Spacious Eco, Pet Friendly Apartments, Forest of Dean, Wye Valley

Located on a 20 acre farm and holiday estate near Lydney, nestled between the River Severn and the stunning Royal Forest of Dean. One of three chalet/bungalow style apartments (Rosy Lea, Cherry Blossom, Perry Pear). These spacious apartments are terrace with separate entrances and patios. One apartment has disabled access (Perry Pear. Please check availability of the disabled apartment before booking). Each apartment consists of two bedrooms (1 Double room and 1 Twin room), a spacious open plan living room with kitchen and dining areas. The kitchen includes gas oven, fridge (with small freezer section), microwave, cooker, toaster, kettle and tea making facilities. Each chalet has a fenced patio area with outdoor seating. In front of the terrace our visitors have access to a large field, and beautiful licensed fishing lakes - Ideal for walking the dog. We have two enclosed (fenced) areas for off lead dog exercise and a doggy dip. There is plenty of outdoor space to enjoy a leisurely barbecue or picnic. We have lovely views across a valley and surrounding grazing and farmland. Day tickets can be booked for fishing on our lakes whilst onsite. There is ample parking. This is a pet paradise, from the onsite dog friendly facilities to the nearby Forest of Dean with its miles of footpaths, lakes and cycle paths (just a short drive away) . We are 1 mile from Lydney with its restaurants, shops, supermarkets, banks, parks, gyms, indoor pool. In the summer months there is also an outdoor pool. So many tourist attractions, sports and activities are within a 15 minute drive - miniature railway, arboretum, sculpture trail, castles, Tintern Abbey, Go Ape, Puzzlewood, Caves, Butterfly Zoo, Maze, Water Sports, Canoeing, Diving, Zip wire. This small holding is home to the Dodson Family and includes three holiday apartments, a campsite, showground and indoor events arena (The Barn and Marquee). Both The Indoor venue and show ground are available to hire and is used for events. Two night and long stays available upon request from Forest Oak Farm.

Ideally located

Nice little base camp for a weekend break. Well equipped, would recommend and stay again. Lots of walks near by, pet friendly. Site has a dog exercise pad which is fully enclosed. Lidl, co-op and Tesco near by.

Good location

Lots of things to do within 30 minute drive, perfect for lots of dog walks. Lots of pubs and cafes close by. Campsite was peaceful and has 2 off lead areas for dogs. The apartment was clean and comfortable although it did lack a few of the basic kitchen utensils.

This was the best dog friendly property we have stayed in. Great secure outdoor area and exercise fields for the four legged member of our family. Accommodation was clean, warm and comfortable with everything you could need. Lovely part of the country, we will visit again in warmer weather.

My son and our two dogs had such a great time. The cottage was very clean, the owner very pleasant and helpful. So convenient to so many different walks, our dogs had tge time of their lives. Would highly recommend. Thank you for making us welcome.

Beautiful views

We had a lovely stay in Lydney, our host Michelle was on hand for check-in and if needed throughout our stay. The chalet was comfortable and clean, very spacious and the views were stunning, plenty of space for our dog ( 2 designated fenced off areas for her to run around ) no WiFi but it wasn’t a major problem, would maybe put a small lamp in lounge area as lounge lights a bit bright for the evening, when your winding down. Overall was a lovely couple of days 😊😊

Weekend in FoD

Great place to stay - fab location for all activities we went to FoD bike park and local forest walks. Fantastic takeaway curry from The Bengal Balti we highly recommend. Everything was great - if i could mention one suggestion a bigger pan would be good in the kitchen as the one supplied was not big enough for 4 large pasta portion. Also we couldn't see where to put the recycling - sorry. We would definitely recommend this place to stay - there is no wifi but good 4g - Teens were happy with this.

Dog friendly holiday home

We loved it! So did our spaniel! Having read a very negative review which appeared just before we came, we were quite worried.......however our experience of Rosie Lea Cottage was very different, almost a parallel universe! The holiday home was spacious, well equipped , comfortable, clean, with an enclosed patio area with fabulous panoramic views of the countryside. We were blessed with lovely weather too. The site is extensive, beautiful countryside, a working farm, with a campsite and dog training facilities too. Enclosed dog exercise areas a brilliant idea, perfect for letting our deaf dog run safely free! Michelle was very pleasant and is obviously very proud of the family business, understandably so 👍🙂 We can’t wait to come back! Thanks, Nicky, Mick and Dave the dog 🐾🐾🐾

Lovely stay in one of the cottages

Very pleasant weekend away. Nice and quiet, with lots of space for dogs. Only issue was there is no WiFi here and couldn’t connect devices via phone. You can see the owners have and are spending money here for excellent on site facilities for campers and caravanners. Easy access to several walks and the forest.

Nice break

We found the property was clean and had all we needed for our weeks break, contact with the owner was easy. The area of the Forest of Dean is very nice and the forestry commission look after it well with easy access for people to enjoy. Plenty of nice places to eat that are dog friendly.

Spectacular views overlooking the valley. Surrounded by hills, fields and trees.

One of the most amazing short breaks we have had in the UK because of the location. So relaxing and peaceful and the grounds were beautiful to walk around with our dog. 2 secure fenced off dog exercise areas were brilliant. A few small lakes, waterfalls added to the tranquility. The cottage was well equipped and clean and a lovely fenced off patio with table and chairs. Michelle was very welcoming when we arrived. Great places to visit with only a short drive, including Symonds Yat and Chepstow . All in all a wonderful place to visit and stay. Can't wait to go back.

Wonderful place to stay and very good value, lovely and quiet out of season which suits us fine as we wanted quick access to the forest of dean for birdwatching, loved watching the wild boar at work at the bottom of the field at Dusk.

The Dodson family are a hard working and welcoming family. Michelle, Steve and Carole all live onsite in the Farmhouse with their much loved menagerie of dogs, cats, duck, chickens and ponies.

Why they chose this property

The Dodson Family brought this property as a run down small holding in desperate need of attention. It was essentially one big scrap heap, with many environmental enforcement notices against it. The site was very badly damaged and neglected - but the family saw through that and believed with hard work they could bring it back to its former glory. They have spent many years and hours breathing new life into this now stunning site. They are delighted to be able to share the fruits of their labour with you and show you what they have achieved!

The site is home to holiday apartments, a campsite, fishing lakes, a dog training school and an events venue - all dog friendly. So this is especially an ideal site if you are looking for a dog friendly place to stay.
