About this property

Luxury Cottage in Criccieth with stunning sea views, close to town centre

Croeso! Welcome to Tirwyddan, which has recently been renovated and awarded a 5* rating by Visit Wales. Tirwyddan is set in a tranquil location near the golf course but is a mere 500 yards from the centre of the pretty, flower-filled town of Criccieth, a regular winner in Wales in Bloom. The house has stunning views of Criccieth Castle and the sea from most rooms.

Tirwyddan is one of 6 detached properties in a small cul-de-sac. It is in a lovely, sunny position with most of the rooms facing south and looking over the well-kept rear garden to Cardigan Bay beyond. The master bedroom boasts a stylish en-suite and has French doors leading to a balcony with a small table and chairs to help you make the most of the view of the castle and the coastline beyond – an amazing way to start the day whilst sipping a morning coffee!

The house offers a high degree of privacy. It is set back from the road and there is very little passing traffic. The most frequently heard sounds are birdsong and the noises of the sheep and hens in the fields behind the house. The atmosphere in our light-filled rooms is warm and welcoming. The house is ideal for families (including those with young children). Many of our visitors return year after year – and some come twice a year!

Well-served by local amenities, this lovely cottage is well placed for all of the fantastic activities and attractions that North Wales has to offer....or simply to relax and unwind in whilst taking in the wonderful views.

Fabulous

We had a great stay, lovely homely property. Host was really helpful with my questions about the area. Will be looking to stay again and other members of family in the group were keen for the details also.

Perfect!

We loved every second of our stay in Tirwyddan. The house is in a great position-just a 5 minute downhill walk into Criccieth (obviously uphill on the way back but if you need to catch your breath, just stop and marvel at the view) The house is spotlessly clean, toasty warm and has everything you could possibly need in the kitchen. The biggest wow is the spectacular view of the sea, mountains and castle but we also liked the "little things" like the DAB radio in the kitchen, the Bluetooth speaker in the lounge and the tumble dryer. Stuff that you have at home and would miss if you didn't have them! 😃 The location of the house is ideal for trips on the train from Criccieth station to Barmouth and Aberdovey and a short walk to the bus stop to Porthmadog for steam train rides on the Ffestiniog Railway. We actually ran out of days to fit everything in,so we booked again for next year before we'd even left!

Lovely cottage, beautiful views

Very well-kept and well-equipped house, really comfortable. Children's room not that suitable for older kids - my 13yo barely fitted in the bed!

Wonderful holiday

Lovely property in an excellent location. The views of the bay and Criccieth castle were stunning. The house was spacious and extremely well equipped with a lovely little garden for our granddaughter to play in. Would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to visit the area.

Beautiful cottage with spectacular views

What a beautiful cottage in such a lovely location. Myself and my husband stayed here for short break/getaway. We were quite lost in this beautiful cottage, which had amazing views. Sadly the weather wasn’t very kind to us, but that didn’t stop us from visiting the places we wanted to visit. The cottage has everything you could possibly need, spacious, clean, well equipped kitchen, and most importantly a good mattress on the bed. This cottage is perfect for a couple or a large family, I certainly wouldn’t hesitate on returning,

Beautiful setting and lovely house

What an amazing property. Kitchen and living room were excellent for a family. Plenty of space. Lovely views from the bedroom especially the master with balcony. Town was great, nice option of restaurants, cafes and a great deli shop. Close to beaches & Snowdonia. It honestly made for a very rememberable holiday in a beautiful part of the world.

Amazing vews

A beautiful house with lovely garden and patio area with incredible views of the sea and castle. We spent most of the week working and didnt really get to enjoy much of it in daylight but it was a lovely cosy and welcome return every day. The host was also very understanding and was able to change a few dates for us to be able to stay a little longer. I would highly recommend the house and i hope i can come back for an actual holiday next time. Thank you !

Tirwyddan 2023

We were all very happy with Tirwyddan. The master bedroom not only benefits from an en-suite toilet and shower but it also has a fantastic balcony with glorious views over the castle and bay. The twin and double bedrooms are comfortable and have the same beautiful views. The fourth bedroom has a bunk bed, which delighted my granddaughter. A travel cot, high chair and stair gate were also available. The family bathroom is on the landing and has toilet, shower and bath. The downstairs loo also has a shower, so plenty of bathing facilities! The large living room has a big telly, books and games and easy access to the outside terrace. The kitchen and dining area also have access to the terrace and BBQ. The kitchen had everything we needed - including a wine fridge! We were delighted to find that the property had a dishwasher, washing machine and tumble drier. There is room for 4 cars on the drive. We were given contact details for the housekeeper, which was reassuring in case we encountered any problems. The property owner, Jonathan, was always prompt, friendly and helpful when responding to our questions. Our whole party really enjoyed our stay at Tirwyddan and would love to be able to visit there again. Thank you.

Just Right For Us

A beautiful property in a quiet location, yet just 5 minutes walk downhill to the centre of Criccieth. Among our party were 3 grandkids, all under 11years, so there was plenty of room for them to play outside, front and back, without the worry of busy roads nearby. All of the rooms were nicely appointed and the highlight was the master bedroom with its own balcony and fabulous views of the Castle and around the coastline to Harlech and beyond. We are already thinking about returning in 2024.

Absolutely fabulous

We were most impressed with everything. It was spotlessly clean, extremely comfortable, very well equipped and ideally situated. If there was anything to complain about it would only be that we had to leave when our week was up!!!

Xmas & New Year

A spacious, comfortable and warm property in a great location. It is well equipped and provided us with everything we needed for a stress-free Xmas and New Year. We loved the peace and quiet and yet it is still within striking distance of all the facilities needed at this time of year.

Fun family stay

It was a lovely property in a great position with lovely views. Well equipped and plenty of space, only criticism would be the main bathroom shower. Several times the shower went cold mid shower, which was very frustrating and annoying.

Lovely house, lovely location

Lovely place to stay. A few teething issues with the property - one of which was resolved and the other didn’t impact us (leaking shower which may have been a problem if there had been more of us). Absolutely wonderful views from the house. Back garden slopes but the front garden is large and flattish. Road up to the house is narrow and quite steep but was fine for us and Criccieth was very accessible. In a quiet residential area so no need to worry about passing traffic. The only noise was the sheep! 😁 One tip - when going into the main road to Porthmadog go along Radcliffe Road.

About the host

Hosted by Jon Morgan

Host profile image
I grew up in Criccieth and although I now live elsewhere Criccieth is still very much in my heart. My wife and kids now love it as much as I do and we look forward to our trips back to the area to enjoy everything it has to offer, the fabulous scenery and to see old friends.

Why they chose this property

Tirwyddan has been in the family for over 20 years now. My parents bought the house after moving away from Criccieth for work because they loved the area so much. It had previously only had 1 owner so they totally renovated the property and then subsequently extended it. When they eventually decided to sell the property after settling in Cardiff I simply couldn't let it go, so my wife and I bought the house and put our own stamp on it some 6 years ago. For the 2022 season we will be updating the Kitchen and Utility room as well as replacing the balcony and redecorating because we like to keep the property fresh for our guests and our own enjoyment. We find it a very relaxing place to spend time and we have a number of guests who return annually who feel the same.

What makes this property unique

It's a wonderfully relaxing home to spend time in and all the main rooms have sea views as well as views of Criccieth Castle. From the bedrooms you are able to see along Cardigan Bay - especially from the balcony which serves the Master bedroom. Sitting on the balcony with a morning coffee is a real pleasure!

The house is a short stroll downhill to the town and the beach, so if you're staying local then you don't need a car, although the walk uphill back to the house will keep you fit! The town has a mini market, butchers, off license and a delicatessen as well as a host of cafes, restaurants and gift shops.

The rear garden is enclosed and the house also sits off a private road so it is very quiet and peaceful as well as being safe for young children. My kids (now teenagers) have been coming since they were babies and we have always found it a very easy house to manage with young children because the doors have high handles so it's easy to contain them!

There are plenty of attractions within a 30-minute drive of the house from the many wonderful beaches along the Lleyn Peninsula to attractions for younger children as well as a number of adventure activities that are now offered in the area such as Zipwires (longest and fastest in Europe), white water rafting and mountain biking to name but a few.
