About this property

Charming period house, tucked away location in centre of town

Rose Cottage is a charming three-storey period terraced house in the very heart of Dartmouth, nestled behind the harbour and by the historic St Saviours Church. The cottage encapsulates the characterful individuality reflected in the charming buildings in this ancient yet vibrant town. Inside, modern, thoughtful décor and fittings make for the perfect romantic getaway for couples or a fun and easy holiday with friends and family – and room for a small dog, too. A parking permit is supplied for the nearby car park.

Accommodation:

The front door of this beautiful little cottage opens into a modern open-plan, combined kitchen/dining and living room area with oak flooring and worktops, which are complemented with large, comfortable lounge seating and bar dining.

The very well-equipped kitchen is complete with a large Belfast sink, solid wood worktops, a single oven, induction hob, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, microwave, and a Nespresso coffee machine (capsules aren't provided).

The living space includes a large sofa and a smaller two-seat sofa along with a cushioned window seat, and a smart TV with included NOW TV premium movies and entertainment channels.

Upstairs there are two large bedrooms, one of which is en-suite.

Bedroom one on the first floor is a large bedroom with a ' zip-and-link superking-size bed which can be divided into two full-size single beds on request at the time of booking. This versatility makes Rose Cottage perfect for a family or groups of friends. The large bay windows of this bedroom overlook St Saviours Church and down to the main High Street. There's also a built-in wardrobe, seating and a smart TV.

Bathroom one on the first floor has been recently renovated. There's a large sink and touch-sensitive light for the mirror, a bath with shower over, and a heated towel rail.

Bedroom two on the second floor has a king-size bed, dressing table, smart TV and plenty of wardrobe space. The clothes airer, iron and ironing board are here, too. Once again, this bedroom has large, sunlit windows overlooking Dartmouth's historic St Saviour's church.

Bathroom two is part of the top-floor bedroom and has a large walk-in shower with an overhead shower and a separtae handheld shower head. There's also a large basin and heated towel rail.

There's central heating throughout the cottage. Please note, though, that the log burner is for decorative purposes only.

Parking:

A parking permit is provided is for the Mayors Avenue Car Park, which is just a two-minute walk away. The permit does not guarantee a parking space, and it can get very busy during the summer and special events, such as the Royal Regatta week (during which the car park is closed).

Lovely townhouse in central location

We stayed for 4 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Location wise you are bang in the middle of town so within walking distance to all shops and a Coop for food supplies. The car park is also only a 5 min walk from the property. The property is well presented, clean and maintained. All necessary items in the kitchen as well. As we travelled with a 2 and a 5 year old we brought our own travel cot and (Ikea) high chair (5 year old was fine to sit at the bar stools). It was a bit of a squeeze but we all managed fine. I would agree with some of the previous reviews that the small outdoor space could use a little TLC; an opportunity missed there. Both bathrooms could also do with a blind for privacy. These points did not detract from our stay though!

Great location

Lovely space. Right in the middle of Dartmouth only a short walk from restaurants, ferries and car park. Noisy seagulls and church bells on the hour kept us up a bit. Beds and mattresses could do with replacing.

Great location- lovely little cottage - bedrooms quite large and bathrooms too...Church bells loud!!

All fine to rent - slight compaction with who we paid money too but overall all fine. My folks can’t walk far so location perfect for them to benefit from the holiday....

6/10 Okay

Lovely well located cottage but …

let down by a good number of irritating problems due to inconsistent maintenance/ management. It is fine for a couple of people for a couple of days as long as you mainly eat out.

Great location but some negatives

The Positives: The location of the property is excellent, situated right in the heart of Dartmouth, making it easy to explore the area. The bedrooms are spacious, bright, and clean, providing a comfortable stay. The additional bathrooms are also a nice touch, offering extra convenience during our stay. The Negatives: One major issue for me was my allergy to dogs, which meant the sofas, where dogs had clearly been, were off-limits due to pet-related allergens, posing a bit of a challenge. (Maybe my mistake for using a pet friendly property. ) The kitchen utensils were rather limited. We found ourselves reusing the same cup repeatedly since there weren’t enough to go around. The broadband connection was quite slow, ranging from 1.5 to 4 Mbps, which is not ideal for those looking to work remotely. A faster internet connection would have been much appreciated.

Cosy cottage but in need of some basic attention

Rose Cottage is well located in central Dartmouth, however we found some basic issues that need to be sorted out. Firstly, the dishwasher wasn't working properly - it didn't do any hot washes so didn't clean the dishes. Basic standards for self-catering accommodation require all beds to have a light (both sides for a double bed). Only one side of the double bed (top floor) has a lamp. On one of the beds on the second floor the lamp did not work Space to sit 4 people around the kitchen bar was limited - not very comfortable as only two people can put their legs under the table top. Shower head in top floor bathroom has a split leading to jets of water coming out sideways. Mugs and glasses in the kitchen are a poor selection of mismatched items (and overall the kitchen is poorly stocked). These are fairly basic things that should be in place and checked between rentals.

weekend in Dartmouth

A nice property in the centre of Dartmouth, well equipped with everything needed. If you want a special place to stay in the centre of Dartmouth you will not find a better place and it is next to the pub

Great central location and such a sweet place. Nice and convenient for the pub so it doesn'y matter if it's raining!

A pretty cottage in the heart of town

We had a lovely weekend at Rose Cottage. It’s perfectly placed in old Dartmouth, near the shops and cafe culture and a stone’s throw from the river. The house itself is a little tired - rainwater dropped from the pub roof into the back yard all weekend. But you are going to get quirks with an old house!

A great cottage

This was a brilliant cottage and what a location, right in the centre of town with great access to all Dartmouth has to offer, with easy free parking for one vehicle. The property was lovely and clean and the heating was on demand throughout which was great. Great communications throughout from the Dart Valley Cottages Team. My only one observation would be the need for some new crockery, but now I am being really picky

Perfect location, close to all amenities and attractions in Dartmouth, but room for improvement

Delightful cottage in ideal location - close to all amenities and attractions in Dartmouth. Not suitable for children with kitchen stools - for eating at kitchen counter (only available table space) - being very uncomfortable. Was given wrong password for wifi but when requested was given new one but wifi was very spasmodic and we were reduced to using data. There are not enough tea/coffee cups and a baking tray would be useful. Bathrooms excellent but second floor bed uncomfortable.

Happy days, nights not so good

We had a great time at Rose Cottage. The only things I could fault were the soft beds and unyielding pillows. And we could have wished that the church bell didn’t ring every hour through the night! But otherwise all was terrific, in a spotlessly clean and comfortable small house.

Rose Cottage Review

Overall accommodation was excellent, clean bedding and bathrooms. Really nicely decorated interiors. We loved the blankets downstairs! Team were really flexible with access on first day too. This was a great help. A few things we wanted to bring to your attention. - The first floor landing window and bottom half of the stable door are both in need of replacement -The courtyard is an opportunity to create a nice outdoor space which is an opportunity missed in our opinion. - Second floor bathroom could do with a blind as it’s not very private - The was a visible overspill from the upstairs waste pipe when the toilet is flushed. This might be contributing to our first point and a reason why you can’t use the outdoor space. None of these were detractors from our stay but we wanted to make you aware of them.

Nearly perfect but.....

If you want to be in the centre of town and near the waters edge, then this is lovely, and a very pretty and historic location. Well equipped with two decent bedrooms - one King and one superking, and two bathrooms, one with bath and shower over and one with a decent sized shower cubicle. The kitchen is well equipped with dishwasher, fridge and freezer and all the equipment you could need, though not great for dining as there is no table and only room for three high chairs on the island, with a high "tractor seat" that made sitting awkward as a fourth chair. Comfy settees, good televisions and a potentially great heating and water system. Only one parking permit, so if you arrive in two cars, you need to find somewhere else a bit out of town. Also , get to the Mayors car park early if you want to use the permit, as it fills up most days and is the only place you can use the permit in town, though you can use the park and ride site. You can get the car close to the house through very narrow lanes, but only for unloading and loading, Finally, there were a number of maintenance issues that need rectification, some minor and some more important, and I have advised the agent separately. These did not spoil the stay, but were a niggle. I am sure they will be fixed in the close season. Overall, we had a great time.

Stunning Visit - highly recommend

We enjoyed a fabulous week in this stunning cottage, tucked away by the church. The cottage was beautifully equipped and accommodation over 3 floors great - perfect with a teenager! Only criticism was the beds are incredibly soft which isnt my preference! I would highly recommend staying here!

Excellent cottage in a great location.

The cottage is ideally placed in the centre of Dartmouth. It was clean and very comfortable. The parking permit was really useful and it was fairly easy to find a parking space in the main car park in Dartmouth later in the day. Some of the windows in the cottage did not have blinds or curtains. For those windows in the bathrooms we ended up putting something over them as makeshift blinds. We couldn’t find a shaving point in either of the bathroom unless we missed it. Overall we enjoyed our stay in the cottage and would recommend it.

Location, location,location!

We had a lovely stay at Rose Cottage which is brilliantly located right in the centre of Dartmouth, literally just steps away from the cafés, delicatessens, shops and pubs, the river and ferries. It was cleaned to a very high standard (we are very fussy!), and well appointed- exactly as the descriptions state. The super-king sized bed was perfect for us, just like we have at home and we slept very well - hardly heard the aforementioned church bells but the seagulls were quite noisy (nothing they can do about that!). Both bathrooms were nicely fitted and we particularly liked the shower room on the upper floor, rather than the shower over the bath adjoining the first floor bedroom. We found getting a reservation for dinner in Dartmouth quite difficult due to the COVID restrictions on pubs and restaurants as most were fully booked for the week, so we cooked in the cottage more than we had planned. Everything is there if you want to do this - only thing missing was some oven gloves - and of course the M&S store near the car park was a lifesaver, as was the Co-op which is just at the end of the street from the cottage. The car park pass worked wonderfully well and it’s great that you can use it at other car parks in the South Hams area and we made good use of that privilege. We would definitely recommend Rose Cottage if you like to be in the centre of town but just be aware that it doesn’t have any usable outside space - so nowhere to sit and have that evening glass of wine (other than a pub!)
