About this property

The Aerie- A Glazed Modern Treehouse

Private and peaceful, the Aerie is perched on the edge of a moss and lichen-covered bluff in the open arbutus and fir tree canopy offering intimate views of the surrounding forest as well as the rugged coast.

Eagles chitter from atop centuries old trees and seals and otters frolic among the islets below. A short path brings you to the driftwood strewn beach for a more intimate view of the ocean and chance to explore a small stretch of rocky shoreline.

FEATURES OF THE AERIE:

A graceful butterfly roofline and sweeping expanses of glass blur the boundaries between interior and exterior spaces in this new modern treehouse which reflects a contemporary twist on traditional typologies, especially corrugated metal boat sheds and cedar clad cottages.(sleeps 2-4)

Anchoring a modern kitchen, the 10 ft. granite island serves as a gathering spot in the open living area.

The master bedroom and ensuite enjoy private forest views. A queen sized bed and rainshower refresh.

Cleverly designed niches offer sitting, working and sleeping areas for extra guests.

An additional bathroom with a comfortable deep tub adds convenience for families.

Large deck wraps around the south corner for beautiful ocean views and al fresco dining. Private patio to the rear includes a hot tub and private lounging area.

THE PROPERTY

The five acre waterfront estate includes the Pointhouse, Aerie and new Studio ISO constructed from 2 shipping containers, as well as 260 feet of low bank oceanfront commanding a sunny point with a private beach. The Pointhouse operates mainly as a B&B for guests who want a little more pampering and wish to be directly at the waters edge. It can also be booked for vacations or small private events such as intimate weddings, family reunions, birthdays.., with or without the Aerie or Studio ISO.

Studio ISO offers space for art, massage, exercise as well as guest accommodations. It can be booked separately or with the Aerie for larger family/friend groups that want individual private spaces to retreat to.

The estate property includes a dedicated beach trail to access the waterfront for beachcombing, kayaking, SUP or swimming. We also have a mooring buoy in the bay for temporary overnight anchorage. Extra charges apply for moorage.
Other property features include natural forest, gardens, firepits, viewpoints and a new spa (coming April 1) with oceanfront sauna, cold plunge, lido and spa gardens. New spa will include zen studio for massage, yoga, spa treatments or meditation. Additional charges will apply for Aerie guests. Check availability ahead of time.

If the waterfront amenities are not available the beach at Sargeant Bay is a short walk or drive away. It is sandy at low tide much more expansive and very nice for swimming. There is amazing kayaking in Halfmoon Bay, Gibsons and the Inlet and kayaks are easily rented in those areas.

The location is very central to all that the Sunshine Coast offers -Restaurants, galleries, hiking, biking, kayaking, boating, golf, tennis, and more. Ten Minutes to Sechelt - 30 minutes to either Pender Harbor or Gisbons. Easy access to Vancouver Island, Vancouver or Whistler by ferry or float plane. The only problem with planning to explore the Coast is -You won't ever want to leave the property!

Perfect for a romantic getaway, a relaxing family vacation, small weddings or meetings, a week of sun and water sports with friends, or cosying up by the fire to watch the winter storms.

Stayed for a long weekend

The place was fantastic and nicely finished with modern amenities. The house is located in a quiet and secluded area, and makes for a nice "getaway" from the city. We stayed up in Halfmoon Bay to attend a wedding and this worked out perfectly. The amenities allowed us to prepare meals easily and then sit, relax and enjoy the view outside. It's close to the beach and nature if one wishes to go for a walk. My dog also enjoyed his time there too.

Truly paradise

My husband and I were looking for a private, quiet, relaxed getaway and we definitely got all of that at Aerie! A well stocked kitchen, a beautiful deck, an inviting hot tub and much more...and we could bring our dog! Best vacation in a long time...thank you Heather and Bob!

Beautiful house in a beautiful surrounding

We would go back there anytime if there was another bed - we had problems as the mattress was small and far too soft (old?). The kitchen and all the other facilities were wonderful - (apart from the washing machine in the laundry, which was really filthy)

Relaxing stay

This property is very accurate from the description and pictures. The Aerie house and property is even more beautiful in person. The house was very clean and well equipped for our stay. Communication with hosts was fast and easy. They were able to make many recommendations for area hikes and restaurants, though we mostly ate in. Staying at The Aerie made our anniversary extra special.

A perfect spot

My wife and I stayed at the Aerie for a week of hiking and paddling, and it could not have been better. The property is beautiful, comfortable, and well-maintained. In particular, the glassed-in bedroom gives one the feeling of waking up in the world's most comfortable tent as the chipmunks and juncos play outside. Heather and Bob were helpful and friendly--we can't wait to come back!

Peaceful getaway

Heather and Bob have created a truly beautiful space on this wonderful property at Sargeant Bay. Relax in the hot tub, cook some fine meals in a well-equipped kitchen, work peacefully in the office nook, sleep comfortably in the cozy bed or enjoy the terrific shower that looks out into the forest. A great getaway for couples, young professionals or even a small family.

This one is special

We are in love with the Aerie after our first stay! Such a beautiful building with so much light and space, and perfectly equipped with everything you need for a comfortable and convenient stay. Location is perfect, just steps to Sargeant Bay on the beach path and close to bike and hiking trails. Hot tub is ideally located among shady trees with an ocean view. We are already looking forward to our next visit!

Birthday Getaway

Enjoyed our stay at Aerie over last couple days. The house is lovely and was very clean. The bedroom is special thanks to a comfy bed and wonderful shower and the floor to ceiling windows mean you are surrounded by trees. It's like sleeping in the woods without a tent! Pleased we were able to have a fire in the evenings. Nice birthday getaway.

Fantastic rental

The photos on the listing do NOT do this place justice! Gorgeous house in an amazing location. The kitchen was very well-equipped for us foodie-types who enjoy eating in. The place is very well-designed and it was a pleasure to stay in. Our one small gripe would be that we found the master bedroom mattress to be quite uncomfortable, but otherwise everything else was fantastic. We will definitely be back!

The Aerie Comfort & Beauty

The Aerie and the surrounding property are beautiful - surrounded by nature, within walking distance of Sargeant Bay, close to Sechelt and short drives to nature hikes- this property is amazing. Heather and Bob are great, attentive hosts. The home itself is beautiful, comfortable, clean and architecturally lovely. The kitchen is well equipped. And there are multiple seating areas inside and outside the house. Our stay was relaxing and rejuvenating.

Idyllilc forest getaway

We had the most fabulous relaxing break at the Aerie. We especially enjoyed the peace & quiet in such a beautiful setting. I am not sure we have stayed ANYWHERE with such a well-equipped kitchen. . What a fantastic way to celebrate my wife's birthday! The property is well situated for hiking trails which we thoroughly enjoyed, especially our pup. We can't wait to return and explore the area more thoroughly (hopefully without an atmospheric river!) Minor quibble, the property was not easy to find when we arrived in the dark, it would be helpful to light up the property number so that visitors can easily see they are at the right place.

Dream vacation in Halfmoon Bary

The stress just melts away as you enter the Pointhouse property. The photos do no justice. The views are breathtaking, the home is luxurious and the property scattered with delightful touches. Soaking in a tub watching eagles soar, lazy seals play and blue heron fishing is delightful. We cooked delicious meals in the gourmet kitchen, enjoyed reading from the extensive library and kayaking around the bay. Heather is a thoughtful and generous host. The property was so spectacular we didn't leave for 2 days prompting her to confirm if everything was ok because our cars hadn't moved. Perfect property for a family gathering or wedding. Can't wait to return!

Stunning guesthouse on Sargeant Bay

Our week long stay at the Aerie guesthouse was very relaxing. The cottage has great architecture and many amenities you would expect. The location is in a beautiful setting surrounded by trees and you can hear bird-song from almost every window. We were able to explore much of the coast, kayaking, hiking and beach-combing. We enjoyed the hot-tub nearly twice a day. There were a few things that detracted from our stay, however: First, construction is occurring both on the property (~100' away), and to the east of the property (~200' away) where several acres are in the process of having home sites developed. The noise was not disturbing, but it detracted from an otherwise serene experience. Second, the number of satellite channels offered was limited - a higher-end system with basic content. Lastly, communication with the owner was lacking: there was no response to our text the day of our arrival. There were no arrival instructions, and we had to place a call to unlock the front door. Although we appreciated the privacy granted to us by the owners, we had the impression we were renting from them, rather than being hosted, as guests. We would definitely consider staying here in the future.

Beautiful and relaxing vacation property

We had an excellent stay at the Aerie. The property is close enough to Sechelt but remote enough to enjoy the trees and see the stars at night. The kitchen was well appointed and had everything we needed. It was great to relax in the hot tub after a day out hiking and the wood burning fireplace was a nice treat.

Perfect location!

Have never been to the Sunshine Coast, the Aerie was perfectly situated for us to explore the region. The property had all the amenities (and more!) that we wanted and it was a short walk to the water, which the dogs enjoyed. Bob was very quick to respond to our questions/requests. We have already recommend this stay to several family/friends!

About the host

Hosted by Heather Newman

Host profile image
We bought the property in Dec 2005 as our future retirement home while we were still residing and working in Dawson Creek, BC. It was a successful vacation rental till Feb 2010 when we began a complete reconstruction of the main house and built a new guesthouse (Aerie) on the bluff above.
We made the move to the Sunshine Coast full time in January 2011 living first in the Aerie guesthouse and finally in Jun 2012, the expanded and renovated Pointhouse now a boutique B&B.
With the interesting guests from all over the world and a busy schedule of physician locums, retirement is still a ways off. Fortunately, life on the coast is a more relaxed pace allowing us more playtime, family time and travel opportunities.

Why they chose this property

The Sunshine Coast is easily accessible from Vancouver-car,ferry, boat, floatplane, commercial/ corporate aircraft.

The location is spectacular - You have to visit to appreciate. Most beautiful landscapes on the Sunshine Coast.

Sargeant Bay Provincial Park is a little known jewel. A secluded log strewn halfmoon shingle beach with sand at low tide backed by a magnificent bird sanctuary and lovely hiking and mountain bike paths.

Gibsons, Sechelt, Pender Harbor and points in between offer innumerable opportunities for sightseeing, cultural and sporting activities and this property is located centrally to it all.

What makes this property unique

This estate offers one of the most luxurious, private and peaceful locations on all the Coast.
Everything about the property, both natural and crafted, is designed to induce relaxation.
