About this property

Brookside Cottage has it all! A cozy, open concept guest house with exquisite views, Brookside is perfect for a country getaway or ski base. Located in the Hills of the Headwaters, it's close to a number of conservation areas, including the Boyne and Mono Cliffs. Hiking, skiing, golfing, snowshoeing and biking are close at hand. Big skies for astronomers and astrophotography!

We offer 32 acres of wooded trails and fields for walking or snowshoeing. The area boasts a number of fine restaurants, boutiques, farmers' markets, museums and local artisans. We are 15 min from Mansfield Ski Club, Mansfield Outdoor Centre and Hockley Resort, and 60 min from Blue Mountain and Wasaga Beach.

Ideal for couples, solo adventurers or a small family. Perfect for 2, the cottage sleeps a maximum of 4. We are dog friendly and welcome well behaved, socialized dogs for an additional fee of $20/night/dog.

Inside, rustic wood accents complement the modern amenities. In floor heating in shower area will keep you toasty in the winter and the new, fully stocked kitchen is perfect for cooking and is open to the living space, fireplace and entertainment area. Upstairs is a small loft and a bedroom with a queen-sized bed. (additional queen-sized double high air mattress bed or twin double high air mattress bed can be provided for children and extra guests) From every window, you'll have a view of the Mulmur Hills.

Brookside Cottage has dedicated WiFi, Satellite SmartTV, Disney Netflix, Prime (login with your account), DVD player/movies and Xbox.

Recommend snow tires/AWD/or 4x4 in winter months as the area can be blustery.

Lovely weekend spot

Lovely pace for a weekend away to unwind and have some quality time! The horses enjoyed some apples and we had fun with walks on the property and playing games from the chest of well stocked board games

Rural paradise

Relaxing Getaway

Had a wonderful time at the cabin for a few days. Enjoyed the beautiful hiking trails in the area that the host (Taria) suggested. Cabin had everything you needed to make it feel like a home away from home. Loved sampling some of their homemade maple syrup from the farm. Definitely recommend!!

Nice hidden getaway

The cottage is a cozy place with almost everything provided, and we even hade a chance to feed the horses. Highly recommended for family with young kids.

Love this spot!

Second time staying at the Brookside Cottage. Beautiful place to be and really gives you a chance to unwind. Taria is a fabulous host and always respects your privacy. Great place to relax

Beautiful Retreat

Well kitted out cottage and friendly host

We stayed at Taria’s cottage with our two kids and had a wonderful time. The cottage is very well stocked with everything you need for a country getaway. Loads of board games, blankets to snuggle under by the fire, slippers, hot cocoa, etc. It’s a charming cottage on a beautiful property. My kids also enjoyed meeting the horses.

Beautiful retreat in the woods

This cozy cabin was a beautiful quiet retreat. Everything you need is on-site including an incredibly well-appointed cabin and peaceful hiking trails. If you do require assistance or have any questions, Taria responds in record time. Lastly, our dog was treated like royalty and loved the surprise treats. Thank you so much to Taria and Dietrich. We have already booked for next year!

Another Great Stay

This was our third stay at Brookside, as always sparkling clean cottage with all the amenities you could ask for. The dogs loved running around the property and sitting beside the horses as we gave them some carrots. This is a must place to visit if you just want to get away for a few days. We'll be back in the spring.

Clean and cozy

Taria was wonderful and welcoming. The cottage was clean and comfortable. We had everything we needed. Her pups are inquisitive and energetic. Defiantly bring a couple of bundles of carrots or apples for the horses. They are are eager to be your friend. The property has lovely trails and there are near by trails too. If you like to hike defiantly check out the Mono Cliffs (reservation req.) and Splitrock Narrows (free) especially the Narrows Side Trail.

Quiet, clean, pleasant. Owners are amazing, extremely thoughtful and organized. Tons of amenities that help make your experience a comfortable one. The grounds are excellent for taking a nice stroll (bring apples for the horses!).

A rare gift of quiet and stillness

This was our second stay at Brookside Cottage and we love the place. Living in a city, one forgets how quiet the country can be. Sitting out on the deck of the cottage and listening to the morning birds while drinking coffee is such a pleasure. Despite dire weather predictions, we had two very nice days of sun and clear nights, so I was able to do some astrophotography in the dark night sky. It is a real pleasure to be able to look up at the night sky and see so much more than we can see in the light-polluted city. We did a short hike through the woods on the property and that was quite enjoyable as well. It was a very enjoyable stay and with the wonderful Mrs. Mitchell's Restaurant just five minutes away, we had everything we needed. I highly recommend Brookside Cottage for a relaxing and quiet country getaway.

First stay through Vrbo and it’s a Perfect One!!

Great way to disconnect from city and live in nature. Clean, spacious room with lots of outdoor area to walk and unwind. My pet also had a joyful time :) The host is very accommodating and helpful. We will definitely come back in future. Once again thank you for hosting us!!

Relaxing Time Away

Beautiful cottage/home with all that you can ask for. Enjoyed the property and nights out by the fire. Our two dogs loved walking beside the horses as well as the trails not far from the front door. For those looking to get away this is the place. Brought my telescope up to take some photos. There is an outlet at the back of the cottage so bring an extension cord at least 50-70 feet if you want to set up on the wooden deck. Full views East, South and West!! We will be back

Loved this place!

Taria and Dietrich are wonderful hosts and their place is beautiful! We wanted to get away for a quiet weekend and really enjoyed our stay here. Taria and Dietrich go above and beyond. Every detail has been thought of - Quality plates, glasses and mugs, lots of bowls, cutting boards, plenty of small appliances. Hotel towels, Tommy Hilfiger sheets, comfortable bed, heated shower floor, comfortable seating are just a few details that made our stay amazing. These details are often overlooked, but not here! The décor is beautiful and fit the place very well. Entertainment wise, there is a nice big flat screen TV with a Bell satellite, Xbox 360 and a Sony Bluetooth speaker. It was really nice to have these amenities. We didn't get out for a fire, but the firepit area looks really nice and super inviting with plenty of comfortable seating. Too bad we missed out on this, maybe next time. The hiking trails on the property are well maintained and you could easily get in 5kms.

Dietrich and Taria van Weesenbeek have been living in the local area for over 20 years.
We love the peace and quiet of our home, our dogs and horses and spending time riding, playing tennis and skiing.

As your hosts, you'll find us respectful of your privacy, but available anytime you need assistance. Dietrich speaks English and Dutch. Taria speaks English and Finnish.

Why they chose this property

We looked for a number of years before we found the property we knew we'd never want to leave. It was an opportunity to bring our love of horses home with us. This area is special to us as it brings us closer to nature, provides us with the privacy and calm that we wanted yet close to every day amenities.

What makes this property unique

We fell in love with the expansive views and the ever changing scenery. We often sit out, or from our window watching weather coming in, or the daily changes we see as the seasons change. We're a stones throw from fabulous hiking in Dufferin Hi-lands and Beaver Valley.
