Tranquility of paradise disrupted by musty smells, and buzz saw renovations!
This villa is currently for sale and under renovation in peak season. The restful afternoons we had hoped for were interrupted by the noise of a buzz saw and construction activity, and one of the rooms was uninhabitable due to a very musty odour - unlike anything I’ve experienced elsewhere in Aruba or the Caribbean.
While the owner insisted she couldn’t detect any smell, with some embarrassment she did remove undergarments that were left behind, and she acknowledged that the bathroom needed to be freshened. While the room could not be used, she did agree to have the room cleaned the next day. Unfortunately the odour in this one room wasn’t resolved, one friend had to make other arrangements. While only three of the four rooms were in acceptable condition, and despite politely highlighting our concerns the owner said “what can I do, I’ve already reduced the price”. We had not known that the price had been reduced when we made our reservations. Clearly there was an underlying problem that we were not aware of.
After speaking to the property manager, by day 5 the renovations had stopped.
While the villa is in a beautiful location, unfortunately the sounds and smells really did impact our enjoyment of this property.
We’ll come back to Aruba, but not to this property under the current ownership.
