About this property

Typical Tuscan house.Great view on Lucca.Private parking/garden.WIFI

Only 15 minutes from the city of Lucca.
The sea, with sandy beach, is distant only 30 minutes from the house. (Lido di Camaiore -Viareggio- Forte dei Marmi).
This charming farmhouse restored in 2012, was formerly a small cloister dating back to 1700. It is located in the middle of an olive tree grove dominating the valley and the city of Lucca, which lies only 11 km from here. The owner is an interior designer, this is why interiors are refurbished with care and attention to details, using original Tuscan furniture and aiming at the perfect ease of the guests. The days in Lucca will be particularly agreeable thanks to its many attractions and points of interest: the sightseeing of the town, its unique city walls, churches, squares, museums etc. For those who love the sea, in 30 minutes you can reach the sea-side resorts of Versilia, Viareggio, Forte dei Marmi - all renowned for their huge golden shores. For mountain lovers, in only 30 minutes you can be in the Garfagnana area and walk through its ancient villages. Take a chance to visit the cities of art and the most characteristic places of Tuscany (Pisa, Firenze, Siena, Cinque Terre) that are near to Lucca and easy to reach. In case some day you do not want to go anywhere, you can enjoy the impressive terrace, which is definitely the peculiarity of this house, offering the possibility to stay outside in complete relax. A magical place surrounded by nature where everything is like it used to be – only a few ancient houses deep in the stillness of the hills and an enchanting atmosphere due to the magnificent view, outstanding during the day and lovely by night.

Beautiful rural house with amazing views

Firstly, I have to say that the photos of the view do not do it justice. You can see Lucca from the terrace and no matter what time of day, it is stunning. I took photos of the same view every day! The house itself is comfortable, well equipped and is perfect for a family break. It has all the things you need for a comfortable stay without losing any of the character of a rural dwelling. There are three double rooms - the two upstairs have en-suite, and the downstairs one has easy access to a shower room and toilet. The house is rurally located, which means it is lovely and quiet - usually you can only hear the sounds of nature and the occasional sounds of human life still happening elsewhere. Lucca is a 15 minute drive away and there are plenty of places to park, eat, drink and explore. A few tips for travellers: - the road to the house is narrow and windy - if the car hire company give you a big car and you are not used to narrow roads, ask them for a smaller one - the house is nestled in the middle of an area of woodland, so you will need bug repellent - as you leave Torre onto the main road, in the opposite direction from Lucca, there is a lovely bakery which does fresh bred and pastries - you must visit!

A gem of a property

Located in a delightful location, with incredible views towards Lucca. The owner is charming and helpful and very attentive to any requests. His mode of helping you find the house is faultless. This IS certainly a property you would return to. Thank you Massimo for sharing this with us. David

Fantastic!

This place is just wonderful and Massimo is THE BEST host. The place doesn't have air conditioning, but don't let that put you off. We stayed there when it was unusually hot and it was still cool enough inside to sleep. The windows are all fitted with screens, so you can have the window without worry of insects getting in. The house has everything you can possibly need. Loved it. There's not a thing we would change!

Beautiful house, amazing location

Massimo was a wonderful host, super helpful, enabling us to enjoy our week in this lovely house. The property had everything that we needed, the location is quiet and chilled, but still within easy reach of Lucca, the coast, etc. The surroundings, topped-off by the view from the terrace are simply beautiful.

Stunning Hillside Retreat

A delightful property in the hills of Lucca away from the bustling crowds but still only a short distance away. The perfect retreat! The property is even better than the photos, we lived outdoors on the terrace with far reaching views. Enjoying the gentle Summer breezes. Massimo was a wonderful host, always available if required and provided fabulous recommendations for surrounding restaurants and attractions. We would not hesitate to recommend this charming traditional Tuscan villa. Massimo we can’t wait to return and enjoy your hospitality and the delights of your villa once again.

Lovely stay in idyllic location

Lovely week in an immaculate property with stunning views. The house was very clean and well equipped. We enjoyed the spectacular drive up to the property as mentioned in other reviews. I guess it depends on what you are used to, but we had no problems driving to the property in a normal/largish family car. Massimo could not have been more welcoming and was very generous with his time explaining about the history of his delightful property. A wonderful week and we shall be back!

Fantastic!

Massimo’s house is set in beautiful, hilly countryside, with a sobering drive up to it. The house has fantastic views overlooking Lucca from its covered terrace where we sat every evening despite the few days of rain. Massimo was very helpful and met us to take us where the house is . He also gave us information about the area and suggested a few places to visit. The house is tastefully decorated and to an excellent standard with all amenities necessary. We were particularly mesmerised by the fire flies in the evening. I would recommend this property and I’m sure we will be back. Thank you Massimo.

Lovely Tuscan Home

A beautiful house nestled in the Tuscan hills overlooking Lucca and a real home from home for our stay. Massimo was a welcoming and friendly host, and we really appreciated our welcome pack of bread, pasta & wine. He was so helpful - telling us best free place to park in Lucca, and arranging the chef to cook a special birthday dinner for us (highly recommended - Gabriele cooked us the most wonderful food!). it's well placed to discover the area - we visited Lucca, Cinque Terra, Viareggio and the fabulous Grotta del Vento caves, and a lovely local vineyard. Lucca is a great city with plenty to explore, or the terrace is a great spot to just sit & be & enjoy the great view! Thanks Massimo, and we hope to be back sometime!

Wonderful two month stay at Casa del Ministro!

We arrived in Lucca by train late on a Saturday afternoon to be met by our host Massimo who took us to the house in the hills, about a twenty minute drive from the old city walls. It was immediately obvious the house is accurately and honestly described on the website, everything was spotlessly clean. The house is set in an olive grove with fantastic panoramic views of the surrounding hills and valleys, and the city of Lucca in the distance. The three bedrooms are large and comfortable, two with ensuites and a separate bathroom on the ground floor. Massimo helped with our large amount of luggage and gave us a clear and thorough explanation of the appliances, heating, contents and layout of the property. Due to our late arrival he had offered to shop for us and our essential groceries were on the table along with a gift of bread, pasta and wine. On Monday Massimo drove us to a supermarket in the city where he guided us through the obvious differences between shopping in Australia and Italy. He spent the entire morning pointing out landmarks, good restaurants and shops, taking us to a bank, phone shop and finally helped us collect our hire car. Without his help the start of our stay would have been much more difficult. Massimo graciously insisted from the outset that we call him if there were any problems or needed help with anything. During our two month stay he organised a language teacher for us and a gym membership for our neice. He was interested in our family history research, helping numerous times with phone calls and translations. He visited and called us often to ensure we were comfortable and quote "living well" in his house. These contacts were always enjoyable and never intrusive. Massimo has two other properties, one next door to ours and one close to the old city walls, which he kindly invited us to view during our stay, both are of the same high standard as the house we rented. We are extremely grateful to Massimo for his thoughtfulness, kindness and his support throughout our stay. Massimo's house became a home away from home for our two month stay in Lucca!

Fabulous

We (4 widowed ladies) spent 9 nights and 10 days at the Villa situated between the Tuscan hills with the town of Lucca below us in the distance. The villa is beautifully furnished everything immaculate and so tastefully decorated. Massimo is a gem of a host. He met us at the train station and took us grocery shopping before we picked up our car and then drove us to the villa. He organized a chef for us for 2 evenings and we had the most wonderful meal. Paulo the chef was excellent and brought us course after course of the most delicious Tuscan dishes with a different wine for each course. Massimo thank you for a wonderful vacation, we will never forget it, hopefully we will return, next time with our respective families. I did the driving and managed the mountain road without any difficulty. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would. Sadie. Arlington Heights Illinois U.S.A

A great spot in the Tuscan hills

We had a wonderful stay in this house. Our host Massimo could not have been more helpful. He met us at an easily identified landmark, which was easy to find, to take us to the house for the first time (which made it very easy while you got used to it). He gave us great advice on where to park when going to Lucca, helped us organise the best way to see the Cinque Terre, and had excellent suggestions for local restaurants and supermarkets. He was readily available to answer any queries or questions during our stay. He clearly takes his role as a host very seriously. The house is in a stunning location with views down over Lucca. There were two sitting areas available to take full advantage of the view. The rest of the house was very well equipped even down to having a hair drier in each of the three bathrooms and a couple of English speaking TV news channels. Our only disappointment was that we only booked the house for a week rather than two weeks, something we will have to remember for our next visit. Thank you.

Amazing house in an amazing place!

Massimo was the perfect host and was very attentive to all our needs, nothing was too much trouble. The house was secluded and very relaxing, with stunning views- everything we were looking for. We had booked the chef and were not left disappointed, the food was perfect with plenty left over for a lovely lunch the next day. The house was very clean and had everything we required for a relaxing stay. We would not hesitate to recommend massimos lovely mountain retreat. Thank you massimo!

Wonderful!

We spent a lovely week in Tuscany. The house was absolutely perfect, tastefully furnished, very clean and comfortable. We loved the position on a hill slope facing the south, there was a plenty of sun on the terrace all day long so even in March we felt almost like it was summer - but so fresh! And the views were amazing! Massimo (the owner) was very friendly and helpful, thank you very much Massimo! We hope to be back.

Wonderful week near Lucca

We had a wonderful 1 week stay at Casa Ministro. The house was just what we wanted. It had everything what you need. The property was comfortable and very clean. The look at Lucca and surronding was beautiful. The roud up was wery winding and narrow but it was not problem for us. The owner Massimo was very friendly and extremely helpful host. He arranged for us the local chef and we had excelent home made dinner. We hope to return someday. Grazie mille Massimo.

Beautiful house in lovely location

We had a lovely weeks holiday in this beautiful Tuscan house in a lovely rural location. The antique decor meant the house was full of character and ensuite bathrooms in 2 of the bedrooms was very convenient. Unfortunately the weather in May was not that warm in the evenings but we enjoyed sitting on the terrace for breakfast with stunning views over the countryside to Lucca. The house is about 15-20 minutes drive from Lucca with a supermarket in a nearby village. Massimo kindly met us in Lucca on arrival so we could follow him to the house. The property was well equipped and a cot was provided for our 22 month old son. Our son enjoyed playing on the terrace and had a great time exploring ! The highlight of our trip though was a home cooked Italian meal by Carla and Laura. They provided the most beautiful meal and worked so hard. I would advise booking them earlier in the week as the food kept us going for days ! We did day trips to Lucca and to Barga in the mountains. I would recommend visiting Marina di vecchiano near Pisa which is a beautiful beach about 50 minutes drive away. Massimo recommended a fantastic and cheap pizza restaurant zio joes and also ristorante le meriviglie which was great value. All the family had a great holiday and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend The house as a place to stay if going to Lucca.

Top of the heap in Lucca

This villa, beautifully situated on a hill overlooking the town of Lucca, was an ideal place for our party of six. The rooms were ample, the cooking and washing facilities ideal, and the gardens delightful. Massimo, the owner, was very hospitable and responded to all our needs, and if you want the meal of a lifetime, ask for Carla and Laura to cook one for you!

Great Tuscany Experience

The one-week vacation we had at Massimo's place was a most memorable experience. The property was clean, spacious and comfortable for the five of us. Massimo was extremely friendly and helpful, like all Italians. The place has a great view of Lucca, especially the night scene of the distant scintillating lights of the town. Looking down Massimo's olive grove, there was a nightly firefly display that reminds one of an (almost) synchronous dance. Lucca, which was only a short drive away, was a major attraction to us. The town was had the the color and the smell of old Europe, only without the tourist mobs. There were also countless nice boutique shops to please the wives and as many wonderful and inexpensive restaurants to satiate the appetite for the slow Italian food. Cinque Terre was about one and a half hours away with a combination of driving (to La Spazia) and a train ride. Even though the paths connecting the towns were closed for the time of our trip, the towns themselves were most interesting and the ocean water most inviting in a warm day. Florence was one hours away to the east, but that was to be our next trip. In short, we highly recommend Massimo's place for any one who expects a full-filling and unforgettable Tuscany vacation.

A great week in Lucca

Casa del Ministro is a delightful retreat tucked away in the hills overlooking Lucca. During the day it is possible to see the old town with its towers and at night the lights of Lucca twinkle engagingly. The house has been renovated to a high standard though, where possible, in keeping with its ancient origins. There are three excellent showers, two as ensuites and one in a downstairs bathroom. There is also a Wi-Fi facility in the building. Massimo is extremely helpful and concerned about his guests. Thanks for that! There is a very pleasant patio facing south across the valley and it is possible to spend a really pleasant and relaxed time sitting there in the warmth of the Tuscany sunshine. It can rain in Tuscany as well and we had some of that! The approach to the house is via a narrow, ascending and twisting road. You need to be careful towards the end if you’re driving! We visited Florence for a day, driving to Scandicci and then taking the tram from there into Florence. The trams run till about midnight. It’s best not to try and drive into Florence – it’s much easier (and free) to park in the outskirts. The old town of Lucca is very interesting and worth strolling round. Again it’s best to park outside the old town which is enclosed by a wall. It’s good to walk round the town on the wall. There is a lot of free parking to the north west of the town. It is then a ten minute walk into the old section. Pisa is worth a visit. The tower leans even more than you expect! There are interesting traffic-free areas south of the river where there are lots of shops. Parking is in one of two park and ride places. We parked in the Via Pietrasantina Park-and-ride and if you prefer you can walk from there into the old part of Pisa (ten minutes, but a busy road to cross). In summary, we had a very pleasant week in Massimo’s house and would definitely recommend it.

Recommendation without reserve

A beautiful villa surpassed only by the views across Lucca and the Tuscan Hills. Massimo is an expert host rightly proud of his villa and the landscape it inhabits. We were met with a very warm welcome and some goodies to get us started, not least his own olive oil which is delicious! The villa is a great base to explore the region, La Spezia, Parma, Bologna, Florence, Follonica all easily reachable, although our favourite was Lucca at the bottom of the valley! I can recommend this wonderful villa and if you really want to spoil yourselves ask Massimo if Carla is willing to come and cook a Luccasian meal one evening (I advise skipping lunch to make room), absolutely delicious, Carla will effortlessly bring you course after course as you watch the lights of Lucca in the distance. We hope to return soon...

Just as I have imagined

a lovely, warm typical Tuscan home. The view from the terrace is spectacular. The house and surroundings are well kept. We loved being so close to Lucca as this is our favorite place in Tuscany. Massimo is a charming host. We were greeted with a bottle of wine, lovely bread, and homegrown olive oil. Very nice gesture. I can only recommend this house to anyone wanting to relax in Tuscany and still be near a wonderful city. We would stay there again.

Paradise in Tuscan Farmhouse

We were a family of four (children aged 5 and 3) and another couple and this house suited our needs perfectly. Rooms were spacious with comfortable beds and stunning views out of all windows. It was a peaceful cool haven to come home to after a day of sightseeing. The gardens were beautifully kept and a great space for children to explore safely. The house contained everything we needed (including coffee machine, washing machine, barbecue and dishwasher) and the whole house was very clean. The welcome gift on arrival of local delicacies made us feel very at home straight away. Massimo was the perfect host ensuring we had everything we needed and giving local information when asked. We only wished we could have stayed longer, we'll definitely be back!
