bay. Historic house with period furniture. Comfortable beds. All amenities needed. Restaurants down the street.
Gets a bit busy with traffic in the morning, otherwise quite.
Beautifully restored home. It had all we needed for our stay and owners were very friendly. Close to some restaurants and museum's. Quiet area, and like another person noted you do hear some creaks from the floor, but that's being very picky. Definitely recommend staying.
An amazing property with the water right at your doorstep. Lots of interest from passers by regarding a future stay. We recommend it as it was a perfect location for us. Thanks again for your hospitality!

About the host
Hosted by Ron Arnold
A retired school principal and his teacher wife-and-former-sweetheart spent the last 8 years renovating this 1832 office building built by Samuel Cunard, the founder of Cunard Steamship Lines. Before that we worked in schools in three provinces, one territory and two countries.
Why they chose this property
One side of my family descended from Ship Hector settlers. We were looking for a retirement project in the Maritimes and this building needed some work, was located on the harbour and was empty. Kind of a no brainer!
What makes this property unique
Cunardhouse is a piece of classic Maritime architecture and turned out to be a piece of history as well. Looking onto the harbour on the second floor are three crooked windows that make it stand out in all the old photos of the waterfront. They present a unique 'face' and we think we know their story.
