Tranquil waterfront escape with gorgeous views & a touch of history
Cedar Lodge is located in historic Te Wahapu. Just 10 minutes drive from Russell township. The Property goes all the way to the waterfront and beach below and is just 40 metres away from the house via stairs.
The house is set among mature native trees and boasts beautiful panoramic views out over Te Wahapu Bay from all areas.
The house is on 3 levels (with staircases to each level) with 2 bedrooms and a bathroom on the top floor, the living areas and master bedroom and ensuite on the main floor and then a private third bedroom on the lower floor. Because of this layout the house is a perfect base for not only a family or group of friends but also ideal for a couple who wish to just get away from it all.
There are 2 living/dining areas, which both have their own fireplace. 1 indoor with a woodburner for winter heating, and 1 covered outdoor with a large open fire for those evening debrief sessions following a busy day at the beach or exploring further afield. There is also outdoor dining on the large front deck for taking in the gorgeous views all day long.
The kitchen is fully equipped with plenty of space for enjoying at home catering and the BBQ is close by for those Kiwi classic meals.
Kayaks are available by prior arrangement.
Car parking is on the driveway with room for 2 cars (maximum). Please note the driveway is very steep and parking is best accessed by reversing in.
Due to the layout of the interior we are unable to accept young children (under age 6) sorry.
Please note the listing is for a maximum 6 guests only. Should you wish to bring more than this number please enquire for prior approval (Additional costs apply)
We provide a supply of firewood for guests to use during their stay. As we also provide a heat pump inside and heaters in rooms it is expected that this is for a ambience in the evenings and therefore the fires are not to be kept burning permanently. Excessive firewood consumption will be considered an extra expense and guests will be charged for this at a rate of $100 per 1/2 cubic meter.

Arrived to the air con on which was very thoughtful on a hot day after travelling north. A very generous home, great for our family of 6 grown. Lots of areas for everyone to spread out. The view is amazing. The birdsong was music. An easy path down to the water. Lots of board games to enjoy. Took in Russell and Paihia sites via ferry. Shower pressure in both bathrooms was theraputic! Thankyou for sharing this lovely home. Our family escape here was special this Wairangi werkend.
The view is gorgeous and position with its own beach is fabulous. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Loved the extra touch of beach towels and use of kayaks. We enjoyed the outside eating areas.
If you are squeamish about very steep driveways or have hip issues think again . There is no on street parking as an option.
The other issue that we had with 3 couples staying was that there is an ensuite on ground level ( no other toilet) , / beds and bathroom on top level ( one bedroom tiny)
and no bathroom on lower level with bedroom . So a night visit to the bathroom is up 2 floors and up very steep stairs.
So it’s better for 2 couples who are ok with steep stairs.
Such an amazing stay! Such a beautiful place to get away! Highly Recommend to everyone!
Amazing house, Beautiful place to be at. The house had everything. A update on the photos would be good though too! The house is much better in person too
We loved our stay here. It was so comfortable staying here we hardly ventured out much. The premises had everything we needed to make our stay very comfortable. The shower pressure was awesome. Would definitely recommend!
Property was lovely but just a few minor faults, the showers were hard to control the temp plus there was very little water pressure.
Also the lighting in the main room was slightly dim, other than that it was a fab place.
Hi I'm Kelly and I run Bay of Islands Hideaways. My husband and I have 3 young children and are lucky enough to call the Bay of Islands our home. I firmly believe when travelling that you truly get to know and appreciate a place so much more when you can stay and experience life like a local. Because of this I love the opportunities that holiday home rentals can provide for both myself and those staying in the houses I look after. I take care of several properties in the area and get great enjoyment from meeting new people from all over the world and sharing in their experiences of our beautiful area. As a family we love to get outside as much as possible. Whether its pottering around home in our garden, heading out to the beach or getting out on the water for some fishing
Why they chose this property
Russell just has everything you could possibly need for a great time away. There are world class restaurants right on the waterfront with a to die for view of the sunset nearly every evening. There are wonderful activities and attractions all within easy reach with historic places such as Christs church and Pompallier house right in town and out in the bay dolphin watching, sailing and islands tours leaving every day
What makes this property unique
There not too many properties around that have direct access to the water on the property. The peaceful outlook over Pomare Bay is stunning at all times of the day and the house being set amongst so many mature Totara and other native trees means you are right up with the birds on the top balcony. When you have finished taking in the views you can then retire to the large outdoor or indoor lounges to continue the days conversations and perhaps enjoy one of the houses huge selection of board games for a bit of fun.
