About this property

RedHouseNL, 21 Castella's Lane, is a lovely, cozy oceanfront cottage perched on the cliffs of Pouch Cove Newfoundland, overlooking the N Atlantic. Upstairs it offers 2 bedrooms (queen beds) with incredible ocean views, a small sitting area for coffee or reading with a view and a full bathroom with tub/shower. Downstairs is a fully equipped kitchen, living room with wood burning stove, a 'study' with books and a full sized futon which can fold out for a 5th guest, and a second bathroom off the study with a stall shower. The living room is bright, open and spacious, offering incredible ocean views. Off the side of the living room is a dining room with big rustic table great for meals, games and dare I say work?!
The House also has a large deck off the back, with 4 Adirondack chairs to enjoy the scenery and perhaps catch a glimpse of whales and dolphins cruising by. A side deck off the dining room is equipped with 2 lounge chairs for more of the same!
Steps from East Coast Trail. Short drive to local beaches. 25 minute drive to downtown St John's.

We enjoyed this perfect location for sitting on the edge of the rocks and watching and listening to the ocean .Lots of trails to hike and also being close to St Johns for a more busier day. The front deck was our favorite place, to relax and read and just sit.

Red House Pouch Cove

My family was visiting and enjoyed the relaxing and peaceful atmosphere of the red house. Communication was excellent and the welcome gift was very much appreciated. No matter if the weather is good or bad, the experience is always ohenomenal!

Comfortable, peaceful house overlooking the sea

This was our second stay at the Red House and as delightful as the first. The house is light and calming and generously equipped with everything you could possibly need. Proximity to St John’s and the Irish loop is a plus but the highlight is coming ‘home’ to enjoy sitting on the deck - with a book, a coffee, a glass of wine, binoculars to take in the birds and the whales. Thanks again to Kelly for her warm welcome - we hope to be back again.

Cozy house, great view, all the amenities

We enjoyed our stay at the red house. The views were fantastic (when the fog cleared), the house was cozy and well equipped, beds were super comfortable, the only thing we didn't have was lobster crackers! Pouch Cove is pretty much the last stop heading north on the Avalon Peninsula, so it's pretty quiet, exactly what we were looking for in a relaxing vacation. Thanks to Chris and Kelly for a great stay.

Spectacular views and people!

Nothing quite prepares you for the stunning views of the ocean! Everything about this vacation property was perfect for our family. It is located far enough away from everything else to provide a great getaway but, it is close enough to Pouch Cove and a short drive to St John’s. Bonus, the East Coast trail is within walking distance and definitely recommend for the views! The owners Kate and Chris are fantastic people and communicators! They were always quick to respond to any questions we had and let us in on where to pick wild blueberries. With respect to the Red House…well, what can I say? Spectacular views and although old is modernized, clean and everything works! Throughly enjoyed our stay and was regretfully too short! Would definitely recommend to anyone!

The Red House

The Red House is fully and very comfortably furnished. It is perfect for nesting on a stormy day, for basking in sunshine on the deck or for launching a day of hiking surrounded by truly breathtaking views from every window. There was a stash of paperbacks and a pile of videos for our entertainment. There were treats on our arrival. Hosts Chris and Kelly were very attentive. Chris answered email questions promptly. Kelly visited on our first full day to make sure we had everything we needed. Pouch Cove is close enough to St John's for shopping, dining out or visiting The Rooms, but also a great starting point for hikes and drives north and west. We highly recommend staying at The Red House.

Unforgettable week at the Red House

We had a wonderful stay at the Red House and did not want to leave. From the easy emailing with Chris, to the delightful welcome and subsequent visit from Kelly, the feeling of being at home in the house itself and then the incredible views, the stay at the Red House exceeded our expectations. Thinking back on our week there, the words that come to mind are that the setting is idyllic and the place leaves you feeling serene. It was perfect for relaxing on the deck watching the sunrise and looking out at the ocean, and for disconnecting from the world, and reconnecting with each other. We were hoping for a relaxing, quiet and peaceful week and staying at the Red House with the incredible surroundings gave us that and much more. We left with a close personal connection to the place. The house itself was very clean and fully equipped with pretty much anything one could need. Having freshly picked wild blueberries with breakfast every morning was a real delight. The property is located an easy drive into St. John’s and other locales and touristy places like Petty Harbour , Quidii Vidi , Signal Hill and so on. The Red House was the perfect vacation spot and we will definitely be returning there in the future. Thank you Chris for making that incredible place available for us to enjoy.

Splendid house and magical location

We had a wonderful two weeks here and would love to return. The house itself is delightful: immaculate, generously and thoughtfully equipped, aesthetically simple and pleasing, and with a breathtaking view over the sea. We enjoyed day trips to Brigus, Witless Bay (don’t miss the boat trip to see puffin colony) , Petty Cove, and in and around St. John’s (The Rooms also not to be missed). But, in a way, the highlight each time was returning to Pouch Cove and sitting outside on the deck …wine, gannets diving, sea breeze …same again at sunrise, with coffee. There’s good walking nearby and we lucked into blueberry season too, along the cliffs close to the house. Chris was always responsive on email around booking etc and Kelly’s welcome when we arrived was great. Thanks to you both.

WOW Experience

First off, The Red House is "one in a million" - even in NL. Location, Location, Location!! Spotlessly clean, well equipped, tasteful and creative decor and breathtaking views from every angle. I took photos every morning of the spectacular sunrises and in the evening we sat in the comfy adirondack chairs to watch for whale activity out on the ocean . Our stay came with a perfect week of weather. From the puffins at Elliston to the bottom of the Irish Loop we had excursions every day to see and taste what this unique Province has to offer. Our hosts ensured our every comfort and our stay at the Red House was a highlight of our vacation. We have to give it a TEN! L Delmas, Ottawa

Relaxing stay in the Red House at Pouch Cove

The Red House is in a fantastic location and has easy access to the East Coast Trail. Downtown St John’ is approx. 30 minutes away and we enjoyed a fantastic meal at a restaurant called Get Stuffed. We were fortunate enough to be there for the Regatta and that was an experience not to be missed. The house has everything you will need for your stay and it is beautifully decorated. We especially enjoyed using the deck and watching for whales and enjoying the ocean view.

Didn’t want to leave!

This stay exceeded my expectations! The home is clean, very comfortable and charming. The hosts have thought of everything. We felt at home right away. But the view and the location are so beautiful you can hardly leave the deck. We absolutely loved our time there and would return again in a heartbeat!

Lovely Place in Pouch Cove

This was a great place to stay on the Avalon Peninsula. The cottage was immaculate with a terrific ocean view. Beds were comfortable and everything worked. Close to St. John's, hiking trails and nature.

Top 10 most beautiful place on earth

The Red House is a gift to your soul. The peacefulness envelopes you upon arrival. The views off of the back deck and surrounding community are breathtaking. The house itself has everything you could possibly need. It’s so comfortable and inviting. The hostess Kelly was so thoughtful and kin. I can’t say enough.

Perfect Getaway

Had a stay in mid September--lots of amazing weather to experience: hot, cool, stormy, calm, hazy, crisp. Enjoyed the deck and sun and the cozy fireplace. So close to the East Coast Trail for great hikes. Had friends come for some meals and it was a great space to visit and enjoy. It feels remote yet safe. Really comfy beds--but older or little folks might want a step ladder to climb into them! Kelly and Chris were so welcoming and understanding about a hiccup with VRBO. It's a wonderful home in a perfect location. I would definitely come again!

Could not have been better

If you want a nice house on a nice property in a nice town and a friendly responsive owner, this is a the house for you. The views in every direction are breathtaking. Pouch Cove is a very walkable small town with friendly people. The house is very well equipped including extra jackets and Bose bluetooth speakers that I paired with my phone daily. A shout out to Sharon who did a fantastic job of cleaning the house before our arrival. My only regret is that our stay wasn't longer.

Icebergs, whales, eagle…Oh My!

Thank you Chris and Kelly. The Red House was perfect!! We enjoyed our evenings by the fire and watching the whales and icebergs from the deck. We appreciated the well stocked kitchen so we could spend several evenings cooking dinner and relaxing after beautiful hikes that we walked to from the house. It was a spectacular view of the ocean. We managed to see many whales, and iceberg from far away. The property itself was very comfortable and very cozy. Kelly who welcomed us was amazing and easy to reach. Overall, we had a great vacation and looking forward to coming back.

This property is special and you will understand the minute you walk inside. The view of the ocean is mesmerizing! From the vastness of the water to the waves crashing on the cliffs, you will not be able to look away! The sunrises are spectacular along with the occasional whale sightings, many different birds and of course icebergs. Even at night, when it is totally dark, you can hear and feel the ocean. The fresh ocean air is wonderful!

What makes this property unique

The house is extremely cozy and comfortable inside. I like the winter season the best with the wood stove going and watching it snow outside. It's a great escape! During the summer, the back deck is the place to be. Four adirondack chairs facing the ocean keep you and your favourite beverage occupied for hours!
