About this property
Herdwick Cottage Ambleside
Welcome to Herdwick Cottage Ambleside!
A traditional 4* Victorian Lakeland stone cottage in a quiet corner in the heart of Ambleside town within the stunning English Lake District National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Beautifully refurbished, Herdwick Cottage is an award-winning 4*, 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom self-catering cottage for up to 5 people. Explore the stunning scenery and return to a cosy log burner fire, gorgeous kitchen and basement games room!
We are very proud to have won 'Most Family Friendly Contemporary Cottage' 2021 by SME, and most of all, to have a lovely 'family' of regular guests who return time and time.
The Lake District's stunning landscape has inspired poets and artists for generations. Famous for its lakes, mountains and forests, its cultural landscape was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017. Explore England's highest mountain, Scafell Pike, its deepest lake, Wast Water, or simply wander through some of the many fells, taking in the beauty and changes that each season brings. We are located just behind the famous 'Bridge House' Ambleside, in a quiet road with flat walking access to the village centre. Ambleside is the 5th most popular starting point for walkers in Britain and the village itself boasts a selection of restaurants, pubs, cinemas, museums and an indoor climbing wall as well as children's play park and excellent public transport links to explore the rest of the Lake District.
Please note we are a pet-free and smoke-free cottage.

About the host
Hosted by Sarah Strachan

We took over Herdwick Cottage in 2018 and have fully refurbished it to create a truly welcoming holiday 'home from home', whilst being sensitive to it's traditional and rather humble origins.
We fell in love with the Lakes after honeymooning in Grasmere over 25 years ago and have returned to fell walk and climb ever since. We feel very privileged to share our beautiful Lakeland cottage with new and seasoned visitors to this stunning part of the world and hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
