About this property

Beautifully situated amidst rolling farmland

The ambiance of Bowhouse is beautifully captured in one of its five star reviews :-

"Lovely location with a homely feel
We arrived late at night and didn't really get to see the house until the following morning, when we were very pleasantly surprised by the charming location - horses coming up to chat over the garden walls - the wonderful views from almost every window, and the general homey-ness of the house.
It has clearly been a much loved home and remains a haven, with unexpected nooks, a warm, sun filled conservatory and lovely large open rooms. It was an absolute pleasure to spend a week there, big enough to accommodate our extended family and guests with ease, and a lovely entertaining space also. We enjoyed early morning in the conservatory just as much as late night chats, and the facilities overall entirely met our needs (definitely got value from the dishwasher too!). The children were delighted by a selection of interesting toys and games, and the adults tucked into a wonderfully random collection of books .It is a charming, tucked away location where there is a pervasive sense of peace and quiet which was a very much needed respite".
Bowhouse is a charming 300 year-old farmhouse set in beautiful Scottish countryside. An ideal family accommodation, it’s been tastefully modernised, yet still manages to retain its original character. The rooms are bright, well decorated with many homely touches and tasteful furnishing. All rooms, especially the sun lounge, offer wonderful panoramic views. The large stone walled garden is well maintained with lawns and shrubs and there is secure storage for sports equipment.

Accommodation comprises:

Ground Floor: Lounge with open fire, dining room, library, sun lounge, breakfast kitchen, utility room, bathroom with bidet and shower over bath. There is an electric cooker, oil-fired heating, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washer/dryer and microwave oven. Television, DVD, CD player and Wifi is also installed.

First Floor: One double and two twin bedrooms, spacious shower room.
Bed linen and towels are supplied to guests.

Bowhouse is a wonderful base for exploring the beautiful East Neuk of Fife, with its beaches and quaint fishing villages. There are plenty of golf courses too - St Andrews is about 25 miles away – and sports activities to enjoy. The farmhouse is within easy reach of Edinburgh, the Trossachs, and Stirling. Yet despite Bowhouse’s rural location, it’s less than three miles from the dual carriageway leading to the Scottish motorway system.

Cleanliness has always been a prime consideration with Bowhouse, and that is even more so in the days of covid 19. The house is meticulously cleaned by the local housekeeper between all visits, and the best practices are observed. The ratings given for cleanliness in the guests reviews speak for themselves, emphasising the excellent standard achieved.

Whether you’re looking for a sporting, cultural or relaxing holiday, Bowhouse can help make your stay in Scotland one to remember.

Lovely garden room, used for most meals, watching deer and hares in the fields around, and all the birds in the garden. Very peaceful.

Fantastic for a family get together

Bowhouse is a beautiful old farmhouse set in a stunning location, it has a lovely energy about it, the house itself is a gem, with lots of little extras, I am an avid reader and love old books so l was very pleased with the collection of books on hand, also a nice selection of games for the kids. The garden is very well maintained and the dogs loved it. All in all, we had a very nice break and would love to visit again sometime when the weather is warmer and we could enjoy the garden and surrounding area at its best.

All good. Just great to be set away from the noise of city living. Bowhouse Farm is very welcoming and comfortable. It had everything we needed for a 4 night break away. We would gladly book again to stay here, without a thought of doubt. Thank you for having us

Lovely secluded house

We had a lovely weekend in this property it had everything you could need also quiet and secluded. The house was nice and warm for our arrival which was lovely as it is winter time! Lots of information for travellers on things to see and do if so desired. Would definitely return to Bowhouse.

Fabulous location, tired property.

We had a lovely family holiday in a beautiful setting. The house is big and spacious but poorly maintained. The floors are very uneven. The upstairs shower didn’t drain away properly and downstairs shower was a spray. The sitting room furniture is uncomfortable, very old and very low making it difficult to rise from. We didn’t let any of this detract from having a great holiday but it would stop us renting again unless the property was upgraded.

Wonderful Property

I wish we had been able to spend more time at the property, but we were in Scotland due to an event, that we spent most of the 5 days there.... I would not hesitate to rebook this property, as everything that you would need in a home, when on holiday, is present there. There is buckets loads of room so you never feel "squashed in" like a lot of the newer properties that are up for renting... As soon as we arrived we were met with complimentary food and milk, which is a very nice touch, and very welcomed. It was very quiet at night, so you will never be disturbed by anything other than the occasional owl. The gardens around the house, are welcoming with more than enough room to get the barbeque out whilst the children entertain themselves, so if you do need somewhere quiet, very homely, enough space for more than 6 people, and not a bad price, pick here you won't be disappointed.... Cheers

Rural Getaway

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Bowhouse. The farmhouse is in a great location for exploring Fife and the surrounding areas. It is very rural and extremely quiet, literally the only things you can hear are the birds and the horses. The farmhouse has plenty of room for 6 guests and bags of character. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to get away from it all

Idyllic farmhouse stay

We rented this accommodation as we were attending training. The house was a perfect place to relax after a hard days learning. The house is a great size laid over 3 floors. The scenery is beautiful and my favourite feature is the open fire. There is plentiful supply of logs and lovely touches were orange, milk, butter and bread being left to greet us. We will definitely be back when we come to refresh our training! Thanks for the great hospitality : )

So comfortable!

As a family of 3 adults and 3 children we had a great time at Bowhouse. Very cosy and comfortable and so spacious! The owners have thought of everything from plenty of towels and cleaning products to games, books and some basic food items. The highlight was that the open fire was set and ready to light! 🔥 awesome!

Bowhouse experience

First impressions was 'wow' what a place, the views and the garden was great, especially for the dog, however, we had to be with her all the time, maybe some mesh or netting to cover the fence would be more secure bearing mind horses in the fields and the yard. More about the dog policy, it was not stated before we arrived about the restrictions for the dog within the property, it says Dog friendly, yet on the back of the kitchen door it says dogs are not allowed beyond the kitchen! I dont class this as dog friendly, I do not find it acceptable not to allow the dog at least into the living room, we therefore had to stay in the kitchen most of the time, as our dog is part of our family. You don't restrict children, whom can be more destructive and dirtier than a dog. Responsible dog owners keep an eye on their pet and do not allow them on other peoples furniture or upstairs when on holiday. Our dog never goes upstairs even at home. I understand that they can stratch furniture, we brought our own cover and dog bed. We were prepared for hoovering up any dog hair, just disappointed that a part of the family is relegated to the kitchen and she was upset too as could not understand why she was not allowed to join us. Provisions provided on arrival was exceptional, however, we did bring some of our own, so a mention that basic provisions are provided in the listing would have been helpful. The kitchen was very well stocked, the heating and electricity being provided was great. However, the hot tap in the kitchen was just a trickle, the landing light didn't work, we didn't call anyone because of our short stay. Double bed was very comfortable, we slept well, the bedding and towels were of good quality., we closed off all the other rooms. The wifi was good for our iphones but could not get my laptop to work on a mobile 4G network, it could not find any network in the area, yet at home, it is fine on a normal router. Train service from Kirkcaldy to Edinburgh was exceptional, free parking and straight to centre of the city! All in all, an enjoyable stay, just let down by the so called 'dog friendly' image, which is what drew us to stay at the property in the first place, dog friendly is our priority in choosing a property.

Excellent!!

Thoroughly enjoyed our weekend away. Malcolm and his team had thought of everything, even welcoming our dog. Beautiful house, beautiful garden, lovely area with plenty to see and do, spent hours walking on lovely beaches, especially lower Largo and St Andrews. The only minor issue that has nothing to with the owner is the road to the house…terrible potholes!!!!

Special place

An intriguing quirky house with interesting corners to explore inside and outside in the garden. It was October but I had a day sunbathing in the garden! We had meals in the dining room making use of the lovely crockery and kitchenware. There is even a piano and we were excited to learn that the famous Singing Kettle used to rehearse in this house! The master bedroom is just lovely and I felt I was sleeping in a castle. The bed very comfortable. The bath is great because it's long so even my husband could have a soak! The shower upstairs is super powerful. The house was so beautifully prepared for us and welcoming when we arrived. The heating from radiators just right in all the right places. The open fire is magnificent and we couldn't resist having one every night - sorry for using all the wood! We locked ourselves out one day and the lovely man at the stables was so helpful in phoning around so that he found the housekeeper who let us back in! Thank you so much for that! We don't live that far away and we live in a beautiful part of Scotland but it was nice to experience a different place and the countryside around the house was better than expected. We did a circular walk up to the farm and then down to the village and back round over the old railway up to the stables. We also climbed West Lomond which offers great views over central and East Scotland. Thank you for a lovely stay. We will recommend to family and I would hope to stay again. In fact I wish I owned Bowhouse!

October hols @ the Bowhouse

Lovely spacious cottage with a traditional feel, in a wonderful rural location but close to main routes. The cottage is surrounded by ponies which come to the fence to greet you as you walk along the track. Fantastic log burning fire in the living room makes for a cosy evening. Great place at a great price. ❤️

Family Break

Had a super family break in this wonderful cottage for 3 days. The cottage has everything you could possibly need, and more. The owner has the most charming property with a lovely mix of old and new styles, and has many lovely personal effects and decoration throughout. Wonderful views and garden, and so tranquil and relaxing with a cosy open fire in the lounge, and relaxing sunroom. Great position, as felt lovely and private, but only a short drive to many various activities and places of interest. Will be delighted to stay here again as soon as possible.

A house full of character with fantastic garden and surrounding area

Malcolm (the owner) is very attentive and it is clear how much passion he has for Bowhouse and for ensuring guests have a wonderful time. We were high users of broadband (accessed via a 4G Wi-fi) as we streamed an HD film each night of our 1 week stay. Malcolm couldn’t have done more to help us maintain access (there is a generous normal limit included within the rental which needs topping up if heavy usage - which is totally understandable). For those that like access to the internet, the area is also well served by a strong EE mobile signal. To be honest, internet access isn’t really the top priority when visiting a property with such a fantastic garden, wonderful views across the local countryside and an abundance of wildlife (horses, birds and hares are not hard to see here). The house is clearly a home as well as a rental property. It’s lovely to get an insight to Malcolm (and family) through the books that are liberally positioned throughout the house and other personal effects. The kitchen has been recently updated as has the upstairs shower room, however some parts of the property do reflect the history of the building. We enjoyed this and found the house to be very comfortable and easy to use. Finally the local area is well worth a mention. Bowhouse provides easy access to Edinburgh and all that Fife has to offer. We loved the beaches along the coast at Crail, the magnificent Forth bridges and of course Edinburgh. We also took in local walks at Loch Leven and Loch Ore (we loved the walk up Benarty Hill and the views from the top). In summary, we would would recommend Bowhouse as a wonderful base if visiting the area. We would have no hesitation booking again! Thanks to Malcolm for making us feel so welcome.

Home from home!

Excellent venue for a relaxed family get together. Loved the open fire and the comfy seating. The house was lovely and warm even in January in snow and excellent for the softy Irish family! Played board games, ate yummy food, burns night celebrations dancing and generally had a ‘ball’. Thank you!
