About this property

Double Ensuite Chapel Annex at The Oratory

The Chapel is divided into two areas: the upper mezzanine is a spacious double bedroom and the lower area a lounge and kitchenette.

The lounge area has a sofa which converts into two full size single beds. We have cots which can be put into The Chapel on request.

Optional sumptuous continental breakfast. This is put in your room the night before in order for you to enjoy at your leisure.
Bed & Continental Breakfast or Self Catering - its your choice which you book. Located in Princetown, we are wonderfully positioned for exploring Dartmoor as well as further afield into the rest of Devon and Cornwall.

When you stay at The Chapel, you have exclusive guest occupancy at The Oratory for the duration of your stay.

The Chapel sleeps up to four, and is accessed through its own private entrance, with the hall leading to the main split level room. The upper mezzanine area is a spacious double bedroom and the lower area a lounge/kitchenette in which the sofa can extend into two single beds. Also accessed from the hall is a large, light, airy bathroom with double-ended deep bath, separate shower and underfloor heating.

There are local maps and books in The Chapel if you need any help in planning your stay with us, as well as various novels if you wish to spend any time indoors. Extra beds/cots can be put in the room on request. Guests are welcome to use the garden, please note we do have a few covered small ponds, so we ask children to be accompanied. Dogs are welcome, and we have a special box of goodies to make any four-legged friends feel at home.

Princetown is ideally situated for walkers and cyclists. The town is overlooked by the North Hessary Tor and is close to Fox Tor Mires, said to be the inspiration for the Grimpen Mire in Sir Arthur Doyle's novel "The Hound of the Baskervilles". The Chapel is also within easy reach of various tourist attractions including the Dartmoor Miniature Pony Centre and Lydford Gorge. Many adventure activities are also available nearby including balloon flights, climbing, canoeing and caving. The lovely market town of Tavistock is 6 miles away.

Tranquil break away.

Another wonderful stay at the Oratory, on our arrival we we're greeted with a lovely warm welcome as returning guests, by Jeanette & her husband, 🤗. We had a glorious weekend of sunshine which only added to our enjoyable stay in Devon. We look forward to staying again soon as we found the Oratory a perfect base for exploring the Devonshire country side. 10/10.

A lovely stay!

What a lovely place we found the Oratory to be. We booked it as a "dog friendly" option, and as it was located in Princetown "the heart of Dartmoor" we didn't have to walk too far to the lovely open spaces and the Dartmoor ponies! The owners had left lots of maps/guides of the area, along with books and a few board games should the weather be unfavourable. The annexe itself was well set out, with a dining table which could easily seat 4 people, settee, and (as we had requested the cooking equipment) was self-contained. The bed was the comfiest we have ever slept in, and the bathroom was lovely - underfloor heating was well-received as our stay was in December! All in all, a lovely stay!

Great property for our short break

A great place to stay for a quiet break, walking on the moor etc. I did have difficulty contacting host via Vrbo, not the hosts fault.

Couldn't be more helpful

A warm and comfy space to relax in after a blustery Dartmoor walk. Host Jeanette couldn't be more helpful, dashing round to make up another bed when our plan changed at short notice. Easy access to Dartmoor and good food at the local pub. Great stay thanks.

My wife and I stayed 3 nights and wish we had booked a further 2 days.

The accommodation was great with parking just outside by the granite steps. The bed was very comfortable. Was only a short walk from the Prince of Wales for a meal. A great base to explore Dartmoor. We even ventured into Cornwall. Hope to stay at the Oratory again, we certainly recommend it.

Excellent priced spacious accommodation

We booked for 3 nights, 2 adults and 2 teenagers. They slept on a very good single and pull out mattress. The room was spacious even with 4 of us.

Ideal Spot

Great little find in Princetown. We visit Princetown regularly to see relatives and The Oratory self catering apartment is perfect for our family stay. The bathroom is particularly lovely and the sleeping facilities are good and comfortable for the four of us. Some may find the cooking equipment simple but have been fine for us on the occasions we have used the property.

Perfect Dartmoor break.

We loved the Oratory, gorgeous house in a great spot for walking the moors from the doorstep. Our room was very comfortable and clean with a lovely bathroom. The owners are very helpful and friendly. The breakfast food is delicious and plentiful. Both pubs are great for eating/drinks too. Thoroughly enjoyed it all.

Exceeded expectations

We had the quadruple room named the Chapel Annex for 2 nights to visit family in Tavistock. We were travelling with 2 teenagers & our small dog. We were made very welcome & the room was very spacious & well equipped so we could provide our own breakfast. The owners even did our washing up! Our sons had full sized single beds (a daybed & truckle beneath) & there was an additional sofa to watch TV. The bathroom was very luxurious with a roll top bath, separate cascade shower & under floor heating.

Lovely and modern place

We spend a few days at the oratory. Since there is no cocking place we had only breakfast in the apartment and then took a nice picknick with us. That was perfect. The dartmoor is beautiful. We had some nice walks, visited tavistock and had a wonderful day along the river in Bellever.

Relaxing, comfy and friendly

Amazing pre visit communication. On arrival, lovely comfy, clean room. Perfect hideaway from the dartmoor rain. Child and dog friendly. Amazing comfy bed, fantastic bath. Also, just a short stroll down to the pub for food and a drink so no worries about driving

Our second stay here so obviously we love it. Just as good as the first time, including the weather. We both had a brilliant time and so did the dog. We're all looking forward to another visit.
