About this property

Peaceful relaxing cottage for 2 in stunning scenery beside Loch Lomond

Lui Cottage is set within the 18th century Lorn Mill, a traditional Scottish farm steading stunningly located in the heart of Loch Lomond's National Park. The property is tucked away down a wooded drive in a private country estate overlooking Loch Lomond with its beautiful islands and magnificent mountain backdrop - a truly unique location with unforgettable scenery.
The cottage offers guests the ideal retreat to relax and unwind. We have just redecorated throughout using gorgeous Farrow & Ball Pale Powder, oatcake-coloured carpets, wooden hall flooring and a completely new ensuite shower room.
Enter the cottage from a gravel path through your own front door into a hall with plenty of space for coats and boots. The double bedroom has a queen size bed, pretty country linen, red gingham curtains, bedside tables and lamps with the latest magazines + radio, dressing table with large mirror and spacious built-in wardrobe. The window looks out to the Mill's courtyard with roses and buddlea in the summer. The ensuite shower room has a power shower, underfloor heating, wash basin and WC. Warm fluffy towels hang on the heated rail. Toiletaries are provided. The kitchen and sitting room are open plan. The kitchen has an oven, hob, fridge/freezer and microwave with round table. The sitting area has two armchairs, sofa, coffee table, side tables with lamps, TV, DVD player, Blue Tooth speaker pod, films and board games. Free wi-fi is available. Original paintings and limited edition prints hang on the walls. Lui Cottage always has freshly picked flowers from the Mill's wonderful garden and welcome goodies awaiting guests. The cottage is centrally heated, warm and cosy with plenty of hot water.
Outside are tables and chairs - have breakfast in the warm morning sunshine listening to our ducks and geese playing on the Mill pond. Play tennis on the private court and enjoy a relaxing drink afterwards soaking up the stunning views of Loch Lomond. Wander round the Mill's beautiful garden or stroll down to the Loch for a picnic. Outstanding scenery, superb accommodation, relaxing days and cosy nights are why guests return again and again to Lui Cottage at the Lorn Mill. We look forward to welcoming you.

Peaceful Rural Setting close to Glasgow

Fantastic location and high standard accommodation. A very accessible location yet very rural and peaceful. Great walking and other activities close at hand with Ben Lomond a must. Our border collie Molly was welcome and enjoyed the daily walk down to the Loch side. A great place for a short or long stay.

We have just arrived home after staying at Lorn Mill Cottage for the second time. Lovely pubs and restaurants nearby that serve excellent food and central for good days out. Nothing is too much trouble for Clare she makes you very welcome..

Gem

A home from home with everything you need, comfortable sitting room, kitchen with all appliances, comfortable bed and a nice shower room. The rooms are very tastefully decorated and a drying room is available for damp/muddy boots after a walk. Talking of walking there are good walks from Lorn Mill and the wonderful views across Loch Lomond. Clare was a wonderful host and we will return. If you want tranquility on the the edge of some mountain scenery then look no further

Perfect

Had a fabulous 3 night stay in this lovely home in fantastic surroundings. Great walks in all directions straight from the doorstep with outstanding views. We visited Balloch which can be done as a short 5 min drive or a very nice walk taking around 90 mins. Also visited nearby Balmaha which again was only a short drive away. Great for golf as The Carrick is only a few minutes drive away. Claire and Gavin are great hosts and made us feel very welcome immediately. We would have no hesitation in returning to Lorn Mills next time we visit the area. Eddie, our dog also had a fab time. Thank you for a great stay.

Lorn Mill cottages

After a 3 hour drive we were delighted both to see the view of Loch Lomond and our place of residence for our weeks stay. The cottage was clean and well presented with all the facilities that we required,it was also in a central spot for all our travels up and around the Trossachs and Highlands.Claire and Gavin were the perfect hosts, knowing we could call upon them if ever the occasion arose..it never did!!!.The little treat package was a wonderful touch. We can recommend the Balloch Hotel for meals,we had a wonderful evening meal on our last night.Thankyou once again Claire,Gavin and not forgetting Lopez for our stay.Best wishes Brenda & Graham..

The perfect remote getaway

What can I possibly say about our stay that would accurately describe how wonderful it was? The cottage is in the most beautiful location. It's absolutely picturesque. It was one of the most comfortable places we've stayed on our trip. The bed was huge, and sooooo comfortable. The shower was a really nice size, and got nice and hot. It was pretty rainy, so we didn't take advantage, but there's also a tennis court that guests can use! Claire is an amazing host. She is easy to talk to, quick to respond, and very helpful! She pointed us to the super convenient public transport for our trip to Edinburgh (the railway!). In addition, she was just a super kind and generous host, and I cannot recommend staying here enough. If our travels bring us back to the area, we will absolutely stay here again.

Cosy, quiet cottage in beautiful location

Really lovely old stone cottages at the foot of loch lomond - as part of the directions Claire sent us she mentioned rounding the corner to a stunning view over the loch before descending down to the cottages and she was spot on! Claire was the perfect landlord - there to greet us on arrival, around for a friendly chat (and useful local recommendations!) when required, but otherwise left us to it. Cottage itself was well equipped and so so quiet inside thanks to the 3 foot thick stone walls. These did mean not a lot of natural light inside but you can get plenty of that outside gazing over the loch or on the numerous walks and activities available nearby. Location wise we found it the perfect place to use as a base to explore the surrounding area, and while small would recommend nearby Balmaha for its coffee shop and pub restaurant. It was a lovely retreat from the busy-ness of day to day life and we'd thoroughly recommend you to visit!

Tolle Lage, Apartment kaum Tageslicht

Danke.

Four nights spent in a beautiful, peaceful location. Cottage was clean, well equipped and so cosy to come back to after long days of walking and exploring the local area. Clare was friendly, welcoming and on hand if needed but not intrusive. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

Thumbs up for Lornmill from Belgium!

The cottage has everything you need. It was very cosy to come "home" to in the evening after a day of exploring Scotland. Once you step outside the cottage the view is stunning with the loch, mountains and meadows. Wildlife is not far away when you go hiking. Claire is helpful answering any questions you have and lets you have your privacy. We surely recommend Lornmill cottages!

Lovely cottage in great location

A really well equipped cottage with all the essentials plus more. Very comfortable for 2 with good access to all the local attractions. Claire was really welcoming and suggested some good things to do. We walked up Ben Lomond which was worth the 2.5 hour hike up to the top because the views were amazing. Recommend a boat trip on the loch from Balloch. Had a great lunch at Samphire in Inverary.

About the host

Hosted by Claire MacLellan

Host profile image
The MacLellan family have lived at The Lorn since 1989 and lovingly restored the old property to bring out its best whilst still retaining its tradition and charm. We hope to provide guests with the real flavour of staying in an old Scottish farmstead. We are a busy family and all enjoy making the most of our surroundings as much as we can: mountains, skiing, tennis, walking, water skiing, painting and photography.

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with The Lorn the minute we saw it - roses round the front door and such an overwhelming feel of how right it was for us.

What makes this property unique

The property is tucked away in a private country estate overlooking Loch Lomond and accessed down a wooded drive. You are met with the most stunning view of the Loch, its islands and the majestic Ben Lomond before your turn a bend in the road and see The Lorn. The unique view is so spellbinding and the property so charming, it provides guests with a blissful feeling of comfort and peace.
