Welcome to Otter Point House, a one of a kind residence built adjacent to a rocky headland overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The Otter Point House sits on over an acre of land with an expansive view of the coastline, the straight of Juan de Fuca, and the snow-capped U.S. Olympic Mountain Range.

From many viewpoints throughout the house you can see abundant marine life, tranquil sunrises, moonlit waters, and enjoy exhilarating storm watching. Enjoy watching bald eagles perch on the nearly 700 year old Douglas fir trees situated on the property, or watch a pod of Orcas swim by while a seal lies on the nearby rocks.
The Otter Point House is beautifully landscaped in the tradition of the west coast, has direct ocean access via the back of the property, and an enchanting beach cove for your personal enjoyment, as well as private path through old growth rainforest leading to the nearby Otter Point Regional Park.

Amazing Stay at Otter Point House

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Otter Point House. Clean, well equipped, very comfortable beds and rooms, and the views are out of this world. We saw wildlife including Bald Eagles, Otters, and Seals. Close to Victoria, but also loved our drive to Port Renfrew….and the Port Renfrew Pub was amazing!

Beautiful house & helpful host

I stayed here with a group of friends in Dec 2024. It was clean, easy to access from Sooke, and the host was very clear and helpful in communicating everything we needed to know about check-in and rules. It's a spacious house with a beautiful view across the ocean from the enormous windows in the main room. The short walk down to the rocky beach is also very nice. I'd happily stay here again.

An amazing place for a family get together

The house and location were perfect for our family gathering of 7 adults 2 children and 2 infants. What a stunning setting! The downstairs bedroom and suite were ideal for the couple with the baby who screams at night...none of the rest of us heard anything. The large living room is gorgeous with its floor to ceiling windows overlooking the Juan de Fuca strait. We loved the deck and outside seating and went down and enjoyed the private cove. The kitchen is very well supplied. We were there on several hot days in early July. My only complaint is that not all the bedroom blinds were very effective. On the upside, those of us sleeping on the south side of the house were up for early morning coffee on the deck as the sky was turning pink...beautiful! Lots of parking. Thank you !

Excellent family gathering place

Spectacular views greeted us as we enjoyed our family gathering here. The property has a great layout; the bedrooms were comfortable; and the kitchen was well appointed. We saw whales, eagles, dolphins and sea lions- all from the property! And the private cove was a perfect place to fish, snorkel and paddle board. What a great place!

Best VRBO for larger group of friends + family!

Where do I start?! If you think these photos are stunning, they don’t even do this beautiful property justice! It is the perfect mixture of modern comfort and ruggedness of the ocean and beach - of course, including its own private stony beach to lounge by. The views were outstanding, and we even saw whales from the patio! We arrived and I was blown away by how gorgeous, clean and spacious it was. I stayed with a group of 9 friends and we never felt crowded with the amount of bedrooms and free spaces to lounge and rest. Incredibly well stocked in the kitchen with dishes and cookware, seasonings and oils, teas and coffee, and condiments (unless perhaps left by previous guests - which was appreciated if so)! The beds were very comfortable, and water pressure was nice for showers as well. Multiple spaces for outdoor access, including a private balcony with the master suite, balcony access on the main level, and yard/ground patio for those on the ground floor. The two suites with two kitchens made it more comfortable to store more groceries, as with a group, two fridges is ideal. Check in and check out was very simple, and I always had prompt and professional communication from Fred prior and during our stay as needed. Would highly recommend staying at Otter Point, and I look forward to having another reason to come back again! Thank you for hosting us!

Mesmerizing views

The views from this property are absolutely amazing! We had an eagle eating its catch right in the 700-year-old tree in front of the living room. The beds are super comfy, the house is very clean and it is stocked with all that you need. The welcome basket was a very nice surprise. We had a memorable girls' getaway and want to thank the host for our time here. We will be back!

Amazing Stay!

Amazing stay as usual. We first visited OPH in September 2020 and were taken away by the hospitality, in addition to the orcas in the morning. Fred was very responsive, and welcomed us to the home with a welcome basket full of gifts and a nice local Gin. The home was clean and equipped with everything we needed during our stay. Would recommend anyone who is looking for a great relaxing getaway to book with Fred! Will definitely be returning to OPH. Until next time

Otter point house

This house was amazing. Perfect for a group of 9 people. It is very well appointed ( in fact one of the best ones we have rented in years). The location was great with the private beach that provided lots of endless entertainment for the three children (3,8,12). Great views . Lots of wild life ( sea lions, bald eagles, quails, deer, and orcas in the distance. Overall a really lovely place where we would return in a heat beat. The location offers lots of things to do locally without long car rides. Rob the manager was very helpful.

Wonderful satay at Otter point.

Very pleasant stay. The house was big and bright. We love to sit on the balcony and watch the eagles and fishing boats. The private beach was a bonus. Beautifully equipped kitchen except the ice machine on the refrigerator was broken. Love the place and location.

Ocean Dream

Our stay was exactly what I thought it would be. The view of the strait was amazing and we saw a pod of orcas (approx. 15) swim right past us and a seal obviously hiding from them right off the rocks. There was plenty of room for the 10 of us aging from 1.5 to 55. Kitchen was well stocked, lots of bedrooms and bathrooms. The hideabeds were uncomfortable but show me one that isn't. Pulled the mattress out and placed it on the floor and it was wonderful! The beach is actually all rocks (no sand) but lots of little things to find and there are beaches not far down the road. Highly suggest the Sooke Potholes!! We played bocci in the driveway as the yard is a bit sloped but just made the game more interesting. Lots of room for parking, we had 2 large trucks and 1 smaller one with still plenty of room. The view from the decks was amazing early in the morning and throughout the day. I would highly recommend the Otter House.

Awesome stay. Again.

This was a second time we stayed at this property and we all enjoyed it again. Private beach is an absolute crown jewel. House is old but well maintained. Perhaps needs some more details. We didn't have any shampoo in any bathrooms, needs more then one hair blower, but on the other hand we had new, high quality bbq. Some outdoor chairs were old and barely alive.

A dream vacation

A beautiful get a way at a beautiful house. My family and I fully enjoyed waking up to the ocean view every morning. The house was clean and spacious and provided all the essentials for a lovely stay. We fully enjoyed fishing off the rocks in the backyard and the private beach is such a gem. Its been days since our trip and the family is still talking about this place. I highly recommend this property.

Excellent location, some updating needed

Positives: The location and the space in the house was excellent! The communication with the manager was very good. Needs improvement: cleanliness and updates - the house needs a deep cleaning...carpets, walls, handrails, windows, sills, furniture needs to be moved for cleaning- the bbq is old and not only level ground, carpet is stained and older, some boards on outside steps need to be replaced. Overall, we had a great experience here despite some of the issues listed.

Beautiful West Coast spot

This property is one of the most stunning locations we have seen in all our rentals over the years along the B.C. coast. The rocky outlook and hidden beach boasted views of seals, boats, and the Olympic peninsula mountains in the distance, with star gazing at night. Our two families with teens had tons of room to spread out, with a kitchen supplied with top notch culinary wares and plenty of bathrooms. You won’t want to leave the peaceful, private setting, but groceries and fresh crab are close in Sooke and the kids enjoyed the potholes park for swimming.

This place is amazing!

We had this house booked for 8 people and it felt very spacious. We had everything we needed. We swam at our own private rocky beach, fished off the rocks, and saw tons of orcas, and otters right from our back yard. Sooke amenities were only 10min drive away.

Great spot for our family reunion. Lots of space, excellent facilities and great communication with host Rob. The view is spectacular! It would have been nice to have an outdoor seating area to eat dinner with all of us and the pull-out couch in one of the rooms isn’t too comfortable, but overall a true gem!

My family and have many great memories over the years of time spent at Otter Point House. We look forward to sharing this special place with you to make some of your own life long memories

What makes this property unique

There is an abundance of activities to do while staying at the Otter Point House.

Salmon Fishing. Experience the thrill of reeling in a 30 - 40 lb. salmon or battling a giant halibut, weighing in at up to 100+ lbs. Sooke offers some of the best salmon fishing in the world and is also known for its world-class halibut fishing. Many fishing charters are based out of Sooke Harbour Marina. Additionally you can rent fishing equipment in town and fish right of the rocks at Otter Point House. Otter Point Park is immediately adjacent and generally considered the best place to shore fish in the Sooke area.
Whale Watching. Looking for an exhilarating west coast marine adventure? Jump aboard a whale watching marine tour. These tours depart from the Sooke basin and explore the Strait of Juan de Fuca in search of Killer Whales, Porpoises, Gray and Humpback Whales as well as a handful of smaller marine life such as seals, sea lions and various species of birds.

Dining. Though Sooke is a modest size, it punches above its weight for culinary options and offers a variety of dining experiences, from fine dining to pubs and cafes.

Beaches. There are many stunning beaches and parks to be discovered in the Sooke Region including the easy-to-get-to Whiffen Spit but if you would like to go on a bit of an excursion to find something more secluded, try a trip to Botanical Beach, China Beach, French Beach, Sombrio Beach, or Mystic Beach.

Hiking. Some of the best hiking on Vancouver Island can be found in the Sooke Region. Vast networks of trails, some many well marked, some not, can take you on an adventure through the rainforest, beaches or up along Hurricane Ridge and the Kludak trails in the alpine zone. Don’t miss Sooke Potholes Provincial Park, these natural pools are carved into Sooke River’s bedrock.

Biking. Sooke is poised to become the outdoor recreation capital of Vancouver Island- with mountain biking as the prominent jewel in its heavily encrusted crown.
