This hand built cabin is situated privately on 50 acres of pine woods in the Adirondack foothills. From cutting down the trees, to making the logs on our sawmill and picking up our hammer, we lovingly hand-crafted it. The cabin features a hot rainwater shower and sink; solar electricity for the lights, and a wood-burning stove. You'll find a propane cook stove inside and a barbecue grill (propane) outside. Named Mountain Laurel, the cabin is situated at the top of a hill, with beautiful shade trees, cool breezes and a great view of the pine woods. It features a queen size bed in the main living area and a full size bed in the loft. A dining area is on the main floor along with a wood burning stove with a screen that can function as a fireplace. Experience cool breezes all summer long on the full-size porch. The catwalk off the loft leads you to a balcony with a beautiful ten-mile view. The shower room is located under the cabin on ground floor level. A very neat and clean "glorified" outhouse is located in a separate building a few yards from the cabin. If you are looking for a cabin with an indoor bathroom, please check out our Lion's Den cabin HA 9143513. We are located close to access points for ATV and Snowmobile trails. Numerous lakes are a short drive away for kayaking, canoeing, swimming and fishing in the summer. In the winter, enjoy cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, hiking and snowmobiling. Snow Ridge, which boasts the first snow of the season, is thirty minutes away. We request reservations to be made at least 48 hours in advance of arrival date. Come and enjoy our back-to-nature cabin in our quiet pine woods.

This cabin is perfect for leisure time. It's super cozy, especially with a fire going on. My friends and I had an excellent stay talking, playing cardboard games and cooking while not being disturbed by our phones and other technology. I recommend this place if you're looking for a quiet place to stay :)
Many great things.. relaxing and peaceful. We enjoyed escaping to the warmth of a wood stove during a winter storm, exploring on our atv and enjoying the beautiful surroundings

Little House on the Prarie
I fell coming down the stairway that did not have any hand railing or stairway treads. It was a gorgeous log cabin but not appropriate for 60 year old people. I felt like we were on Little House on the Prarie..Outhouse, no running water, hardly any electricity. i loved the fireplace and the bed was comfortable. We left a day early because of my injury with as of this day, November 14, 2024 I still have pain.
Me and my partner had a lovely two night stay filled with cozy fires, lovely meals, hot coffee and a very comfortable cabin. The hosts made check in and check out easy and I look forward to staying again soon!
It was a treat to stay at Richard's place and to get to chat with him a bit. The cabin is as described and even more comfortable than I imagined. The bathroom and camp kitchen were both well-appointed, and the rainwater shower was wonderful. I spent hours watching birds at the feeder outside the big window at the dining table :) I look forward to returning again the future with my dogs for more peaceful time among the treetops.

BOOK WITH CAUTION- NO RUNNING WATER or POWER
Don't get us wrong, this is a beautiful cabin away from the hustle and bustle of the city. And if we were looking to go camping this would have been a great place to rent. But we were in town for a wedding. Getting ready for a wedding at this location is not for the faint of heart.
Please be fully aware that in order to take a "heated" shower as the ad boasts you must light a propane heater and wait 15 min for it to be warm enough to shower in it. The water is rain water and therefore you cannot drink it. So be prepared to bring water bottles.
The ad also says that there is a kitchenette.. NOT SO.
They provide you with a small propane burner and a few utensils. There is NO refrigerator and no way to keep anything cold. And no real space to prepare anything.
There are NO linens so bring your own.
Also keep in mind that cell service is NON existent. We luckily brought our own Wi-Fi so we were able to make calls. But if heaven forbid there was an emergency Im not sure if you could catch a carrier pigeon fast enough to get help.
While we are talking about phones, the SOLAR power is literally only good for charging phones on the cigarette lighter that they provide. We wanted a fan to help move the air through out the cabin. So we bought a desk top oscillating fan. But the 12v solar panels werent strong enough to power it.
The scenery was great. You are literally out in the boonies. We heard more chipmunks and owls than we did people. Oh, and beware of the bears....
The smell of woodsmoke from the wood stove permitted the cabin, but overall clean and kept up. Didn’t do well with the outhouse. Did enjoy our quiet time and the animals.
Our family honestly needed space to get away from the outside world and technology this spot was the perfect place to disconnect. Our favorite amenity was probably the swing if we had to choose. We absolutely adore the cabin and the opportunity to unwind.
We really enjoyed our first "off-grid" experience at Rick and Maria's Mountain Laurel cabin. The location is on the west side of the Adirondacks, so nice and quiet and away from the touristy things and crowds you find on the east.
The cabin was not only charming and cozy, but fun in the way that a visitor can experience the imagination and thinking of another person trying to create a beautiful and convenient vacation home. We enjoyed the little signs all around explaining how to work the off-grid things, like the shower water heater and the wood stove. The second floor balcony sits almost at the tops of the trees, so the evening light, especially after a rainstorm, is magical.
If you like birds, it's a seemingly healthy forest, with almost non-stop bird chatter. I think I counted over 15 different species. The balconies were a great place to relax with some binoculars and a beer, and just enjoy the lack of a modernized world.
We hope to come back some day. Thanks Rick and Maria!
Rick, the property owner, has a definite talent/skill which is amazing. He built the cabin and thought of everything for his guests (e.g., check in and guidance, wood for the fire pit, propane for grilling and shower, cooking convenience, bathroom comfort/supplies, etc.). The cabin is clean, isolated, roomy and offers the both the feel of camping and cabin luxury.
My wife and I, and our 3yo AUS cattle dog, enjoyed walking the many trails, the cool breeze at the cabin, sitting on the porch playing cards, the fire pit with Argentine Malbec, peace and quiet (privacy) and every amenity Rick built into each stay (e.g., the one minute it takes to heat water for coffee from the moment you get out of bed, electricity for a CPAP machine, extra coolers, etc.).
We have already reserved the cabin for Labor Day, and look forward to our long weekend of peace and quiet.
Beautiful cabin lovely scenery we had such an enjoyable time. The host explained everything. We had a lot of questions before going and they responded quickly. A very unique place to stay. We really enjoyed ourselves.
We went up to Croghan to watch the eclipse. It was a lovely cabin with alll the amenities (and more) that you would expect from a Glamping trip. Solar and rainwater were harvested beautifully to give you the basics you'd need from a stay in the middle of nature. Stacked with cord wood and propane, oil lamps, candles, wide private spaces, swings, firepit... Can you tell I am at a loss of what I can talk about as I am just jumping all over the place :))! On top of it all, Rick was super helpful and communicative. It was a unique stay experience and I'd hold it in my memories fondly.
Mt. Laurel is a peaceful and beautiful cabin to relax and restore your energy!
Ricky was amazing at communicating with all our needs.
The property is super clean and really well kept!
We are looking forward to coming back in the fall,
The property was absolutely beautiful, 50 acres of snow-covered secluded forest in upstate NY. If Rick hadn't told us he had two other cabins on the property I would have had no idea, this cabin is located in a great spot to offer lots of privacy while still leaving tons of room for activities. My partner and I got to meet Rick briefly at the start of our stay and he told us some of the history of the cabin and it is truly impressive! These cabins were built by the owner and are well maintained and clean, many accommodations are made so you only have to bring minimal supplies. Our stay was in mid-February and we saw a low of 19 degrees but the wood burning stove and supplied wood was more than enough to keep us nice and toasty in a wonderful winter getaway! The cold definitely should not keep you away as the shower and restroom can be kept warm as well. We plan to come back soon! Thanks for the great stay Rick!
We booked this location because we had a celebration of life get together in Carthage. I loved the cabin it was very cozy. I will say I was surprised by the outhouse and rainwater(my fault I didn’t read all the way through)
But it was a trip my Mother and I will always remember:)
Thank you, Rick and Maria, for creating a beautiful cabin in the woods. It was so peaceful and quiet. We loved every little thoughtful detail you have made and added to the cabin and property. The solar power and rainwater was such a cool experience. It was a wonderful time! You are two truly amazing people!
Cabin was adorable, perfect size for the two of us and the dog. Loved all the personal touches in the cabin and thrilled to have had a hot shower! Great paths through the woods to get out on a little walk, we all can’t wait to go back!
We enjoyed our stay, as usual, at the beautiful cabin property. We took a walk on the trails and picked blackberries, we didn't see any blueberries. We had a bonfire. My son loved the swing. We had a great getaway.

About the host
Hosted by Rick and Maria Bohlman
After building tree forts in the woods behind his house as a young boy, my husband Rick decided one day he would build his own cabin. Mountain Laurel is the result of this dream. Hand built from the trees on the property, the cabin is situated privately on 50 acres of pine woods.
Why they chose this property
We loved this property as soon as we saw it. The sweet smell of pine greets you and the soft moss on the ground makes hiking on the property ideal.
What makes this property unique
Situated privately on fifty acres of pine woods, with your own spot of peaceful quiet, the cabin is unique. From the porch you can sip tea or coffee and listen to the birds greet the morning. From the balcony, you can see for ten miles. If it's a quiet get-away you're looking for, you've found it!
