About this property

Beautiful stone built farmhouse with private pool and garden.

Le Grand Juvet was originally built as the stud farm to the local Chateau and is a magnificent collection of stone buildings complete with tower. We live on site in the tower so are here to greet you and help with anything you need to make your holiday a great one, yet you have a the privacy of your own courtyard and pool. We have set out to provide spacious accommodation with peaceful, private outside space where we hope you will relax and enjoy the lovely scenery. If you can drag yourself away from the property we are in a great situation for exploring some stunning countryside. We have swimming lakes with beaches, marked walking and cycling trails, fishing, horse riding etc all available locally. We have one other property on site which we also rent out, see link at end of description. We have set up each property and their outside space so that everyone has privacy and uninterrupted views but we do also have communal areas for those who like to socialise.

Ground Floor -
Large Farmhouse Kitchen - range cooker (gas hob, electric double ovens), dishwasher and full size fridge/freezer. Fireplace with woodburner. Large kitchen table. Plenty of storage.
Shower room/WC.
Bedroom 1 - King size bed, lovely dual aspect views over garden and valley, French doors out onto balcony with access to garden.
First Floor -
Bedroom 2 - Kingsize bed and full set of bedroom furniture, beautiful views over the orchard
Bedroom 3 - Two single beds and full set of bedroom furniture, view over the courtyard.
Bathroom - Large family bathroom
Living room - with UK freesat TV, woodburning stove.

Notes on accommodation:
Having sampled a number of gites ourselves over the years we have set out to provide something that we struggled to find - spacious accommodation with large rooms, nicely decorated, well furnished, more than enough equipment and a private, pretty oustide area to drink a glass of wine and admire the view. We hope that is what we have achieved.
The farmhouse has been recently renovated / restored. We have tried to use wallpaper and paint colours which are sympathetic to its proportions and character. The property is not adapted for wheelchair use but could be considered for those with reduced mobility as one bedroom is on the ground floor with direct access to a balcony. The en suite for this bedroom has a walk in shower. Message us if you need more detailed info on suitability.

We have animals on site - horses and chickens. They are housed well away from your accommodation but for those guests who wish to be involved with the animals they are more than welcome to join me in my daily duties of feeding, watering, collecting eggs, grooming horses etc.

Outside:
The farmhouse has its own private courtyard with outdoor table and chairs, parasol, plunge pool and BBQ, accessed directly from your accommodation.

In total we have 15 acres of land. The entire property is securely fenced and gated so children are safely contained and have plenty space to expend some energy! We have mountain bikes for guests use.

Quiet Easter Get Away

We had a lovely time in Maxine and Daren's beautiful farmhouse in rural France. The setting was perfect for a relaxing week away. The weather was a bit hit and miss but the hosts provided a games area for the boys to play which was a lovely gesture and they really enjoyed it. The boys also really enjoyed visiting the farm animals up close and if they could have brought them back to the UK, they would have. Thank you for a lovely relaxing week.

Fabulous week

We had an amazing week, the house, grounds and surrounding area is stunning. The house is spacious, clean and has everything you can possibly need. The pool was a great place to relax overlooking the calming countryside. Maxine and Darren were extremely lovely. The animals on site were an added bonus - Haggis & Hamish the baby goats made the week very special! Not forgetting the beautiful horses. We would love to rebook.

Beautiful house, peaceful location.

We were warmly welcomed by Maxine when we arrived. She showed us around, told us what we needed to know, and left us with their contact number if we needed or wanted anything. The house was lovely, and had everything we could need. The garden was secure for the dogs and our private pool area was lovely. We could.not have wanted for more. The area was beautiful, very peaceful. Maxine helped us arrange a vet appointment prior to our return, which made life easy. Great location, lots to see within a short drive, but remote enough to enjoy the night stars. Would reccomend this to all my friends, and we will definately return.

Awesome Family Holiday!

We are just on our way back after 2 lovely weeks at Le Grand Juvet. We travelled as 2 families, 4 adults, 2 children and 2 dogs. The house is beautifully decorated, clean and has everything you need. The owners Maxine and Darren are lovely hosts, they made us feel right at home. The kids loved the chickens, peacocks, cat, horses and goats, most of which are roaming around the property. We were lucky enough to meet some of the baby chicks! They also have a lovely dog who was very well trained and great with our dogs. It was a good experience for our dogs being around so many different animals! All the animals are very chilled, following their owners energy. The pool was great for the kids, and having the dogs with us made the whole thing very enjoyable. Maxine tacked up her horse for my daughter to sit on, which was very much appreciated by all! They gave us some great information about the surrounding villages and where to go. It's in a very rural part of France, we enjoyed a walk to the local village for lunch, but you do need a car or transport to get around. The roads are very quiet and all the locals are very friendly. The fresh eggs every day were amazing! We couldn't have asked for a nicer 2 weeks away, great memories made in a beautiful location. 5 star - we would definitely recommend!

Idyllic location & beautiful accommodation

Perfect place for a relaxing family holiday. As a party of 4 adults, with one who loves to cook, the farmhouse style kitchen & great cooking facilities was a real bonus, everything we needed to prepare family meals, also included a great BBQ in our private outside area. Hosts were perfect, lovely welcome then left us to our own devices but were often around within the grounds if needed. We'd definitely stay here again & would highly recommend to others.

Really lovely stay

We had a really lovely long weekend, it is both wonderfully isolated and yet easy to access towns and villages, including Limoges by car. Maxine and Darren were really lovely and very helpful, the animals were a joy and I would definitely consider visiting again

Amazing - Definitely a home from home

Maxine and Darren were great. The house is just beautiful and has everything you need for it to feel like a home from home. Our 3 year old found a new best friend in Percy the Peacock, the seimming lakes nearby make the location just stunning. Unfortunately for us we brought the english weather for the first 4 days but after that the weather matched the location and house and was just gorgeous. Thank you so much Maxine and Darren we didnt know what to expect when we arrived but your beautiful house thoroughly exceeded every expectation.

Wonderful relaxing time

Thank you so much to Maxine and Darren. We had a wonderful time at your beautiful gîte. The rooms are large, the beds comfortable, the gardens safe and the pool is just lovely. The kitchen has everything you could ever need and more. The whole place is enchanting. We relaxed so much which was much needed. The information shared was perfect and incredibly helpful. July 2022

Writing this on the ferry on our way home from the most fabulous two weeks at the farmhouse. From the minute we arrived we were captivated by the view from the house, garden and our private pool area. It was easy to spend hours soaking up the sun and the beauty of the stunning countryside. Such a peaceful place to spend a relaxing holiday. The farmhouse itself was amazingly spacious and comfortable with plenty room for my husband and I, three semi-grown up children and two Springer Spaniels to all have our own space. The decor of the house was absolutely charming and so tasteful and the house provided everything we needed and more. The garden was spacious and fenced so our dogs were secure. The pool area with decking and sun loungers was where we spent a large part of every day and it was completely private and caught the sun all day long. We can’t even begin to compliment our hosts, Maxine and Darren, enough. They were so welcoming (even at 9.30pm when we first arrived) and so helpful. One of the first mornings of the holiday, our Springer Spaniel Hollie, got a grass seed in her ear on our walk and was very unhappy. I messaged Maxine and Darren at 7.30am and they sorted a vet appointment for us and clear directions, and Hollie was seen by 8.45am! They were so relaxed and made us feel very welcome in the stunning home they have created. Without a doubt, the best holiday we have had in France!

Perfect French Getaway

The property was easy to find, only 45 mins from Limoges Airport. Where the property is situated is absolutely beautiful, surrounded by countryside and the local boulangerie a (hilly) bike ride or very short drive away. A day trip out, meant we could kayak on the Dordogne which was great fun! I’d recommend Pépé Lucian for their burgers if you’re looking for somewhere to eat - this was a lovely town to explore too. Maxine and Darren were fantastic hosts and very accommodating (thank you for the board games!). Overall, this was a wonderful part of France to visit, made all the more special because we chose to stay at this property!

A relaxing home-from-home

We all loved this holiday property from the moment we arrived - it far exceeded our expectations and the photos really don't do it justice. The property was spacious, homely and extremely well equipped. The balcony off the ground floor bedroom was a great place to have breakfast or drinks. The pool area was private and secluded - our dog also loved the freedom of having her own garden, which allowed her to settle better than we'd dared hope. The location is very rural which allows for plenty of rest and relaxation. However, a car is essential to experience the local attractions on offer, but the roads are often empty, so driving is stress-free. This location would appeal to people who enjoy the pleasures of exploring the countryside and relish its peace and tranquillity. Maxine and Darren were extremely friendly and accommodating, helping to arrange an appointment at the local vets for our dog's return trip to the UK and also booking a table at the local restaurant, which is also highly recommended. A perfect holiday, which has left us de-stressed and re-energised.

Beautiful Farmhouse

We stayed in the larger of the two properties , The Farmhouse, with our daughter, husband and grandaughter. The farmhouse is beautifully presented and well equipped and far exceeded our expectations. The layout was ideal for our family group, with bathrooms and bedrooms on both levels. The rooms are amazingly proportioned and have an instant french family feel about them. Our 4 year old granddaughter loved the freedom of exploring the gardens, with toys from the games room, chickens and a variety of bugs to discover and keep her entertained. We spent plenty of time in the pool which is perfectly placed to take advantage of the views across the valley and was ideal for cooling down on the hot lazy days. Whilst having the feeling of remoteness, it was only a five minute drive to the boulangerie at Janailhac for breakfast croissants etc, and about 20 minutes to the nearest town for further supplies. The area is ideal for exploring and visiting lakes , caves, chateaux, and Park Zoo Reynou is not too far away. Maxine and Darren are excellent hosts, sharing their local knowledge and suggesting places to visit, and also kindly offered additional assistance when we had a problem with one of our cars, which was very much appreciated! We would definitely recommend the cottage for a lovely relaxing holiday with plenty of space for everyone.

Idyllic setting with fantastic hosts

This was a stunning place to stay, both the property itself, and the surrounding area. It's very spacious both inside and out, and a very safe environment for children. The combination of the pool, games room, and the farm animals was enough to keep everyone entertained, but there are also plenty of places to visit in the local vicinity. We enjoyed cycle rides, pony trekking, a day in Espace Hermeline (tree top adventure, velorail, zip wires), and a few visits to nearby towns. Hosts Maxine and Darren couldn't have been more welcoming, and were able to offer plenty of information on where to go.

Beautiful property in a lovely location

We stayed here, in the farmhouse, late May / early June 2018. The property was lovely, and more than big enough for the 6 of us (4 adults, 2 children). It has been beautifully furnished, and was well-equipped with everything we needed for our stay. The outdoor space is fantastic - we made good use of the pool, outside seating areas and BBQ, and enjoyed meeting the horses and chickens! The games room was also a welcome addition. The house is in a very quiet area, but within easy reach of many beautiful locations, and a wide-range of activities. Particular favourites with the children were the aquarium at Limoges, the Parc Zoo Reynoud, and L'Aquopolis (family swimming pool), all within half an hour drive. The caves at Grotte De Villars, near the beautiful town of Brantome, was also well worth a trip out, as was Lac De Vassiviere (a lake in the hills, with stunning scenery). Many thanks go to Maxine and Darren, the fantastic owners, who were on hand to assist with anything needed, and gave us some great recommendations for places to visit locally. We had a lovely stay, and would recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxing holiday, but with enough to do to keep you occupied.

Bliss.

Simply bliss. We stayed at Juvet for a week with the family. Bit if a mission to get there, more my dodgy driving and getting lost on the scenic route than their fault, but having a car with a good sat nav or a good map will get you there safely. The location is rural but more than perfect for the weeks stay. First impressions are WOW (yes in capitals). The interior decor is beautiful and Maxine and Darren have spent time, money and glorious ideas getting it right. Each room is just spot on in rustic French farm charm. Downstairs is nicely laid out and the kitchen has everything you need, the downstairs bathroom and bedroom are huge and the bed is very comfortable. The upstairs is lovely with a double and two singles room plus another bathroom. The outside is lovely with rolling countryide and a delightful pool, big enough for the kids to spend their hours in there. The hidden gem is the games room which the kids found out with table tennis, darts, table football etc. This kept them entertained. However Maxine and Darren are great, they allowed my lot to feed/take out the horses which they loved especially Scooby. They happily spent time talking with us and telling us what was around. For my boy the joys of capturing little lizards just made his day! Night time it gets very dark with no light pollution and we encountered a terrific thunder storm, with no light pollution it was amazing and just showed you how rural you are. For food shopping as said just doen the road is St Yriex La Perche are a number of supermarkets and petrol stations. For us it was a great spot as you are close enough to most things within a half hour drive or sometimes sightly longer. For kids take them to Bussiere Galant and Espace Hermeline you have the Go Ape style climbing, Velo rail for Cycling, 400m zip wire across a lake and swimming areas if you wish. It really was great fun and an experience . Further afield and near Limgoges is Ordour-sur-Glane, a step back in time WW2 village that will get you thinking - more of pondering time than a funfilled adventure for the kids but worth a visit to explain. Also have a trip to Brantmone a lovely town with a market on fridays and a beautiful place to visit for both clidren and parents, if you want to do Kayaking - book it early! As said it really was a lovely place to stay and everything was great, so good and welcoming that we had to buy a gift for Maxine and Darren for being great hosts and to say thank you.

Fabulous, spacious, idyllic place to stay

We really enjoyed our two weeks at La Roche l'Abeille and everything about it. It was lovely to have such large rooms, particularly the dining kitchen and bathroom. The pool is very private and in a beautiful setting with the owner's 3 horses in the field beyond. The accommodation is very well equipped and very clean and we were extremely comfortable. We would not hesitate to come and stay again in the future. Thank you Maxine and Darren for being such warm and friendly hosts.

A peaceful retreat

My wife and I, along with our dog Riley, spent 2 great weeks in the Farmhouse. A spacious property that became our home from home. For us it was a perfect way for us to forget about the hustle and bustle of our home town. It's rural setting meant that days could go by before you even heard the sound of a passing car. We particularly like exploring new locations and walks nearby for Riley. The property has everything you need. It was neat and tidy and everything in working order. Darren and Maxine (owners) were on hand for useful advice and a good natter. Absolutely lovely hosts. I would without doubt recommend this property to others.

We have lived in France for several years now and run two businesses, our gites and also a tree surgery business. Both of these allow us to make the most of the lovely countryside and glorious weather. We look forward to welcoming you to Le Grand Juvet.

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with this part of France. Its a beautiful area with lots of trees and lush countryside. The locals really could not have been nicer to us and we have been made so welcome. We often come home to find a neighbour has left surplus veg on our doorstep. Lots of people say its like the UK was 40 years ago when nobody had to lock doors and everyone was keen to help everyone else. Oh and coming from Scotland the weather has been a huge bonus, proper seasons and lots of sun in summer time!
