About this property

The Coach House at Old Hall Country Breaks

A beautiful converted Coach House within the grounds of a stunning Grade II Listed West Norfolk thatched 16th Century residence. The Coach House at Old Hall combines the luxury of a hotel with all the comforts of home. We are close to King’s Lynn down a small country ‘No Through’ lane surrounded by farmland. The Coach House provides an open-plan sitting room, kitchen & shower room with a huge first floor bedroom. Farrow and ball used throughout. Netflix, fast internet and cable TV. Roses round the door and ample parking for your car make for a perfect stay.

Dog – friendly stay.

Bringing your dog? You don’t need to pack for your four-legged friend. The Coach House is dog-friendly for up to two dogs, and we provide a doggy welcome pack with cosy bed, blanket, dog bowls for food and water, treats and a toy.
Old Hall was built in 1553 (for the curious, at that time Edward VI was King – he was the son of Henry VIII and Jane Seymour and Old Hall was once home to lady-in-waiting to Lady Jane Grey – queen for 9 days). Set in six acres, Old Hall is grade 2 listed and an enchanting Tudor property.

The Old Hall offers two separate and self-contained holiday accommodations: The Coach House and the East Wing both provide separate, self-catering accommodations.

Old Hall is a property of immense character and charm: the thatched roof, a walled garden, lots of pretty corners in the beautiful garden in which to sit, or lie in the hammocks and relax, the stables, the gardens for your children or dog to play in, the quiet and privacy.

Inside, Old Hall is beautifully furnished in a grand style but is also very comfortable. Farrow and Ball paint has been used throughout to ensure a soft finish to the house. The East Wing has a large inglenook fireplace with a generous log burner, and a jacuzzi bath big enough for two. The Coach House is tastefully furnished and overlooks the horses' paddock.

Amenities include indoor and outdoor games, bicycles, home entertainment including cable TV and Netflix.

Our guests can experience a range of additional touches: private dining is available with a professional chef, afternoon tea served either in the garden or the drawing room, deluxe hampers for your stay.

A dream weekend away

The location was beautiful, all the additional touches and requests were completed with care and attention to detail. Their recommendations were spot on. It was honestly one of the best couple of days away we could have asked for. The chickens were a huge highlight! I could watch them, sipping wine in the sunshine all day! Thank you so much!

Wonderfully relaxing, peaceful environment with extremely comfortable accommodation.

Gil and Phil go the extra mile to ensure we are comfortable with every thing we need. They take the time to suggest places and activities that would interest us but are never intrusive. We love being able to explore the fields and spend time with the animals. Our dogs are made extremely welcome with beds, treats and toys. We’ve just enjoyed our 4th visit and will definitely be back to my most happy relaxing place.

Fantastic place to stay, would love to return!

Excellent hosts, made to feel very welcome and their recommendations (restaurants, cafes, etc.) were spot on. Possibly the most dog-friendly destination we've ever stayed. Location, grounds and accomodation were perfect for tranquility. Small touches and attention to detail (e.g. cake on arrival, the woodland walk) were wonderful additions. The goats.

We had the best time!

We arrived on our Wedding Anniversary. The sun was shining so once unpacked we headed straight in to the garden. Music playing and so many seating spots to choose from. We were offered ice for our gins but Gil actually came back with gin glasses with pepper pods, cucumber & ice and some lovely veg crisps to enjoy. He also took us in to the chicken hut which is the cleanest and poshest chicken hut I’ve ever seen. Our little boy loved them and I held one :) That was just the first 3hrs

A perfectly rendered idyl.

The moment you drive through the gates you get the feeling that detail is key - nothing is out of place. The eye roams from one amuse bouche to another: the rusty bicycle at the gate with pansies growing out of its basket - to the olde - worldy signpost pointing you in helpful directions. The tone is set. The rooms in the Coach House or the East Wing open their arms to welcome you. Fresh flowers, little handwritten notes - intimations of luxury are everywhere from lovely linen to fresh eggs!

Simply Superb

We stayed for 3 nights in the Coach House at Old Hall. The welcome we (and our dog) received was quite simply outstanding. Gil and Phillip were born to be hosts. They are charming, warm and friendly and wherever you look there was yet another example of their keen eye for detail and desire to give guests a truly extraordinary stay. Don't be fooled into thinking this is simply an up-market self-catering break. It leaves the rest standing. Book a stay, you won't be disappointed.

About the host

Hosted by Host

Host profile image
Old Hall is a Tudor manor house, built in 1553 and its character reflects its great age. The walls are thick, the beams are even older than the house (they came from sailing ships) and the place oozes charm and history.

Gil and Philip are very thoughtful hosts who give exceptional time and attention to their home and to meeting the needs of their guests. From sourcing and booking restaurants and trips, planning beach huts, picnics or afternoon tea for guests, or setting up games in the garden. Nothing is too much trouble for your hosts.

We like to ensure that our guests fully participate (if they want to) in the Old Hall experience by giving treats to the donkeys, collecting eggs from the hens, cycling (bikes provided) round the quiet country lanes or lazing in a hammock listening to the donkeys munch away at their pasture.
