About this property

Merrylocks Cottage

Charming, cosy terraced cottage in the centre of Bowness village, which has undergone a transformation where original slate floors have been exposed, open fire places restored and wood panelled cottage style doors displayed throughout .

The owners are not new to holiday letting and whilst they have enjoyed spending time in their Lake District cottage, they have been busy updating and redecorating much of it, as a result there is now a beautiful cosy cottage you would happily call home during your stay in the lakes.

This cosy cottage has undergone a recent refurbishment and now offers a lovely quiet location in the bustling village of Bowness and within easy walking distance of Lake Windermere. It affords guests a great base for a restful break at any time of the year.
A comfortable lounge with original lakeland slate floor, and two sofas where you can wrap yourselves around the warmth of the open fire and tune into the TV or simply chat late into the evening over a few drinks.

This then leads through to the kitchen area, which is well-equipped for cooking up a delicious meal for the whole family and getting together in the beautifully appointed, seperate dining room to the front of the cottage.

There are two well-presented bedrooms with ample lighting and storage and beautifully appointed bed linens and accessories. On this floor also is the house bathroom with shower over bath.

To the outside, an enclosed rear yard with seating area, where you can soak up the evening sun during the warmer months, with a glass of something chilled!

The village of Bowness has all you need for an easy self catering holiday with a varied selection of pubs, cafes and restaurants to choose from. There is also a well stocked Co-Op and Tesco Express close by and one mile away in the village of Windermere there is a small Sainsbury’s, larger supermarket at Booths and a butchers.

Plenty of art galleries and gift shops to wander around in and an ample supply of cafes and restaurants to suit all tastes and not forgetting plenty of local walks which can be started direct from the cottage.
Merrylocks Cottage is a cosy and characterful cottage and the ideal retreat for a relaxing break in the lakes.

Cosy House

Very easy to chat with host Tracy. House very conveniently located compared to Windermere Lake. Parking in street with permit parking a great way to leave the car to explore the area on buses and lake cruises. House wonderfully clean and tidy. Located close to shops and restaurants. Enjoyable quiet street.

PERFECT Location

In Bowness we were able to walk to everything: the pier to take a cruise to Lakeside, the jetty museum, The World of Beatrix Potter, the CO-OP for food supplies, excellent choices for restaurants, two enjoyable pubs, and hiking up Orrest Head to great views. It was nice to leave our car parked. Also took a day to drive up to Ullswater Lake, hike to the Aira Force waterfall and then enjoy a steamer boat ride to Pooley Bridge. Glad to have the parking permit or that could be a challenge.Merrylocks is central for adventures.

Cute Cottage

We had a great stay at this cottage in the Lake District. We took buses 555 and 599 daily to other towns in the area, and the cottage was conveniently located to everywhere we wanted to go. Very comfortable beds and bedding. Fantastic collection of cookware in the kitchen. We cooked in daily and had everything we needed to prepare family meals. Thank you for the welcome treats! That was such a thoughtful surprise!

Nice location but...

We arrived at the VRBO at 3:45, as the site indicated that check in was at a 4:00. I checked the VRBO app multiple times during the day to get instructions on how to enter. None were provided on the VRBO site. We were unable to reach the owner and had 2 neighbors graciously help us by allowing us to jump on their wifi, as the wifi in that area is poor. After a good 30+ minutes of waiting for a response and leaving several messages via VRBO, the neighbor across the street came to help us and informed us to look for a specific email and the info would be there. We are traveling for 22 days throughout England. Navigating accommodations, train schedules, not to mention never having been in that area, there is a lot of emails and things to manage. Why would an owner use a separate way of communicating with patrons if while booking on VRBO she was communicating with me? Why would I think that I'd get instructions from a completely separate email? That make no sense to me. We had 1 1/2 roll of toilet paper for 3 days with no backup. We asked for an 1 extra roll and were informed we'd have to get our own if needed more. Paper towel in kitchen had 4 small sheets left, no back up. Two smoke detectors went off at 5:30 a.m. one morning. No back up batteries. I own 5 houses that I personally rent out. They are fully furnished, all well appointed and I wouldn't dream of leaving my guest without any backup for a 3 night stay. That's simply not cool.

Just fabulous

We had a brilliant stay at merrylocks cottage, in a perfect location restaurants at the end of the road along with great pubs bars and shops all on your doorstep. The cottage itself is really lovely and extremely comfortable and immaculately clean everything you need for cooking, also they provide you with a parking permit which convenient as well. We both loved our stay and absolutely nothing bad to say at all! Just wonderful!!

Couples Getaway

Cottage was gorgeous, very homely. The only complaint I had was it was too hot in the bedrooms, a 13.5 tog was just way too warm for this time of the year! Other than that we had a fab time and Tracey, (who looks over the property) was always very helpful if you needed anything. Definitely will return to this cottage in the near future. Thanks

Beautiful location, beautiful property

Merrylocks was just perfect for our winter getaway in the Lakes - incredibly well located just a few minutes walk from shops and bars in Bowness and with all the amenities you could need in the house itself. Couldn’t have asked for more, will hopefully be back one day soon!
