Renovated in June 2019, the house is a real haven ideally located in the heart of Chawton village and surrounding Hampshire. Farthings was built circa 1700 for the workers of the Squires big house, which is now the Jane Austen Library in the centre of Chawton. The writer's home, now a museum, is directly opposite the house and it's said that Austen family members stayed in Farthings when they ran out of room. They certainly smoked hams for Squire Knight's guests in the inglenook fireplace.

Excellent old cottage nearly opposite Jane Austen's house, very well equipped and warm. Excellent communications with host beforehand. Would thoroughly recommend.
This was a wonderful week in a darling cottage. This cottage had everything we needed and was a delight. It was in the perfect location to explore the area. Being opposite Jane Austen's house was the icing on the cake.
Very enjoyable week in this beautiful old cottage. Well equipped & comfortably furnished, felt like a home not a holiday venue.
Local pub few steps away, Jane Austen’s house over the road….we enjoyed watching 3 of her films in the evenings, box set thoughtfully provided by owner, Louise.
All in all, would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a holiday in this beautiful area of Hampshire.
This historic cottage is cozy and comfortable. The kitchen has everything you need and the bath is up to date. The beds are comfortable
For those with mobility issues, be aware of steep narrow stairs. Also ceilings are low. These are part of the cottage's character.
The hosts answered every question quickly and provided lots of information about the area. Nice pub and tea shop a few doors down.
We were lucky enough to stay at this cute cottage on our recent Jane Austen trip. I traveled with my two sisters-in-law, and we really loved this sweet cottage! The hosts were very good at explaining everything about the cottage, and the lockbox made entrance really easy. It was located right across the street from Jane Austen's cottage, and just a door down from a nice pub and a tea room. It also has easy access to get quickly on the highway for sight-seeing. The cottage was very comfortable for us. The front room was inviting, and had space to sit, visit, and watch TV. The kitchen has been updated and served us very well. There is a nice washing machine, but you will need to hang up your laundry on a drying rack, so plan ahead for that. The ceilings are quite low, so great for us ladies, but it would have been uncomfortable for our husbands. Upstairs, there are two bedrooms, which are outfitted well. The beds and pillows are decently comfortable. The bathroom is good, but the toilet is awful! Just be warned, we had to flush many times to even get paper to go down. Not fun for those middle of the night bathroom trips. The garden is also sweet, but the one day we could have made use of it, the gardeners were there all day working on it. It is really charming though. All in all, we're very happy we chose this cottage. Thank you for the great stay!
Very clean all the amenities and equipment you need for your stay however short or long.
Very easy and good communication with property owner who gave us all the information we needed without having to ask well beforehand so no hassle at all.
Great place to stay

My experience with Lou was truly lovely..she was really helpful and informative ..I took her advice and pop into pub for a half of Guinness..and if I had longer I would of done more .. next time I will be better my 1st holiday cottage..and I will return soon and I loved the quite and relaxing RR.. parking is good ..I really appreciate not being bothered because I was injoying the cottage and my experience / explore..the cottage is really cleen and tidy..and the the fresh flowers and cake and everything else..it was perfect I will remember it as a great memories of a great 2 days ..It was a really like a home I treated it as my own and i injoyed it..and I slept well and it was so amazing..Lou is fantastic I would consider her a fantastic friend and a great host of cottage..I feel happy I had the opportunity to stay there ..and ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐..I have stayed in 5 star hotels and this is just as good..so I would consider it the best cottage in area farvings is fantastic..
Farthings has all the character of a Victorian cottage but with the benefit of all necessary modern appliances and still retains the charm associated with a workers cottage. Loved the fireplace and enjoyed many an evening reading by the fire.
