Perfect Location in the Kootenays

I stayed here with my family and 2 dogs for a week. The location is immaculate, so close to Nelson and offering amazing views. We had so much in the house with all the quirky rooms, it is an older house with a newer kitchen and main floor bathroom. There is so much space for your whole family and we actually had a blast playing hide and seek in the dark because of all the fun places to hide. It gets hot in the summer and every room offered a fan for the occupant. The decks are the only thing that just need a little tlc, there were a few spots with nails that needed a hammering down. Overall, we had a fantastic vacation and we hope to come back again.

best ever vacation

Finding a vac property on Kootnay Lake, 5 minutes out nelson for an extended family of 9 was exactly what we were looking for —The property not only met, but exceeded our expectations. Enough room to give everyone much needed private space, including 2 working from home members. 200 feet of private beach instead of 100 posted on site Property manager very accommodating Access to owner much appreciated Hottub got a lot of use My 4 grandkids ( aged 7 to 13 )rated the vacation as best ever — the property was one of the reasons — boating, jet skiing, hiking, cliff diving, jumping off rope swing into slocan river current, river tubing thru #1 & #2 rated white water currents were some other reasons.

Location great. Safety problems.

The property's lakefront location is wonderful. Lots of fun to play and swim. But until and unless the owner fixes the safety issues [read further] I cannot in good conscience recommend staying here. Biggest issue, the DECK: We could avoid some loose decking boards and nail heads poking up. But more serious were the railings. There were several partially unattached and/or crackled vertical glass panels in wobbly wood frames. A serious risk, especially for children or any halfway rowdy teens. Having lived in Alaska for 20 years, I know that northern weather can be very rough on exterior wood, but this home is long overdue for a deck upgrade, or at the very minimum, an overhaul of the railings. One bedroom window, and a hearth register and “brick” were broken or loose. The threshold between the main living area and hot tub deck is rotted and if you shut the screen door, it’s very difficult to reopen it. The housecleaners did a good job before we came. No complaints there. And the little things we found lacking (missing half of privacy curtain on French doors to one bedroom, lack of wastebaskets, no washcloths, few clothes hangers) could be easily corrected. So, to sum up, the property's location is wonderful. Beach shallow long ways out, and we enjoyed those features immensely. I really hope the owner corrects the safety issues, so that others can safely enjoy this otherwise fine property.

Summertime at the Starlight

Upon our arrival we were greeted by the owner himself who gave us a tour of the house and property. He was very welcoming and eager to ensure our stay at the Starlight was enjoyable. The house had a fresh pot of summer flowers as well as a plate full of chocolates for all to enjoy. The house was spacious with ample room for our large group. We had plenty of sleep space as well as gathering space for evening game nights! The upgraded kitchen and appliances allowed us to feed the brood who chose to spend most of their time outdoors. And why not!? With a gorgeous private sand beach, lounge chairs and a view that cannot be beat! It was the perfect way to cool off in the summer sun. The deck area also deserves mention as it was perfectly shaded, with a hot tub and high end grill. We often ate outdoors overlooking the lake. A relaxed beach getaway in the mountains, who could ask for more? The town of Nelson was minutes away and offered surprisingly good shopping and entertainment. We hiked, rented kayaks & paddle boards, went to the escape rooms, and white water rafted! With many more activities to offer, we’ll need to come back to try them all.

Outstanding place to stay!

One of the most beautiful locations on Earth! The Starlight was perfect! Just what we wanted! Everything was wonderful - we appreciated the private beach, the spectacular lake and mountain views from the three decks, the wonderful jacuzzi on the deck overlooking the lake, and the sauna. We found the STARLIGHT super clean, cozy, and comfortable and enjoyed the wonderful living room, the five spacious bedrooms, the fully equipped kitchen, and all the furniture. We highly recommend the STARLIGHT BEACH HOUSE for a wonderful family vacation.

Amazing place to stay!

The STARLIGHT BEACH HOUSE is incredible and the views are fantastic! We would definitely recommend this property to others, and would stay there again next time we're in the area. It’s a beautiful and inviting home with hardwood floors, a spacious kitchen with granite counter tops and all amenities, five beautiful bedrooms and a wonderful living area. The Starlight has a super nice deck where we soaked in the jacuzzi and watched the sun set over the mountains and sipped our wine while watching the starry night sky. The sky was super clear and we could see the constellations. We also enjoyed swimming in Kootenay Lake on the private beach at the Starlight. We arrived to find the home super clean and enjoyed the beds which were super comfortable. There is even a sauna in the third bathroom which we totally enjoyed. We love the Starlight.

Disappointed!

Unfortunately the place was filled with the smell of skunk the entire time we were there. We tried to cover vents but to no avail! We had several uninvited guests at night, mice were around in the evening and seemed to be hiding out in the vents. A very old house which is showing it's wear and very little on the upkeep of the property, which is too bad, as it's a great location and beach for the kids. Very smoky this year in Nelson unfortunately.

Loved the private beach, hot tub, and proximity to Nelson!

This is a great house for families with kids and pets - lots of room for everyone to spread out (5 bedrooms, all with queens, and one with an additional loft), beautiful view of the lake from the living room, 3 decks, and hot tub. Perfect (and safe) private beach for swimming in the lake right out the back door. Very close to Nelson (a 5 or so minute drive), which is a super fun and cute town. The house is a bit beat up/old, but that makes it easy to relax and not worry about much. The hot tub was a bit dirty and cold when we arrived - needed to call maintenance and then flip the basement breaker in the morning to reheat the tub which is apparently common - meant we could not soak the first day, but it was ready by evening. Other than that, it was a fabulous week. We would definitely return.

Prime location, beautiful/large beach area, and the house provides more than enough room for 9..

We had a wonderful time and would definitely rent this property again. It is located close enough to Nelson for quick access to supplies but far enough away to avoid the common city nuisances. Our group consisted of 9 people (6 adults and 3 infants) and we had more than enough room.

Great Home and Property -Kootenay Lake

What a fabulous place to spend 1 - 4 weeks in the summer. My wife and I (seniors), celebrated a 70th birthday with our two daughters, husbands and four grandchildren (6-12 yrs. of age). The beautiful house had everything you needed, plus had a fabulous property on the water with great views looking down the lake. A large sandy beach provided great safe swimming for all (small children included) plus easy access for kayaks/canoes and larger watercraft. Twenty minutes by bike took you into the heart of Nelson while a 20 minute kayak trip took you to two beautiful secluded beaches across the lake. At night you can sit in the hot-tub overlooking the lake or just sit on one of the three decks enjoying the scenery, stars and solitude. What else to you want for a nice relaxing, fun filled holiday! We are all contemplating a future return someday.

Beautiful Nelson

This property was excellent, we rented both the cabin and the house which gave us plenty of room. The exclusive beach was perfect for kids to play and to enjoy the views. We certainly would recommend this property to people and hopefully be able to rent it again next year.

Starlight Beach House

We've just returned from a week at the Starlight Beach House and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The house is well equipped and spacious. It is asthetically pleasing but rugged and sturdy enough that we weren't worried about damaging things. The beach and views are superb. We rented kayaks from just down the road at Hellman's and that allowed us access to the sand spit which is just across the lake. When on the spit we had to remind ourselves that we were still in Canada and not in a tropical paradise. The enaging town of Nelson, just 5 kilometers away, offered a variety of delights. The hot tub is a distinct bonus. Be sure to check the heater periodically as it sometimes shuts off.

Starlight Beach House

We loved it! We stayed at the Starlight Beach House for a week in 2009 and it was cheaper than staying in a hotel plus we had our own sandy beach and spectacular view! There was tons of room for the kids and our pet dog to run around inside and out. Hanging out on the deck barbecuing was our favorite part - we could watch the kids on the beach and enjoy the jacuzzi at the same time. We definitely recommend the Starlight Beach House to anyone who wants a great place to spend their vacation hanging out with friends and loved ones. It's a beautiful place to stay! The kitchen had two fridges so lots of room for food and beverages. The bedrooms all had queen beds with really nice bedding. There were three decks so everyone had lots of privacy when they wanted. Management left several brochures and information on local sites of interest and restaurants which we found really helpful.
