About this property

Classic Vermont Farmhouse - Gorgeous Views and Privacy

Located in Vermont's beautiful Northeast Kingdom, our circa 1850 farmhouse is an oasis of hand-hewn charm and modern comfort high above the noise and worries of everyday life. Except for a nearby sugar house, we're the only place on a secluded dirt road and are surrounded by over 21 acres of fields & forest, peace & quiet (the nearest neighbor is over 1/2 mile away). However, the road is maintained year-round and the farmstead is only 1.2 miles from Vermont Route 14-- giving easy access to all the Northeast Kingdom has to offer.

The Wells Farmstead is truly a four-season paradise. Spring brings maple syrup from the sugar house just out back, along with apple blossoms and lilac festivals. In summertime, there are nearby lakes for recreation, sculling in Craftsbury, trails for hiking, farmer's markets in nearby villages and hunting for antiques. The fall is ripe with gorgeous colors, apples and wood smoke during crisp evenings. In winter, the Craftsbury Nordic Center offers renowned cross country trails, while downhill skiers will find Stowe, Smuggler's Notch, Jay Peak, Burke, Sugarbush or Mad River Glen from 45 to 90 minutes from the farm!

If you are interested in food and craft brewing, you'll find Hill Farmstead Brewery, Jasper Hill Farm, Pete's Greens and Hardwick ('the town that food saved') just minutes away.

For rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation, no matter the season, come home to Wells Farmstead in Craftsbury, Vermont!

Great little spot

Great secluded spot, nice and roomy, very nice view from the kitchen nook table. Great place to stay to get away from your busy life and just relax. The Craftsbury General store has pizza way better than you would expect for a general store in the middle of a tiny town in Vermont.

Christmas and Hanukkah in Vermont

We had a great visit overall. There was lots of room. Lots of amenities. Plenty of linens, pots and pans and other kitchen amenities. There was a wonderful welcome basket that included a pancake mix, syrup, coffee, and wine. There is a great general store nearby. It is in the middle of nowhere but it was nice to be away. The house has some things that need work but nothing you can’t work with. Great owner and property overall.

Antique farmhouse with views

We traveled with family to see the total solar eclipse and had beautiful weather. The farmhouse is spacious and bright and very cozy. It sits up on a ridge with beautiful views across the valley. Perfect place for a family gathering or quiet getaway.

Lovely Vermont farmhouse that was especially well suited to our group, two families meeting for a weekend of skiing at the Outdoor Center. Kitchen is exceptionally well stocked with anything you could need. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home.

Wonderful Vermont Farmhouse Stay!

Our family had a great, relaxing stay at this property in Vermont. Great farmhouse with plenty of land, privacy, and quiet- was the perfect way to rest and recharge at the end of the summer. Perfect, classic New England experience! We were pleased with the home and property and would love to stay there again.

Cozy house near Craftsbury

We had a lovely stay at this comfortable and quiet farmhouse. The house and kitchen were well stocked, and we grabbed food at the nearby Craftsbury General Store to cook dinner. House was clean, beds were comfy. The living rooms are a little small, so not great space to hang out and relax in for more than one person (TV is in the bedroom). We easily went back and forth to the Craftsbury Outdoor Center, and would stay here again.

Beautiful

We loved our stay at Jay's house, it was quiet, clean, and had beautiful views. Plenty of room for the dogs and a nice road to walk them on. The only traffic was the occasional vehicle checking on the sugaring operation. The kids had yard space to play and a nice area upstairs to themselves. We'd definitely stay again.

Amazing Vermont Farmhouse

What a place. Situated in the midst of beautiful fields. Peaceful and quiet. We were able to ski right out the front door. The place was spotless, super comfy beds, and everything you need to make for a relaxing and comfortable weekend. Great location, close to Stowe, Craftsbury Nordic Center. We will definitely be back to do more exploring.

Great fall getaway for family gathering

Our group of six adults found this farmhouse to be charming and comfortable for our family gathering. The location is somewhat remote, but we enjoyed walking in the area and then driving to go hiking. The kitchen was well stocked and the appliances worked well. We were able to sit around the kitchen table to eat and play games. The welcome basket of treats was a lovely bonus! Overall, a great stay!

Mostly good, with some reservations

Although aspects of this house were lovely—idyllic location, proximity to skiing and general store, art work, bedroom furnishings and bedding, spaciousness of kitchen— the house was in need of repairs and updating and some aspects were disappointing. We still enjoyed our visit and might return.

Peace and quiet, beautiful views

The house is a great combination of old VT farmhouse and modern comfort. Beds and couches are comfortable, shower is strong. The well-stocked kitchen has just about every pot, pan, and gadget imaginable. The host has really anticipated any and all needs! The property is serenely quiet, with only The Jones Family farm's maple sugaring shack around the corner from the house. You look out on green fields and the hills and farms of Craftsbury. The garden plantings are lovely, too. Our dog loved zooming around on the mowed paths and exploring the trail up past the sugar shack. We hope to come back some day.

a wonderful countryside vacation!

If you're looking for a peaceful and quite vacation Jay's house in Craftsbury is the place. The house is very spacious and comfortable. It might look old at first, but all the important amenities have been updated. The yard offers stunning views of the area, the star-link internet worked great for us (a family of six with 3 teenagers). Craftsbury township is really nice, and the general store had everything we needed. Nothing is too far from Craftsbury. If you are looking for lakes, hikes or Mountain biking you can easily find it all in the area. The road to the house is not paved, and a AWD car is recommended. We will come back, for sure.

The Vermontiest

This house exceeded our expectations when we imagined the Vermont farmhouse in which we'd stay. It has all of the character and charms of an old New England house, and lacked none of the amenities we'd left behind in the city. The hillside location provides gorgeous views of the area, and the fields surrounding the house make you really feel like you're in the country. It's just up the road from a working dairy. In August, the garden on the property was full of strawberries and squash, and wild berries and apples were abundant throughout the area. It doesn't get any Vermontier than this.

Fabulous property for outdoor lovers

I was traveling with family and dogs, and my top priority was finding good walking/hiking opportunities right out the door, without having to pay a park or community usage fee. This house was perfect for that - the host had a flexible policy regarding pets, the property was on a private dirt road, and was adjacent to fields which had mown trails into the nearby woods. The interior of the house was well appointed. Once we received clarification from the host on the status of certain items, we did not want for anything further for the rest of our stay. Note, however: this is an antique farmhouse, so old house can equal certain quirks. If you walk in expecting a homogeneous hotel experience, you’ll need to recalibrate your expectations. The host is excellent with his response time and with the helpfulness of his responses, though! If we need lodging again in that area of Vermont, we would book again, no hesitation!

Wonderful

We had a lovely time at the Farmhouse. It's warm, welcoming (a big basket of Vermont goodies was left for us on the kitchen table, including homemade maple syrup) and in a gorgeous setting surrounded by fields, forest and apple trees. There is a grill, a firepit, a lawn to play croquet on and it's located at the end of a road on a hill (it's easy to let your kids out the door to play). Pete's Greens and the General Store and the Coop in Hardwick are stocked with great bread, produce and cheeses. There are plenty of wonderful day trips--Stowe, St. Johnsbury, Crystal Lake, Glover, Lake Willoughby, Newport--just be prepared to drive. Internet was a bit wonky until we reset the router. Phone service in general isn't great in the Northeast Kingdom, which I personally like, except for my utter reliance on GPS. But really, we had everything we needed.

Rural VT Farm- a true winter wonderland

We arrived on a very cold, sub zero night. The house was warm and inviting. Walking into the kitchen and seeing the farm table and basket of local goodies was like coming home to a place reminiscent of the best rural version of "grandma's house" we could imagine. The kitchen had everything we needed for the fun meals we had planned. The morning views of the surrounding meadows and woods from the coffee nook were so delightful- binoculars included! Two sinks in the kitchen were a complete joy with all 6 of us enjoying simultaneous meal prep and cooking- no one was left out of the action! The 4 bedrooms were delightfully decorated and we were warm at night with the temps dropping to -20's. No frozen pipes and plenty of warm water in the 2 full bathrooms each of generous size with well positioned hooks, shelves and drying racks. We enjoyed the nearby Craftsbury Outdoor Center with it's excellent XC ski facility and perfectly groomed trails. We very much appreciated the washer and dryer coming home pretty wet after XC skiing. The house was stocked with all the games we could want along with cozy seating areas to enjoy reading or conversation. Plenty of room in this house which is decorated in a fun, colorful and tasteful way. We ended up using the handy tool box as we needed a screwdriver to tighten up loose battery wires - (2 dead car batteries one morning) but we were able to avoid waiting for triple A and get on our way for a second day of XC skiing. We all want to return next year! The wireless internet was not working.

A great Vermont homestead experience

My family visiting from Europe and I truly enjoyed our stay at this place. I could spend the rest of my life in this kitchen. Loved the corner area breakfast/cocktail place. All houses should have this set up this way. And what a beautiful view. Not for the city people, it might be too quiet. Personally, I love it! Thank you for hosting us. Take care. Thanks again!

It is a charming, rural Vermont getaway on a beautiful property. The driveway was a little difficult to manage in the heavy rain, and we did come home a couple of times to unknown cars on the property. Overall, it was a nice stay.
